Watched. Credit to Jeethu Joseph for bringing the same magic in Tamil too. More than being a faithful remake, the film has few additional elements and that worked well for me.

Kamal looked on par with Lal for 3/4th of the film but he takes over in the last quarter. When the director had said in an interview that the Tamil version will be more emotional, I was not very happy. But it works really well.

And it is good to see a promising young talent like Ghibran groomed by Kamal. His music is a huge plus.

On the negatives, I didn't find many. Like the original, the story unfolds in a leisurely pace. Also, I didn't like Gauthami. She was dull compared to Meena.

The show I watched was in the midnight. But almost 80% of the hall was filled with family audience, something that's rare for midnight shows.

Saw the move and its really good even after watching the original version. kamal sir did a great job even after the same character was made memorable by lal sir. This film again proves why lal and kamal sir are the best complete actor in country. If you want to compare these actors lal sir is natural and essayed for malayalam audience and kamal sir put bit of overdose for tamil audience. Wish to see both again together in a movie after unnai pol oruvan. Jeethu Jose you are the luckiest director of this generation to bring best of these actors in recent times.

பொதுவாக வேறொரு மொழியில் வெற்றிபெற்ற படத்தை ரீமேக் செய்து வெற்றிபெறுவது எளிதான காரியமே. ஆனால், அது இங்கிருக்கும் ரசிகர்களுக்கு அதிகம் பரிட்சயம் இல்லாத கதையாகவும், ஆக்ஷன் அதிரடிப் படமாகவும் இருக்கும்பட்சத்தில்தான். ‘திருசியம்’ படத்தின் வெற்றி ஊரறிந்த விஷயம். அதிலும் இது ஒரு குடும்ப த்ரில்லர் கதை வேறு. ஒரு த்ரில்லர் கதையின் சுவாரஸ்ய முடிச்சுகள், அதை அவிழ்க்கும் விதங்கள் என அத்தனையும் தெரிந்த பின்பு அந்தப் படத்தை மீண்டும் ஒரு ரசிகனைப் பார்க்க வைப்பதென்பது மிகச் சவாலான காரியம். அந்த சவாலான காரியத்தை தன் அற்புதமான நடிப்பின் மூலம் கமலும், அருமையான இயக்கம் மூலம் ஜீத்து ஜோசப்பும் சாத்தியமாக்கியிருக்கிறார்கள்.

‘திருசியம்’ படத்தின் கதையில் எந்தவித சிறு மாற்றமும் செய்யாமல், அதேநேரம் தமிழ் ரசிகர்களின் ‘நேட்டிவிட்டி’க்குத் தகுந்தபடி இப்படத்தை மறுஉருவாக்கம் செய்திருக்கிறார் இயக்குனர் ஜீத்து ஜோசப். கமல் போன்ற ஒரு ஜாம்பவானை எப்படிப் பயன்படுத்த வேண்டுமென்பது அவருக்கு நிச்சயம் தெரிந்திருக்கும். மோகான்லாலை இயக்கியவராயிற்றே! ரொம்பவும் எளிமையான கதைக்களம், அதில் சிக்கலான சுவாரஸ்ய முடிச்சுகள், அதை சாமர்த்தியமாக கட்டவிழ்த்திருக்கும் விதம் என, ஒரு படத்தின் வெற்றிக்கு திரைக்கதைதான் ஹீரோ என்பதை ஆணித்தரமாக நிரூபித்திருக்கிறது இப்படம்.

மோகன்லாலின் கேரக்டரில் கமல் நடிக்கிறார் என்ற செய்தி வந்தபோது, அவரைத் தவிர வேறு யாரும் இந்த கேரக்டரை செய்ய முடியாது என பெரும்பாலானோரும், கமலால் மோகன்லால் அளவுக்கு இயல்பாக செய்ய முடியாது என இன்னொரு சாரரும் கருத்துக்களை தெரிவித்தனர். இவை எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் ‘பாபநாசம்’ படத்தின் க்ளைமேக்ஸ் காட்சியில் பதில் சொல்லியிருக்கிறார் உலகநாயகன். கமல் எனும் நடிகனை இப்படத்தில் எங்கு தேடினாலும் கிடைக்கமாட்டார். சுயம்புலிங்கம் மட்டுமே நம் மனதிற்குள் மண்டியிட்டு அமர்ந்திருக்கிறார். சல்யூட் கமல் ஜி!

கமலின் மனைவியாக கௌதமி சற்று வயதானவர்போல் தோன்றினாலும், தன் அனுபவ நடிப்பின் மூலம் அதை மறக்கடிக்கச் செய்துவிட்டார். அதேபோல் கமலின் மகள்களாக நடித்திருக்கும் நிவேதா தாமஸ், எஸ்தர் அனில், போலீஸ் கான்ஸ்டபிளாக வரும் கலாபவன் மணி, ஐஜியாக வரும் ஆஷா சரத், டீக்கடை ஓனர் எம்.எஸ.பாஸ்கர் என ஒவ்வொருவரும் அசத்தியிருக்கிறார்கள். குறிப்பாக ஐஜியின் கணவராக நடித்திருக்கும் ஆனந்த் மகாதேவன் நடிப்பில் கமலுக்கு நிகராக நின்று விளையாடியிருக்கிறார். க்ளைமேக்ஸில் கமலிடம் உரையாடும் அந்த ஒரே டேக் காட்சி ஒன்று போதும்.... வாழ்த்துக்கள் ஆனந்த் மகாதேவன்!

மொத்தத்தில்... 2 மணி நேரம் தியேட்டருக்குள் ரசிகனை அமர வைப்பதற்கே சினிமாக்காரர்கள் படாதபாடுபட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்கும் இன்றைய சூழ்நிலையில்... குத்துப்பாட்டு, வெட்டிச்சண்டை, கிளாமர் காட்சிகள், கிராபிக்ஸ் பூச்சுற்றல்கள் என எதுவுமே இல்லாமலும் முழுதாக 3 மணிநேரம் ரசிகனை நின்று நிதானமாக ரசிக்க வைக்க முடியும் என நிரூபித்திருக்கிறது ‘பாபநாசம்’. அதைச் செய்து காட்டியவர்கள் இரண்டு ஹீரோக்கள். ஒருவர் திரைக்கதை. இன்னொருவர் உலகநாயகன்!

Just returned from the theatre.

It started very slowly and for the first 30 minutes characters are established which seemed slow. Sorry, not used to these things in Tamil Movies. Then, the problem started and that induced the interest. Then, second half completely immersed in the movie. Connected with the film emotionally and felt pain when characters were beaten. I felt like seeing the things from a window in Police station. Climax was superb. (I have not seen the Drishyam).

Going again tomorrow to relive the experience.

Just finished watching Papanasam. Not much has been changed from Drishyam, content wise except for a few alterations in the dialogues and the structuring of certain scenes pertaining to the landscape of the story adn the characters involved . It succeeds as a remake yet retains its own identity, which is commendable. The climax is testimony to that. And a lot of credit must go to the director for understanding the need for change and incorporating it , writer Jeyamohan for penning the dialogues effectively and the actors for pulling it off.

I would deem them both equal with respect to this movie. If you are to compare both as actors, then Kamal is ahead. There are certain things Kamal can do on screen that Mohanlal can't.

About 40% of the theatre was full. A friend of mine didn't like the movie that much. Thought it was too long for comfort.

Jeethu Joseph is the one director who always comes up with a better product every single time. Papanasam is not an exception. It will make you glued to your seat just like the malayalam version even though you have already watched it. Suyambu Lingam character of Kamal is his career best. Lalettan excelled in role of Georgekutty but Kamal's Suyambu Lingam raised the bar even further. Jeethu had made few tweaks in script to add more comedy one-liners for Kamal in first half and improvised on Kamal's acquisitive businessman-farmer cum happily married husband role.

Interrogation scenes in second half received claps. Gautami, Asha Sarath and Nivedita did their roles well. Mani's character was more menacing than Shajon's version. Jeethu had also skipped a scene where protagonist calls home in their land line which was later questioned in social media as loophole in script. [Cycle odikal dialogue also skipped!!] Overall, Papanasam excels Drishyam with Kamal's extra ordinary portrayal of Suyambu Lingam character. Full marks to Kamal and Jeethu.
