Venki, i just loed his birthday speech! Though some parts i didnt get completely, your explanation helped me in those parts! thanks! But iam kind of bored of praising him on his interesting/intelligent/informative speech everytime! For a change i think he shud kinda dumb down his intelligence, and come down in that terms and give a diluted speech! THat will be lapped up by "kamal pesuniaa puriyaathu" type fellows! They may even say thats his best speech!

"Kamal hassan Endorses Beef Eating" - misleading headlines! All he says is let the choice be yours not Govt. !! These media .. I tell you.

Not true. He has admitted that he has eaten beef then! Now he does not because he is concerned about "health issues"! And that he did say, it is individual's choice!
This is a very big world!

No .. I still think you didnt get it. Him eating it or not does not matter and it does not constitute to endorsing something. He actually says he doesnt do it for health reasons.
"I endorse this!" means "I think this is a good thing, and so should you."

You can not take literal meaning of title every time.
* Has he eaten beef or not?
YOU have skipped this part conveniently!
* Is he supporting beef-eating or opposing?
My understanding is he is supporting..
That's all
This is a very big world!

If you are arguing that he is opposing for health reasons, then he should oppose eating goat, lamb and chicken and turkey too. Vegetarian - eating is giving better health than eating all these too!
This is a very big world!

thamiz,
I'll try and explain -
The essence of the whole thing is this:
'What is in my plate or your plate is our own business and not the Govt.'s"
That said, your questions ..
> Has he eaten beef or not?
Yes. So ? How does it matter in regards to people's liberty and freedom ? Again that is not endorsing eating beef ..
> Is he supporting beef-eating or opposing?
Neither. One's own choice.
> My understanding is he is supporting..
I believe that's not the case.

Let us agree to disagree on this "interpretation" and believe as our own interpretation is the "correct one" and move on!
This is a very big world!

No, I'm not arguing that he's opposing it either. He says clearly that if one decides to not consume beef due to medical science findings that its not good for health, then its ok but not by Govt.'s directive. He has an explanation for your next line as well if you watch his speech ... but again its is his rationalization ...
> Vegetarian - eating is giving better health than eating all these too!
Possibly .. but sorry, we need to take that debate somewhere else ..
