A long wait, but totally worth it

Twenty six years may seem a very long wait.

But that’s what it took for the movie buffs to witness the reunion of the iconic actor Kamal Haasan and T.K. Rajeev Kumar, a film-maker rated as one of the finest technicians in Mollywood.

Unsurprisingly, expectations are soaring high as the two join hands after the critically-acclaimed Chanakyan , their maiden joint venture released way back in 1989.

The film-maker’s revelation that it will be a family subject with a humorous take has only added to the excitement.

“The movie’s theme is socially relevant, too. It will be made in four languages–Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi,” Mr. Rajeev Kumar told The Hindu . “Screenplay is by Kamal Haasan. Noted actress Amala plays a crucial role in the movie. An actress from Bollywood may also be part of the main cast that includes noted actor Zarina Wahab,” said the director.

It’s not that the two didn’t have any brainstorming over a second film together since Chanakyan . They even planned a period film in between.

Then they discussed a few more subjects while Kamal was working in Papanasam , the Tamil remake of Drishyam .

Finally, they zeroed in on this theme.

“He had it in mind for long. It will be a performance-oriented movie,” Mr. Rajeevkumar said.

The shoot will begin in January. Shot entirely in the U.S., the film is expected to have a 50-day schedule.

The main locations will be New York and Georgia. It will be made under the banner of Raaj Kamal Films International.

The lead technicians would be from the U.S., said Mr. Rajeevkumar.

The star cast had already created the buzz in tinsel town. Kamal and Amala are pairing up after their popular hit Sathya directed by Suresh Krissna in 1988.

Zarina Wahab joins hands with the noted actor after her brief role in Vishwaroopam .

கமல் நடிப்பில் கடந்த மே மாதம் வெளியான படம் ‘உத்தம வில்லன்’. இப்படத்தை ரமேஷ் அரவிந்த் இயக்கியிருந்தார். இதில் கமலுடன் பூஜாகுமார், ஆண்ட்ரியா, பார்வதி, ஊர்வசி, நாசர், கே.விஸ்வநாத் உள்ளிட்ட பலர் நடித்திருந்தார்கள். மேலும் மறைந்த இயக்குனர் சிகரம் கே.பாலச்சந்தரும் இப்படத்தில் முக்கிய கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்திருந்தார்.



கமலும், லிங்குசாமியும் சேர்ந்து தயாரித்த இப்படத்திற்கு ஜிப்ரான் இசையமைத்திருந்தார். கமல் ஒரு நடிகனாகவே இதில் நடித்திருந்தார். வாழ்நாளை எண்ணி கொண்டிருக்கும் ஒரு பெரிய நடிகன், தன்னுடைய குருவுடன் இணைந்து மக்களுக்கு மறக்க முடியாத திரைப்படத்தை உருவாக்க நினைப்பதே படத்தின் கதை. இதில் கமலின் நடிப்பு மிகவும் பேசப்பட்டது.

தற்போது இப்படத்திற்கு லாஸ் ஏஞ்சல்ஸ் இண்டர்நேஷ்னல் திரைப்பட விழாவில் விருதுகளை வாங்கி குவித்துள்ளது. இதில் சிறந்த படம், சிறந்த நடிகர், சிறந்த இசை, சிறந்த பாடல், சிறந்த சவுண்ட் டிசைன் என ஐந்து விருதுகளை இப்படம் பெற்றுள்ளது. மேலும் ரஷ்யன் திரைப்பட விழாவிலும் சிறந்த இசைக்கான விருது இப்படத்திற்கு கிடைத்துள்ளது.

சர்வதேச திரைப்பட விழாக்களில் ‘உத்தமவில்லன்’ விருதுகளை வாங்கி குவித்திருப்பது படக்குழுவினரை சந்தோஷத்தில் ஆழ்த்தியுள்ளது.

Kamal Haasan on Paris attack

Its an abhorable pattern established by early crossborder terrorists like Illech Ramirez Sanchez alias Jackal. No amount of policing will deter these excess'.

At the peril of sounding naive and cliched I take this opportunity to evoke the Ahinsa spirit practiced and propounded by Gandhi ji. Especially to the European foreign policy makers I beseech, any populist martial reaction will only further the cause of those who have lost the sense of the world as a comunity. The west must take responsible steps from now on with great introspection as the world is watching. Now is the time for straight talk and honest action. Definitely not the time for dubioud double speakers. The world is ours and we must sieze it from the archaic and bloody hands of politicians who still seek solutions through war. It is so old fashioned to settle disputes by war anymore. The pinnacle of valour is Ahinsa. Lets see if the west has come of age.

Do not agree with KH here. The people involved and their larger organization are indoctrinated to only hate .. They kill anybody be it other religions/other sects of the same religion/women etc. Unfit to be a part of the modern civilized world. Yes, on this one, he is naive. He went through earlier himself with appeasement and we know what happened. You give more, they demand/take more from you. Doing what KH says will make their task only easier.
