Though Shanthi Nilayam was an adaptation of the hollywood entertainer 1965 The Sound of Music, the film also had a mixture of thrill elements like a Hitchkock film!! the best scene was he spine chilling introduction of a servant maid called Paappamma!! Then the fun elements of this movie are lost and we are taken to the edge of seat by the proceedings till the end. A life time movie for GG!! With Marcus Bartley's visual feasts and MSV's honey to ears type songs...particularly the introduction of SPB voice to GG with Iyarkaiyennum Ilaiya Kanni Kanchanaa!!

The climax of this movie itself is a classic lingering in the minds of viewers even today!
