Thank you so much for your kindness.
Eventhough this is not the right thread to place such a request, I go ahead and ask :
Since the month of May this year, I have been working on a new story. It’s an historical period drama - (so no myths, monsters and magic) - an imaginary tale during the British rule in India. Most of the materials I had consulted were narrated by foreign authors, but what I seek are documents (written or visual) recorded by an Indian.
Thought movies would be a best place to look for them.
The core of the story is almost written. The incidents happen inside the story world between Afghanistan and Calcutta. I am in the process of filling up the descriptions like how the streets looked like, the costumes, food habits, social gatherings etc. I revisited few of Satyajit Ray's films. I am aware that there are other materials done by our south Indian film makers. If you have any song sequence or strips from Kannada Films or any other films covering the pre-independence era, I would love to take a look at them. Plus, I love poetries. If you could direct me to few poets who described India under East India Company, that would be very helpful (of course with a translation, as I don't speak/follow Kannada language). Any material irrespective to a specific region or language is fine with me.
Thank you.

Hi,
Kannada film industry was in infancy stage during pre-independence period. There were 20 films released from 1930 to 1947 within the span of 17 years. Starting from ‘Sati Sulochana 1934’ (the very first talky film produced by
Shri R Nagendra Rao) to ‘Mahatma Kabir 1947’. Except the film Vasantha sena 1941, none of the other films available to view now. In this film also, out of 9 songs only 2 are available that too incomplete. 7 films were of social dramas and 13 of
mythological/historical stories. Many of them are remade after 1960s, with new actors at that time. Many webs are not aware of the fact, made available of the songs of new and old films together. Example : Hemareddi mallamma was originally made during 1945 and remade during 1974. Only 2 audio songs available sung by B Jayamma
of 1945 film. They are mixed with another 3 songs of 1974 film.
Hence, much information is not available in respect of pre-independence period kannada films.
