Naaz,
There are a few lines about R.Govardhanam's career written by Saravanan in VJ songs chronology, under another lovely song "Gangai Nadhi Oram". Govardhanam may have composed music for some Telugu and Kannada films as well.
I say "Yeah" to your PS.

I really have to give the past instalments of the chronology another reading. It will be one of the first things I resolve to do in the new year!
But, still, in the vein of forgetfulness (can be bliss at times!) has S covered "Isaiththuraiyil Enakku Kaadhal Vaegam"? What a master composition, and what a comprehensive rendition. The character (big guesses here, as I have not seen the film) seems to be caught in a whirlpool of diverse emotional currents. The song charts the swirl and gamut - from coy and coquettish, to wise and bold - lyrically, and yet it is the voice that enacts poetic conflicts of the heart. An amazing performance by MSV (the arrangements in this one are way ahead of their times - 70s film?) and VJ (the varied "mogam" shifts could make a study in itself!) dazzles, proving once again that she is in a league all her own.
A good comparative companion to Isaththuraiyil would be Lovely Evening (malayalam) from Chandanachchola.

Naaz,
"Isaiththuraiyil" has been covered in Chronology (1976). It is a song with VJ's unique stamps everywhere. How she chooses certain repeating parts of the song and modulates it beautifully and differently each time (mOgam, vEgam, inggE, etc). Just as the lyrics suggest, the entire song is a sudden outpour of emotions - vocally and compositionally. Another MSV-VJ magic.

Add Tharava Naan Tharava also to the list of songs that have to be heard again (and by all !)
I hope S covers VJ solo for VK (one of my cherished songs by him) Mazhaikkaala Megam Magarajan Vazhga. VJ mentioned this song first when I asked her about her collaboration with VK. I also insisted that she sing a few opening words of Madanolsavam Rathiyodu Thaan.
I am thinking of airing the interview on CiTR early in the new year. Would you be able to feature another recording (longer or shorter) of the file at the website? Or you could use the radio program, if that makes it easy for you to record and convert? Please let me know.

Naaz,
Let us know when the interview will air on CiTR. I can feature the interview at the website after the radio program. Please do mail me the recording (tape or CD). That will be the best way to reproduce.

I'll put in a request and see if I can swing a slot for 9th January. Upon confirmation, I'll announce it here. Will send you copies of the audio file once the holiday mail melee is done with.
