Thanks a lot dear 'tfmlover'...
For wonderful link of "Kungumappottin Mangalam" from 'Kudiyirundha Koil'.
Wonderful melody from the GREAT Mellisai Mannar MSV.
Who has written the lyric...?
Kannadasan...?
Valee...?
Na. Kamarasan..?
Pualmaippiththan...?
Alangudi Somu...?
NO....NO....
It is Thirumathi ROSHANARA BEGUM, the only Lady lyricist from Muslim community.

Never argue with a fool or he will drag you down to his level and beat you at it through sheer experience!

You are correct Saradha madam,
I saw her name in the title of Kudiyirudha Koyil.
Why she did not write further?. Any domination or threatening from the existing lyric writers at that time?. (same like from Latha Mangeshkar and Asha Boshle for Vani Jayaram at Bombay?)

Saradha Madam
People like you can share such interesting info on yesteryears & enlighten us.
Can u tell us further on who was instrumental in selecting that Roshanara Begum ?
and what other songs did she write afterwards ?
Indeed, KK is one of the best albums of MSV sir.

Kungumapottin mangalam ! Incomparable beauty . Only the start was a mild inspiration from a hindi song Tujena premapathu ...... but MSV had developed it further in his own inimitable style - MELODY .
The movie IMHO is one of the very best of MSV . So so so many wonderful songs spread through the movie Kudiyirundha kovil.
If someone can throw a light on how MGR extracted tunes from Mellisai Mannar for this movie ?
Normally when a movie has many songs, one or two might not be good ones but this is an exceptionally great movie for MSV .
Saradha Chechi, I have never heard that lyricist's name
Wonder why she didnt write more numbers ? !

Nadagamellam kanden ( Madurai Veeran )
NADAGAMELLAM KANDEN UNDHAN AADUM VIZIYILE.
MGR sings at Padmini and Padmini’s expressive eyes will roll in sync with the words !
What amazes me is the picturisation ! Some special effects are being seen in the song and one character getting super imposed while another , zipped is all innovation those days !
Only few movies of Makkal Thilagam showed him facing death in the end and this 1956 release Madurai veeran was one such.
The movie actually is a depiction of the legend on Madurai veeran , a warrior who served under Tiruchy and Pandya kingdom.
Due to wrong information about MV, the king punishes him to death through a severe punishment - Cut off both legs and hands.
Before he could realize the truth ( yes, the Goddess of Madurai screams at the king that he had committed the biggest mistake of his life ) , the unfortunate thing happens and MGR dies .
This is one of the most popular movies of MGR.
MGR had 2 pairs – Banumathy and Padmini
I believe, this Madurai veeran is being worshipped by many .
Music was by the great G.Ramanathan . 2 songs are real noteworthy . One is Eichu pizaikum thozile sari dhana enni parunga ( composed on the lines of Dheena karunakarane Nataraja , Neela kantane – of MKT ) both composed by GR only.
The second one and the most popular number is Nadagamellam kanden.
Villain ?? Its T.S. Balaiah . Yes. Those days, TSB was a big villain and later he moved over to comic characters and did extremely well.
One scene I cant control laughter is the one when TSB will remove his sword on seeing MGR. On seeing this action, MGR also will remove his sword. Immediately TSB will say . Indru naan viratham . Sandai poda mateen ! Saying this, he will move away.
A young and aggressive Veeran ( adopted son of a cobbler ) saves the princess of Tiruchi from being drowned and the resultant love makes him an obvious enemy to the top guns in the kingdom and TSB was one such.. However, the king , convinced soon , agrees for their wedding. The king also makes him , the leader of the army.
Under request from the then king of Madurai, MGR is being sent to put an end to the growing menace of a group of robbers headed by Sangili Karuppan. Taking the help of Padmini, the dance exponent of the Madurai kingdom , MGR manages to eliminate the robbers but in the process , enters into the bad books of the Madurai king for having won the heart of Padmini. An unjust king orders for the execution and thus the most unforeseen thing that can happen to a MGR movie happens.
Along with Madurai Veeran, both his lovers also die and reach heaven.
And who did the screen play and dialogues ?? Its Kavignar Kannadasan . D.Yoganand was the director.
Those days, the spontaneous choice for such roles naturally went to Makkal Thilagam only .
And the movie was not short of stars – Here is the huge list of very popular actors/ actress of that period - N.S.Krishnan, , T.S.Baliah, O.A.K.Thevar, MMA Chinnappa Thevar and T.K.Ramachandran Banumathy, Padmini , T.A.Mathuram, E.V.Saroja .
Both Banumathy and Padmini excel . MGR will look absolutely handsome .
One of the super hit movies of Puratchi thalaivar.
