Music4ever, I am "cut-pasting" from what I wrote in the VJ chronolgy, while dwelling on the lovely VJ solo' Thamizh vendhan Pandiyanin angam' from Ananda Bhairavi-1978.
Rangasami Ramanujam is the younger brother of Rangasami Parthasarathy (of Oriental Records fame). Before settling in the U.S. and embarking on a flourishing business in marketing music, Parthasarathy had composed memorable music for films like Magadhalanaattu Mary, Kalyana Mandapam, Avan Piththana, Paalmanam and Kalyana Oorvalam.
Ramanujam was born the last of five children and grew in a household where music was loved and nurtured. Unfortunately, he could not be as successful as his illustrious brother. Ananda Bhairavi was his first film, and he gave a brilliant account of himself. His next film was Annapparavai-1980. Annapparavai had that
spellbinding SPB solo-Ponnenbatho poovenbatho. MVs Gopala-yen sir became an instant hit. SJs Aadi padhinettu was another catchy number.
Ramanujams next film was the MGC Sukumar- Vanithasri starrer Aval Oru Kavariman, which doesnt seem to have been released. The film had some good songs like Pallavai naan paada(VJ) and Poonthendral kaatraaga poonjolai vandaaga(PS, Jolly Abraham?). Another stillborn film for which Ramanujam wasted his efforts
was Puththampudhunayagan. I have heard that in the aftermath of MGRs demise, Ramanujam brought out a cassette on the Puratchi Thalaivar, which did brisk business. Ramanujam has several devotional albums to his credit.
All the songs in Ananda Bhairavi are truly memorable- Umayavaley Mariyamma, varam tharuvaai Mariyamma in the great S Varalakshmis brigha-laden tenor is an aural treat. And while Sirithaai- andha sirippil oru mogam is an all-time favourite SPB-PS delight, Kodi kodi ennam adhu kondu vandha sondham is a breezy TMS-PS duet.

Janakan pon maanae is from Pennin Vaazhkkai, not Oru Pennin Kathai.
Moham vandhu mutham ketkkum raathiri is definitely a JC-PS duet. I think it is from Perumai, not Nermai.
Moham ennum ragam paadum is from Ezhaikkum Kaalam Varum. Not sure abt. the MD, perhaps V Kumar.
Poonkodiyae Poonkodiyae is a great SPB-SJ duet from School Master.
Megamae thoodhaaga vaa is a lovely SPB-PS duet from Kannan Oru Kaikkuzhandhai
Mohana Punnagai oorvalamae- class act by KJY-Uravu Solla Oruvan
Naaz- I know you are a perfectionist, but addressing us in alphabetical order is carrying it too far : )))))))

Saravanan....I am hoping that u did a decent job at the office today........
And thanks to you and Rebby for that lyrics and the class write up on Ramanujam.
BTW I had the very same memories particularly on Radio Ceylon. Right from 7:00 AM it used to be a treat, starting with Pongum Poompunal....Saravanan gnabakam irukka????? Some of the fantasic morning songs included Saptaswaram Punnagaiyil Kandaen(SPB/VJ from Nadagame Ulagam), Vaa Ponmayile(SPB from Poondalir)....the list is endless. I have associated morning with these songs!!!!! One more song which I had previously posted on this thread but couldnt get the film name was the classic
Engey Unnai Kandaal Looda Nenjil kondattam(SPB/SJ)....Konjam film name sollunga.Would luv to hear this song ....
Some of the KJY songs which I have permenantly associated with Ceylon Radio are:
Gangai Nadhi Oram Raman Nadandaan(KJY/VJ Film??)&
Eriyile Oru Kashmir Roja
There used to be the fantasic Sunday Spl programs...peru marandupochu..compered by K S Rajah... a top ten song list...I still remember the Sippi Irukkudu song being No 1 for weeks no end!!!!!!
I am now lost in that mist of time.......and as u put it right why at all did we grow up????????There now I hear the faint strain of SJ and malaysia singing..
Malargalile Aaradhanai
Maalai neram..............

Nadagame ulagam! Ah, memories! This was the 1st film I saw, dragged along with a bunch of protesting kids to see the hulk of K R Vijaya doing serious damage to our car's hood (one of our cars had gone 'shooting' to Ooty, and to go in the same car to the theatre was someone's warped notion of social status) in a dance sequence. Just for a nanosecond appearance of our crusty white ambassador..
As you can see, my initiation into the world of cinema was anything but memorable. Worse was to follow - 'aattukkara alamelu', 'varuvan vadivelan', 'annan oru koyil', 'benz vasu'... Sensing all this was turning me senile and movie-phobic and that I deserved a better introduction to cinema, my uncle took me to see 'Elippathayam' on a 1st day show at Quilon that had me sprinting at the sight of him for several months since.
Sorry folks for the intrusive digression, you're doing a wonderful job bringing back some cherished memories... keep it flowing..
