Vazhndhaal Unnodu is a beautiful song. Simple and sublime at the same time. MSV and VJ also gave us "Naan Padikkonde Iruppaen" (first version) which was along similar lines. Meaningful lyrics and expressive singing. Thanks for reminding me!

I have a bit different opinion on "naan paadi konde iruppen" and "Vazhndhaal unnodu".
The "Sirai" song, was in very good of the heroine Lakshmi and she has been enjoying every day in her life with her partner Prasanna.
Whereas Menaka (Savithri) was so unlucky to get married to an old man with whom... what kind of life she can enjoy? But she still accepts that life and this song comes out with a bit virakthi but somehow accept and live upto her commitment.
If you again listen to the Savithri song, you will see the difference. And we are so fortunate to listen to that kind of portray of expressions in that song.

I agree wtih you. The situations in both films were entirely different as you point out.
I was only pointing out "expressive" singing in both the solos. Vazhndhal and Naan Padikkonde are both meaningful songs, with minimal orchestration, and both depend on the singer to "emote". It was this "emotion" in the rendition which I was emphasising. Not the film or the situation.
Yes, MSV-VJ team gave us many good solos and memorable songs. I can add my voice to the "fortunate" chorus - we are lucky to have been TFM listeners during the best period!

I dunno how many of you remember the mind blowing PS solo number from an unreleased film Panchami MD : IR
'Udhaya kaalame
Nanaintha megame
Mozhiyin kadhavu thirandhadhu
vizhiyil vidiyal pularnthadhu'. I can still hear PS's reverberating laughter in that great song.

Naaz,
engey ungal naazanjali?
How about this song naaz... "chandira pirai paarthen thozhi sandhippu nigazhndhadhadi..." a great VJ song in a happy mood with ghazal shades.. Is it from "Kizhakkum merkkum sandhikkindrana"?
I have heard many songs in this style sung by PS too like "paithiyame konjan nillu vaithitayidam pOi sollu", "Ranga rangaiaah engey ponaalum"...
Nalla thaaLam pottu rasikkalam

One song for you, my choice: (more in a few hours)
Engengo Sila Manigal
Ingeyum Oru Manidhan
Ulagil Idhu Thanippadhai
Unnmai Ida Mariyadhai
Uyarndha Idhaththil Pirandha Ullangal
PS-SPB-VJ. Is it from Perum Pughazum or Sonnadhai Seiven, or wrong on both counts?

I saw Perum Pugazhum, which did not have this trio song. So, I guess it should be from Sonnadhai seiven, Naaz.
Yes Await that "more"
