Karthik,
Your experiences are so interesting. Expecting more.
Mohan,
Thirudan was a Sujatha Cine arts movie. Released on 10.10.1969 in between Deiva Magan and Sivandha Man(n). In chennai it was released a week later due to non availability of theatre. As usual a remake. It was a 100 day movie.
NT would have played a role of a thief and he would reform himself after marriage and a child. But circumstancs would force him to do robbery again as the gang (to which he belonged earlier) would black mail him. It is long time since I saw it last and the two songs I remember immediately are
1.பழனியப்பன் பழனியம்மாவா மாறி போன மை டியர் ராமா
2. கோட்டை மதில் மேல ஒரு வெள்ளை பூனை
In the second song (a dance sequence with Vijayalalitha to do a robbery of a necklace in a hotel), NT would so stylish. A scene worth watching repeatedly. Unfortunately DVD is also yet to come, I believe. Same way with Thangai and En Thambi (all Balaji movies)
Regards

saradha_sn..great post !
The above line should be made a template for users of this thread.
One small addition to a dialogue you quoted.
நான் வளர்த்த பையனாச்சே. இன்னைக்கு அவன் ஜெயிக்கிறான்னு தெரிஞ்சதும் எனக்கு ஏன் பொறாமை.....
grudge... ஜெயிச்சா ஜெயிச்சுட்டு போகட்டுமே".
Maybe it is just one word. But I really like the way he chooses to use that word. IMO 'poRAmai' is actually a little inappropriate word here. Can't even imagine someone like Rajinikanth admitting to poRAmai, even in quasi-soliloquy.
Jealously would mean he wants what Kannan has. No. Not at all.
It is about the resentment he feels for Kannan's growth at his expense. 'Grudge' is just perfect.
And the way he says it...you will feel what he is trying to say. It will even sound like the introspective moment when you get to see him soften up...the only time in the whole film. And in no time he has his defence up as you have beautifully quoted.

Hello IH,
'நீதி' படத்தைப் பற்றி எழுதியிருப்பது நான்.
அவர் 'தியாகம்' படம் ரிலீஸ் ஆனபோது நடந்த சம்பவங்கள் பற்றி சொல்லியிருக்கிறார்.
இரண்டையும் ஒன்றாக படித்ததால் கொஞ்சம் குழம்பிட்டீங்க்ளா?.

Dear Sarada mam, Good write-up on Gowravam & Needhi.
Dear Murali sir, tks for the info abt Thirudan.
Saturday saw Panam in Megha TV (NT's 2nd film) & Ponnoonjal in DVD. Nothing interesting abt Panam, NT had a small part to play except for the climax where he recites a lengthy dialogue.
In her write-up, Sarada mam has already brought out the best parts in Ponnoojal. I liked the film. The star cast was good and NT was very casual. It cud hv been more enjoyable had it been made in color.

Murali Sir ,saradha madam,
Need a clarification from you!
A person known to me argueing that sivantha maN is a failure commercially and Sridhar lost heavily finacially ,that is why he went to MGR for Urimaikural ..How far it is true ?How did Sivanthaman do in Box office?

Dear Joe,
I had mentioned earlier about this. Sivandha MaN was not a BO failure. Because Sridhar released it directly (Chitralaya ) throughout TN, the returns took some time to come back. But it was a 100 day movie in multi centres.
Very recently had access to a book which lists the no of days Sivandha MaN ran, the no of shows it was House Full, the collections it had got in Chennai, Madurai, Kovai, Salem, Tiruchy, Nellai, Nagerkoil, etc and definitely it is a hit which made profits for Sridhar. Would try to reproduce a copy here.
Coming to the next question, Sridhar did not start UK after Sivandha MaN. Instead he started Hero -72 with NT in 1972 which later came out as Vaira Nenjam. UK was started in 1973-74 much after Sivandha MaN.
If we go further, let me tell you that Sridhar did Avalukkendru Or(r) Manam(BO failure), Uthharavindri Ulle Vaa (success), Alaigal (Failure) after SM and before UK. As for as I know more than Sridhar wanting to do UK, it was a mutual tie up when MGR asked Sridhar to get the rights of "Dasara Pulludu" (Telugu) which was remade as UK in Tamil.
