Jack in his characteristically humorous casual self. But you can see he seems to be absolutely thrilled inside. Despite its obvious flaws, the actors cherish the academy.
The best has to be Jeremy irons for "Reversal of fortune". He pretty much exposed the "compensation mechanism" of the oscars. He slyly thanks Cronenberg, he says "to those who understand, thank you Cronenberg". For the uninitiated, Irons is absolutely terrific in "Dead ringers", and to my mind, one of the essential films for acting perfection, and subtleties he brings out in a double role. Also, for what its worth, Schroeder's "Reversal of fortune" is lovely, loved it so much that I saw it twice back to back. I liked the taste of it, the mood, and pretty much everything about it.

A layman's question :
Why is Cannes award considered much worthier than the Academy awards?.

Taare Zameen Par is India's entry to the Oscar's this year. Since the movie has an universal theme, good selection I would say. Proper lobbying would fetch us another nomination

As far as I know, the subtitles weren't great. If that would have been a little better(the songs mainly..I know its complicated, but still)I think it has an edge.Which are the other nominees?

I guess you saw some pirated version. The DVD released just about a month back :P and yes there are way too many songs that slow down the pace in TZP and the climax wasnt *great* either.
Mumbai meri jaan, Rock on, Jodha Akbar and a couple of Marati movies were considered I guess. Not sure why Kasaravalli's Gulabi Express was not considered. Rediff gave 5/5 for this, first time ever!!!!

i think cannes festival hosts the international competition whereas in aascar....adachiii...oscar hosts just an american competition with an award for international movies as a custom...
