Rajni to team up with Shankar again?
    By Ambili [February 1, 2011]

Looks like our Superstar Rajinikanth is on a signing spree. Sources close to the actor reveal that after completing Rana, Rajni is likely to team up with director Shankar again for the third time. The proposed project will be produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin under his home banner Red Giants Movies.

Meanwhile, Rajni's Rana is likely to go on floors in March and Bollywood sensation Deepika Padukone will be the heroine. Rajni will be seen in a triple role and A.R. Rahman will compose music for this magnum opus. The cinematographer would be Ratnavelu and the special effects will be handled by Rajni’s daughter Soundarya. Rana will be made simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

Not sure if this has been posted before.

The director Baz Luhrmann notes (in 2005)

“I had come to the music of A. R. Rahman through the emotional and haunting score of Bombay and the wit and celebration of Lagaan. But the more of AR's music I encountered the more I was to be amazed at the sheer diversity of styles: from swinging brass bands to triumphant anthems; from joyous pop to West-End musicals. Whatever the style, A. R. Rahman's music always possesses a profound sense of humanity and spirit, qualities that inspire me the most."

Baz Luhrmann is the director of films such as Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge! and Australia.

    Top 40 composer countdown

Every few years Scott Bettencourt of FilmScoreMonthly compiles a list of top composers based on the projects they get and how much they're in demand. Take it for what it is worth.

ARR is in at #18 moving up from #25 in 2009.

Is 2010, the year of A. R. Rahman atleast for tamil film industry?

He started off with Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, followed it up with the awesome Raavanan and finished off with Endhiran.

    What do you guys think?

He re-established himself as the numero uno Music Directory in tamil. His albums were popular and commercially successful.

It is a shame that Mani did NOT make a movie to effectively showcase the magnificient music of Raavan/Raavanan.
ARR's music is like wine, it gets better with age. I personally did not like some of the Raavan songs but I love them now
