It's not about tastes. Kannada films are not welcome in Karnataka itself, if you go by number of hits. How many Kannada films* you can confidently recommend to your non-Tamil friends?
* - recent films, not from 80s.

Have seen Mungaru Male among this and to be honest, I wondered how it ran for a whole year in PVR. It's a decent film, but not that great to have that kind of adulation. Anyway, this discussion is going nowhere. Will stop here. Thanks for the recommendations. Will try watching them.

Aren't yajamana and gulaabi taljies tamil remakes?
Dilb, Kannada cinema has to look inwards and figure how they reached this low from Karnad, Kasaravalli and Nag. No use blaming tamil industry. Don't think tamil industry has stopped other lang films from competing. That only happened in Karna and Kerala.
FYI, from Lumiere's time to now, Telugu industry has deeper pockets than Tamil and look where they are - still unable to go past tamil in standards despite much more capacity for bells and whistles. Blaming others is easy but the solution is to look inward.
How is the Marathi industry making quality films despite being the lesser cousin in the same city where global behemoth Bollywood rules the roost? Surely they have much more to complain being muscled out of their OWN city by another industry? Still they survive and flourish - how?
