Usually, a whole bunch of gems from 70s and 80s, I ignore when surfing channels or in the playlist. Because I can play them from the head whenever I need down to the last note and parallel instruments, there never was a need to pay attention when they are playing. It so happened I watched this song yesterday in passing. And as I slowly paused to take in the sights and sounds, the whole magic seeped through again. And the feeling was as fresh as decades ago.

As the magical humming from Janaki(pAbapAbapAbaPabappAaa) culminates into the opening lines, you expect as she completes the humming to get into the song(now that you know it inside out). And therein lies a magical interval where He adds a brief passage of flourish and then Malaysia goes Aagaya Gangai. I realised that I have always missed that interval while playing it in the mind. And in realising that, accidentally I stumbled upon the additional magic of that particular phrase, which we would have normally ignored. It provides the link between the female's almost (orgasmic- forgive the family-unfriendly word) end to the humming, and Rajinikanth pausing to take in the moment and then starting off the opening lines. Genius unparalleled.

'pAda vA un pAdalai' (nAn pAdum pAdal) on loop during drive to work this AM. (Though it's unsafe to drive with this song)

Still, the dosage was not enough and I had a high-volume-blast of the same in parking lot as well

What a celebration of a song!

I would like to highlight one of my fav actor Karthik's movie , Solla Tudikuthu Manasu,
Karthik is such hero who was blessed enough to get most number of hit songs in most of his combination with IR,
Frm 80s hits, Alaigal Oivathillai,up to 90s hits like Kizhakku Vaasal,Kathiruka Neramillai,Nanthavana Theru,
Now back to STM (Solla Tudikuthu Manasu), Poove sempoove being the most famous pick, My Fav is Enathu Vizhi Vazhi Mele, such an endearing easy-going
rendered with such sweetness by SJ & Jeyachandran, the beginning beat of the song, the preludes, and the konjum singing by SJ, what a mesmerising song...
STM being the 1st movie for Mano in Tamil (Thenmozhi),quote me if I'm wrong, which doesnt leave much love for the song,at least for me,
and the chart buster of those days Poove Sempoove, I think probably this is the only decent song ever picturised Radha ravi (clad in seriously wrong color-coordinated suits) through out his TF career..haha..
And the equally sweet female version of Poove by Sunandha, not much talked about though,. I cant help wondering what happened to the actor who acted in this movie with Karthik, his name was Dileep..and he acted a number of movies
those days, especially Visu movies,I still remember him for his distinctive voice and slang. IR's rendition of Vaaya katti vayathe katti for Dileep in this movie, another IR rustic voice special, and wonder what happened to Singer Sunandha. She just vanished from the cine world
The heroine of the movie Priya is seen in mother/MIL characters in serials..
