This song from Ajanthaa is on the playlist for the past 2 days and all I have done in the while is to just press the "replay" button.
It is a duet and who knew Raaja's voice would sound so apt with Shreya Ghosal's voice.
This is a beautiful tribute to RDB's "Roop tera masthaana". The erotica element is in the backing synth counter punches
to the lead singer voices. The accoustic guitar sets up the mood wonderfully. The humming layer enhances the mood.
Two elements need special mention.
First one is phonic - the synth passage (it is structured circularly) that repeats in the pallavi - is so conceived that one
conjures up the image of a cloth caught rotating in the washing machine drum or alternatively - two people caught in a room
in private (hum tum ek kamre main bandh ho
).
The second one is lyrics .
They sway like two flowers shivering in rain - the use of irattaikkiLavi (இரட்டைக்கிளவி - பனித்துளி பனித்துளி வந்து, for example)
reinforce the "closed space" image.
Also the pallavi lines are too good
தேடி வந்தேன் ஓஹோ
நதியின் கால்களோடு
It nicely completes the image of confluence with passion filled to the brim.
However everything is done with in a "PG-1" limit . Some how I feel "jalabulajans" after listening to this song, hence
addition to this thread..
Gulma gulma gulfaame...
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.

Super pick Jai. Yaarum thodaatha is my favortie song in Ajantha. IR & Shreya's humming are out of this world and that's what I love most in this song.

Starting with 'munagal' (similar to Sivarathiri song in MMKR) and watch how it takes a different turn after that. The tabla which was playing in pallavi stops during interludes. Observe how tabla takes over when charanam starts, and that elongation! I have heard the string instruments or wind instruments mimicing the vocals, but not tabla. Again the munagals at the end of charanam. The beauty is while they do all these munagals, everything is in pitch/sruti, in rhythm and in control. We can even hear the screaming and kissing. The timing is very precise they cannot overdo it. If they overdo this, it will kill the mood of the song and the whole song. This is where Raja scores with his precise composition.

Are there are any better playback singing pairs in this planet?

V_S, Odante Vinade is an awesome number! Nice observations and writeup!
What amazing interludes to be sandwiched in an absolute pulp of a song! IR is the definitive master of this act – giving what the audience wants while still subtly infusing his stamp on it.
And of course, IR+SPB+SJ = one soul, three forms!

Nice writeup V_S. Infact when this movie was released this song did not get much airplay. "Kanyakumari" and "Balpam Patti" ruled the air waves. This song was a late discovery for me. Lovely song indeed.

good that you specified "air waves". because the movie was watched and was made a super hit, not for Venkatesh or for Ilaiyaraaja, but for other reasons
