Disco King - Isai Paadum Thendral
Well, I chanced upon this song sometime back and kinda got hooked to its catchiness – nothing standout in the orchestration, but the tune is a nice and simple sing-along one.
Now, I have no bloody idea about this movie, its cast or this song’s picturization. While the video could be a good comic relief, I somehow find the singing in this song absolutely rib-tickling! This song has SPB+SJ written all over it, would’ve been quite a riot. But instead, we have chammathu kodams KJY and VJ, who kinda turn it into an ameidhi oorvalam, for such is the inhibition I find in their singing (in this song), especially VJ’s (check out the falsettos and the Pomeranian-puppy-bark like sounds in the charanams
). Its like as if a docile couple of middle-school teachers were forced to sing a romantic duet in their wedding nalangu ceremony and guy nervously shot off into a SPB+SJ disco song and the girl meekly followed him.

KV,
Super
Listening to 'uthama puthiri naanu' from 'Guru Sishyan'. Got a tape which has Guru Sishyan and Puthu Paatu. Wonderful songs in both the films. Was driving back from Chennai and played this tape in a loop multiple times. I haven't heard this song earlier. Swarnalatha is superb and what a flow to the song.

KV,

You've kindled my interest to listen to this song (once I reach home, considering my workplace safety)!

'bhavani varugira' from Ponnar Shankar. It just shows how far Raja has moved ahead of us !!! What a mix of technology and folk. Added to it, the twisting and turning tune. And added to it Shreya's voice. (Though she is best in 'malarvillile') What a knockout song and all I keep hearing on FM channels are the generic stuff thrown out by every other music director nowadays. Beyond doubt 'Ponnar Shankar' is a knockout album, notwithstanding that it knocks out only the Raja fan

There are some exceptions too, like my 5 year old, who likes the P-S ones.
Normally, she wants me to change the CD to one of "her brother's CDs" as soon as we get into the car (means, ingilipeesu).
With this, she does not allow me to FF / skip

Interestingly, it's me who wants to jump to the madai thiRandhu / Edho mOham / pAda vA / sangeetha mEgam in the end of the CD, skipping P-S to my comfort zone

Honey soaked Chitra voice this morning, 'EdhEdhO eNNam vaLarththEn' of punnagai mannan. KSC was perhaps at her best when singing for this album
'edhu vandha pOthum, indha anbu pO/O/O/thum' is so sweet and enjoyable!
Give me any day such tabla / bass guitar / chords combo rhythm and lead guitar interludes! The first interlude never fails to amaze me, the slow paced guitar marvel - what a song!

Listening to two lovely songs from Moonampakkam.
- what a breezy yet smooth flowing tune. Beautiful flute prelude. Love the rendition of KSC and MGSreekumar.
- as soulful as it can get. The picturization is touching and poignant. Who is the singer of this song? Haven't heard any other song of this singer.
