Qerida,
Some of the Malayalam songs bring a tear to my eyes just by their sheer beauty, especially songs like 'Swasathin Thalam', 'swapnangal', 'thamarakili paadunnu' and the songs of 'Poomukhapadiyile Ninneyum Kaathu'. (BTW, have you heard the two songs of PMPNK? If not do hear. Here are the links:
(Konji Karayalle. Amazing, amazing melody)
(Poonkathinodum)
Beware: Picturization is at 'Ninaivellam Nithya' level!!! )

This has been kind of a given in IR forums for more than a decade.
Just to contrast such, we ran a thread called "appreciating good picturisation of great songs" with a lot of contribution from Usha chEchi, saradha_sn & R Balaji for months. (In the earlier avatar of hub it ran to 100 pages before disappearing all of a sudden - and it couldn't be recovered...I had the privilege of starting that thread with 'kuzhaloodhum kaNNanukku').

The prelude glides me along the galaxy of the milky"moon"way
with all those string ensemble and the celestial sounding bells -
"nila kayum neram saranam" .
Even with ugly age rearing its head now and then, Janaki does a splendid job.
Her sangadhi when she sings
"minnal neidha selai meni meedhu aada" is noteworthy
"kangaL moodi naan thoonga thingaL vandhu thaalaattum
kaalai neramAnAle gangai vandhu neerAttum" simple yet poetic lines to
enhance the appeal.
Tabla and guitar punch in unison creating a nice rythm throughout and
what a great tune flow during the charanams!!!

I have no idea about the picturization or situation of this composition.
I don't need the visual to enjoy this composition's குஷி, ஜாலி,fun mood , இளையராஜா induces with பாலா.
But thanks to Urudhimozhi director for this nice situation for இளையராஜா to entertain us.

Poonkaathinodum from PMNK is such a beautiful song, it cast a spell around me and I had it in loop for a long time. I think it's the tune, KJY's rendition and most of all the mood portrayed in the song. IR's Malayalam songs, even though a late discovery for me, somehow stay very close to the heart. This is with me not understanding one bit of the meaning that the lyrics convey. Thanks Suresh for the links to the Malayalam songs that you sent earlier.

You are most welcome skr. Please also listen to other songs as well in the film with the links provided. All songs by SPB (duets) are truly amazing.
