I haven't heard the Telugu twin version yet but the same feeling comes to be when I hear the Telugu version of 'varadhu vandha nayakan'. SPB compared to Arunmozhi. No contest there. Coming back to 'poonthaLirAda', the heroine (another newcomer like the directors, hero) Shanthi Krishna, went on to become popular in Malayalam. She got married to a Malayalam actor (divorced and her ex is no more alive) and retired gracefully. Though she didn't have much to do in Thamizh afterwards, was a nice fit for PP.

I think the authenticity of the movie, song situations / scenes etc had something to with the upbringing of Pratap Pothen in a similar boarding school and I feel he had a lot of inputs to Bharati-Vasu...
