Kamal's own non-Indian mentor/guru, Brando, read off these cue cards/screen. Nothing wrong in that, let's hope she's able to carry it well. Able to express/articulate/stress the words better. This needs proper coaching from the AD.

It was sheer laziness on Brando's part. But forgivable for his immense (no pun bro) talent. Mediocre case ellam research, acting/language coach use pannurathu nallathu.

By the way, watched Indhiran Chandiran over the weekend, and found an anomaly (is that the right word?).

Last time when I watched it, it was College-u Degree-yum song that was featured in flashback, with that lazy dancing.

However, the one I watched this time, had some sort of classical dance. Only dance, no song. It's not the original telugu version mind you, it's the Tamizh one. But where the heck is College-u song? Anyone?

Kamal Haasan playing a cameo as a "fake lawyer" in "Thillu Mullu" climax... Effortlessly superb acting, I say. He is a natural in timing his comedy.

alone at home yesterday, so took the opportunity to revisit Jappanil KalyanarAman for the purpose of writing RetroReview.....but I....just....can't....do....it.....

Plus Points:
Kamal/Kalyanam, very funny (allegation that Kamal excelled in comedy only after Apoorva Sahotharargal be damned. He was already funny in the original Kalyanaraman). Raman was just as a bore as the original.
Music. Lovely, lovely. Especially AppappA, a Jazz masterpiece
The fights. No, really. There's something special about the 80s faux martial arts fights, especially Kamal's Jackie Chan inspired one. Always be special to me.
VKR. He's becoming more and more awesome...

Negative.
The entire bloody movie. Shouldn't have existed. And the boy, I wish they had changed the story, have him die horrible death and the brothers team up to revenge, as if jr deserves it.
The fish outta water comedy, ewww.....it was cringeworthy then, and worst now.

revisited Kalaignan today..

looks like kamal obviously had agreed to do this for sivaji blims....imo the begining of the movie clearly shows his non-commital...but as the movie progresses he starts improvising and remains sincere to the role - but the damage has already been done by then...

not that teh movie had a great screenplay or a story and to blame kamal for letting it down..but for me this movie makes it to the list of his umt,vv,singaravelan-ss
raja wasnt that great either -karthikraja had joined hands with him for a few tracks n bgm swell.

btw - production managers job shud have been a lot easier those days...watta template for allocating budget -

the movie's plot was simple. konjam comedy and popular heroines potrunthaa, padam hit aagi irukkum. I liked it to some extent.

Enthan nenjil was too good, but 2 songs, un repairable damage! Eadakku madakkaana sarakku & another song. the other 2 songs good.

VV, Singaravelan et all cannot be compared with this. They were bang on target audience.

Back then I hated how Dil bar JaanE became more popular than these songs. Overall it is good only, but Mano sir is there.

Kamal's acting is pretty ordinary in many parts in Kalaignan appo therila...sameebaththula pArthappO therinch.

எடக்குமடக்கு, கலைஞன் கட்டுக்காவல், இதெல்லாம் மும்பை எக்ஸ்ப்ரெஸ் மாதிரி. ரசிகர்களுக்கு மட்டுமே பிடிக்கும். அது கூட ஒரு சிலருக்குத்தான். I was voicing for a common audience in previous post.

எந்தன் நெஞ்சில் சூப்பர் ஹிட், தனியே எடுத்து வெச்சிடலாம். மத்த பாடல்கள் கொக்கரக்கோ & தில் பரி ஜானே எல்லாம் கேக்க மட்டுமில்லை, பார்க்கவும் நைஸ் தான்!

ஏற்கனவே சொன்னதுபோல் காமெடி, ஹீரோயின் எல்லாம் கொஞ்சம், பட்டி டிங்கரிங் பார்த்திருந்தால் படம் ஓடியிருக்கும். கலைஞன் - கொலைஞன் என விகடனில் விமர்சனம் போட்டானுவ நானெல்லாம் தினத்தந்தி விளம்பரத்தில் "கலைஞன்" என்ற பேரை மட்டும் வெட்டி அலமாரிக்குள் ஒட்டியவன். இப்பவும் இருக்கும்
