I honestly hope IR doesnt have anything to do with this movie especially when it involves Shankar. If the director were different than IR would be apt choice since he's one of the best if not best.

Rajni, Shanker and AVM, a mega tie-up
S.R. Ashok Kumar
CHENNAI: Superstar Rajnikant has signed up for his next movie.
He will be working under the AVM banner. Filmmaker Shanker is to direct the movie, which will be 60-year-old AVM's 168th venture.
It will be Rajnikant's 154th movie, his ninth with the house of AVM and his first project with Shanker.
The yet-to-be named film is being jointly produced by M. Saravanan and M.S. Guhan. Incidentally, it is also Shanker's ninth directorial venture, a fact that Rajnikant did not miss and apparently expressed to Shanker the hope that the number nine would prove lucky for both of them.
Three months after the release of the blockbuster Chandramukhi, there has been intense speculation on the superstar's next film.
There were reports that some producers were keen on signing up the film icon and there were guesses in the media that he had already made up his mind.
On Friday, the cat was let out of the bag.
AVM Productions, which has made 166 films, announced last month that its 167th movie would have Ajith in the lead.
Reports indicate that Shanker is busy writing the screenplay for the movie.
The rest of the cast and technicians is being finalised.

If Rajni wants IR, IR will be obliged to accept (there is a clear change in IR's attitude recently).
If Rajni insists, Shankar will let him take the lead, he has nothing to lose.
Looks like neither Rajni nor Shankar nor AVM know who it is going to be and they don't seem to have worried about it as much as in this forum.
The script will decide if its going to be ARR or IR. Others will grab it if it comes their way.
If it is not going to be IR or ARR, then I'd rather prefer it was somebody new (I wouldn't mind KR, he deserves a break). It is time TFM found someone who would change the sound and feel of current music trend, if not this movie, let it be the next movie, but it has to be soon rather than later. Am bored of TFM.

My choices of MDs would be
ARR - Simply coz of the big banner, big director, big star
HJ - Shankar would prefer him, even Rajini might go for him
YSR - He is pretty good with the younger generation but for people like kamal and Rajini.. That would be a big test for him
Deva gave mindblowing music for batshah, annamalai etc.., Actualy music was on of the main strengths to those movies.. but him working with Shankar.. nah! never..
IR, rajini might prefer, even AVM, but shankar.. nah!
So, ultimately its gonna be the No.1 MD of TFM right now, ARR 8)
