Wonderful songs in Siva, thanks for the pick App. Remember watching this film in Ganga-Yamuna-Kaveri (Karpagam) complex in 100ft Rd, Coimbatore during my college days. Even when we got updates about the film before watching it, still we went for Rajini and Raja, mainly because of my neighbor's influence during my school days. Those days we never worried about how the film would be, just two three basic criteria were needed; Music, hero, heroine, comedy. Nevertheless, every song is worth preserving. Beautiful feeling to hum these songs. Iru Vizhiyin is my pick slightly ahead of Adi Vaanmathi, Ada MaappiLai and VeLLikizhamai. I remember recording this song first in my cassette followed by Adi vaanmathi.

"The film grossed $3 million at the box office" - How do people "collect" such rare statistics?

That's a news to me. As far as I know, it was not a even a hit, saying it as a 'blockbuster' and did $3million collection is really surprising. I don't know.

Siva, a film I actually liked and Plum will testify that I got weird taste. I've had the opportunity to watch the original, of course, Rajini is funnier but the original was better in quality...if such thing is possible.
Songs are all lovely. App, hope you don't miss the song I posted on Facebook when I got to know that my wife is pregnant. By the way, did I congratulate you on the 300th post? If not, here's another one, edutukOngga

Grouch - ofcourse you've got weird taste. Siva...eeeks. If not for Raja, it will be in the dustbins of history by now. Rajini went overboard with remaking Amitji movies - this is a good testimony to the fact. Ameer John - the most garib john among KB's assistants in terms of talent - was patronized by his Guru alone. One more movie Unnai Cholli kutramillai with Karthik-Sithara followed. Can't remember any SPB hit from this but Kjy-KSc's sorgathin vaasarpadi and one more by Usha Uthup were popular songs. Think it was KB again who took the risk of producing a movie with John as director. KB famously refused to produce another disciple's vehicle, eventually made by Vivek Chitra Sundaram. That will be covered in 1990 as already referred by Faram and App. Mis-judgement by the master film maker.

App, Siva has two SPB solos (one that Grouch had mentioned above (IMHO, this song was better picturized than the others in the movie) and Ada Mapilla). Hope these two songs will be covered.
Had a question on whether Agneepath (original Bacchan movie) got re-made by Rajini in Tamil. Apparently the original Agneepath was not a BO hit and the recent Hrithik starrer has done very well (apparently this movie was the inspiration for the recent chennai school incident).
