Soon I'd expect people to say that in process of being regarded as overtly overrated, how uber underrated it has become..

It was a big hit but I've seen more people talk about its inferior remake 'Aakhri Raasta' than the original.
Ungalukku naan endha contextla sonnEnnu puriyala. Anyway I did like OKD a lot when I watched it. But it has been a while since I revisited it. I normally don't try to find faults with old movies if I liked them on first visit because time and taste change over the period of time. Very very few movies overcome the test of time IMO. In the category of acting OKD is much superior to Aakhri Raasta. The only improvisation in Aakhri Raasta was the climax where they made the last murder as more believable one.

There is certain disdain for fans pre-Nayagan Kamal movies going on here, I am very much affected in that case.
Anyway, in my offence against Barathiraja, I did write, "He took a break from village, came up with excellent Sigappu Rojakkal, one of the very few film of his that didn’t age, thanks to well preserved Kamal Haasan and awesome soundtrack. Not that it was original, but nobody has seen a suspense thriller ala Psycho before in the industry."

Avvai Shanmugi revisit on wife's request (after we saw a comedy clip on TV).
- Still is as lovely. Only thing, they could have avoided the running "ippo nenggathAne sonningga" gag. One too many.
- Best prosthetic job ever, almost perfect.
- best performance by a kid, wish it was her not Shalini back in 80s
- Kamal acting as Pandian, acting as avvai faking emotional moments....first class! first class!
- Better and more clever than Mrs. Doubtfire (Kamal's authentic mAmi vs William's pedophile in drag).
- the laughs...I'd giggle anticipating a comedic scene, wife'd be curious, then the scene comes and I continue laughing. This is comedy, man!
- it hadn't aged, and it won't.
