Slow cooker
Is slow cooker and rice cooker the same?
Does anyone use any of these to cook rice? What are its uses other than cooking rice? Is it worth to buy one?
Thanks for any input.

Hi Redpepper:
I have seen people make rasam and keep it like that especially when you have parties. It will be hot and cooks slowly.

Hi RedPepper,
I have a slow cooker...My husband is a health freak..... so once he went to walmart... and saw this cooker made of peengan(tamil word)... or some kind of stone.. he got excited as stone cooking adds to the flavour( i dont agree with him) and bought it... Now i had to find some use of it.... To be frank with you i rarely use it.... most of the time we want fast cooking.. we dont want slow cooking....it takes every for rice to cook.... u can make stew and some non-veg stuff( i am a veggie) the only thing i make is Hyderabadi Biriyani... which comes our very well in it...... Well i read yesterday that u can make yogurt in it... well for half of that price you can buy a yogurt maker.... well if you want to keep something in the morning and come back in the nite and have it ready, then you can use it...this idea is not great for me... as i will keep thinking about electric bill or some kind of electric outage... i will be more peaceful.. if everything is done when i leave my place...... if not it is my opinion that its not very good.... but if u happen to have it ... let me know i fyou want the recipe for my biriyani.... i am will gladly give u.....
i hope this big post helped you

Very true... This is one thing that has been holding me back from buying a slow cooker... Think twice before you invest in slow cooker... From what i've heard, it takes 6-8 hrs to cook dhal in it... So,chk the elec consumption before you buy one...
