If you come to know the third composition (from Ilaiyaraaja - Fire Star: Synth Pop & Electro-Funk from Tamil films 1985-1989 soundtrack), I am sure you would all be dumbfounded as I was. This is a BGM from a Ramarajan film; Thangamaana Raasa (1989). I could never imagine any other composer (in the world) being this generous and being equal to every director/actor/producer. Electric guitars, acoustic drums, piercing synthesizers all make a unique experience. I never heard such a sound quality, not even in any recent IR soundtracks. I am still amazed how a small company like this could remaster Maestro's 80's soundtrack to such amazing heights. I would like to quote the sleeve notes from the soundtrack about this track.
Most Indian film composers concentrate on writing songs and leave the scoring of the background music to their assistants. As a result, many indian background scores are filled with run-of-the-mill violins and brass crescendos. This is however not true of Ilaiyaraaja, whose background scores are often breathtaking. Unfortunately, very little of this music was ever released. LPs of Bollywood films infrequently contained either the title or background music, but this was even more of a rarity in Tamil cinema. Instead, to buffer out the length of a LP, the same song would feature twice. This piece of electro funk from the THANGAMANA RAASA LP is one of those once-in-a-blue moon exceptions. Strangely enough, it cannot be found on the film, and must have been left on the cutting floor.
