I think IRIR was just referring to the kind of response different movies of Kamal generated. At least, I couldn't see anything funny except his comments on graphics gimmicks and all. I don't see any part of his post that was glorifying fanaticism (though I don't agree with any of his views on this)

ejjattly! i was only sharing what i could recollect from my memories - pre-1978 memories are not vivid as i was too small - nammakku gyabagam irundhadha vacchu sonnaen! and of course my opinion of FDFS adulation - nothing wrong in it, so far as it does not affect others - there are makkals all over the world, who would do anything for their favorite rockstars, popstars etc etc - so idhuvum adhula serthhi - avvalo thaan

Guna ran for 90 days in Nagercoil , that too in a big theatre Lakshmi (now no more)

1987ம் ஆண்டில் இருந்து தான் தமிழ் நாட்டில் vcd அறிமுகம் ஆனது. தீபாவளிக்கு வெளியான நாயகன்,உழவன் மகன் படங்களுக்கு படம் வெளிவந்த அன்றே ஒரிஜினல் பிரிண்ட் வெளியிடப் பட்டது. ஆனால் மனிதன் படத்திற்கு avm நிறுவனத்தார் vcd வெளியிடவில்லை.

1988ம் ஆண்டு சத்யா படத்திற்கும் படம் வெளிவந்த அன்றே ஒரிஜினல் பிரிண்ட் வெளியிடப் பட்டது. அதற்கு பின்பு என்ன காரணம் என்று தெரியவில்லை நிறுத்திவிட்டார்கள்.

no need to search for cover (AFAIK) - amali thumali (figuratively speaking ?), traffic jam usage are perfect observations !! thats how it felt around that time

right adjacent to udhayam complex was a shopping center - actually an 'I' shaped structure, that had a book lending library, stationary, grocery, audio shops, a rice/wheat grinding flour mill and of course a ration shop! on the other side of the center, was an 'aavin thaaniyangi paal vazhangum' unit !! so used to frequent this place with cousins, friends etc and hence have vivid memories of the crowds around udhayam complex when the likes of 'kaithiyin dairy' , 'padikkathavan','kakki chattai', 'kodi parakkuthu' were released

no more postings on this subject - the 'amali dumalis' were real and not just imagined!

IMO , Few movies BO status were always taken in Vacha kudumi adicha mottai way ..As far as I know Mahanathi , Guna , Kuruthipunal had recent run in many towns ,but generally termed as flops ..I was in Trichy when Mahanathi released and it ran not less than 85 days in Maris Rock ..Guna ran for 90 days in nagercoil (not even a city) ,so no surprise it ran for 100 days .. Kuruthupunal BO is underrated just by comparing with Muthu , otherwise It was a decent hit .

One last post - amali thumali is a term used by 'fanboys' who you seem to completely detest. You would mainly see fanboys talk about BO / traffic jam etc., the ones who do anything for their star, waste time on unproductive activities and what not. And I found you using those fanboy-only terms funny, that is all to it. I don't doubt the BO success of any of the films you have mentioned, that is not the point - really.

This is just a general karuththu. And our *one-off* personal experiences can't make facts. For e.g. I saw Thenali 2nd day morning show and Maris 70MM was only half-full (Thenali was considered a huge hit) and PKS couple of weeks after its release, again weekend morning show and the theater was housefull. And PKS is considered a moderate hit.
