kannada film music
Hello Rajesh,
One more golden song picked up by you from the treasure.
Ratnagiri rahasya(Padmini pictures-B R Panthulu), an age-old folk story made as film during those days of 1957. The hand-some, tall man like a tarzan was Shri Udaya kumar (Michelle, you guessed right!) with jamuna. The film has 9 songs, which are beautifully tuned by T G Lingappa, lyrics by kanagal prabhakara sastry.
List of songs:
1. AnaMda mahadAdanaMda (jikki, rajalakshmi, Rani)
2. anurAgada amarAvati (Leela P,Soundara rajan T M)
3. amarA madhurA prEma (Susheela P)
4. bA bA bA Odi bA bA bA (Leela, Rani)
5. kivi eraDu sAkEnayya (Sulamangalam Rajalakshmi)
6. kalyANa namma kalyANa (Leela p, Soundara rajan T M)
7. O raja O maharaja (Rani, Sarojini R)
8. SharaNara kayo jagannatha (Sulamangalam Rajalakshmi)
9. suma bANa biDu mauna (Jikki)
All these songs are available on www.musicindiaonline.com

Meaning of the song ‘Amara madhura prema’
amara-immortal madhura-sweet like honey prEma-love
you come soon chaMdamama
(Chandamama is cool full moon - young lady calling her lover referring to chandamama)
with all passion (sadAnurAgadi) for you (tA ninagAgi)
this flower (like lady) is waiting
before fading out of blossom of youth (suma yauvanavu)
why don’t you come near (to me)
come soon you chandamama
after filling desires in (my) mind
(is it fair to) forget them (and) runaway
fondness, remembrance, gladness, beauty/charm
before it becomes dream or tale
come soon you chandamama

hello RR
'yenu arthaagilla..! solpaa karunaa maadi..'
It is simple that "mAgi kAla" is winter season. Likewise "vasaMta kAla" is spring season. The cuckoo's singing during 'spring' season matches with fifth note of karnatak music "pa"(paMcama swara)
where thare are no other equivalets to 'pa" note. (although cuckoo make sound as usual like any other bird but poet's imagination is that). But in winter season, when most of the trees are withering their leaves, cuckoo's singing will not be in happiest mood.
with regard to lyric 'mAgiya ede tOri kUgItu kOgila' , I am unable to decipher these words.
I also heard the song 'cheluva chandana' from the film 'giya giya gagiya'. Music is good though not used convestional instruments
and in slow pace, mild. But it has run for more than 5 mintutes with repetition of words several times.
