GA has always been versatile. When he was a youth he used to write many letters to Vaali. One day he met Vaali and said he wanted to recite a poem written by him. BTW his original name is Amarsingh, with which he wrote his letters. Vaali said, amar... sing (sit, sing). It was in 16V BR said Amar should write a song and he wrote sendhoorappoovE and the world came to know about Gangai Amaran later Ganghei Amaren. Later he went on to compose music for few films including SIS, VM etc. Songs like Kaadhal vaibOgamE, neela vaana Odayil speak of his musical capabilities

GA started his directing venture with kOzhi koovudhu which had moderate success. The next one kokkarakkO was a disaster. These movies happened in the earlier part of the 80's. After a gap he returned during late 80's.

It was Karagaattakkaaran, with which he hit the jackpot. The movie had everything in equal measure and GA cleverly assembled things in place. I think the movie ran for an year in Madhurai

One of the things which fell in place and just elevated the movie was the comedy. Well the previous statement is clearly an understatement.

My fav scene is every one's favorite, adhaannE idhu. I think Senthil should be credited more than aNNan for the monstrous success of this.
