San_K,
Regardless of what the figures were a few years back, the current position of ARR in TN does not seem to be the same.
He may not be able to do another sakkarakkatti today and seems to lean upon Rajinikanth / Shankar / Maniratnam kind of names to "re-start".
Interestingly, that kind of 're-start' is possible even for a 69 year old, as amply demonstrated by Gautam

Perfectly Put..that is egggggjactly what i was trying to argue...
>Sales has lot to do with lots of non music things these days
>There is no major ARR exclusive market in tamil now
But athula namma Raja vooda greatness ennana..
Other MDs would do anything for such a restart..But Raja doesnt compromise at all..
GVM, AVM yevana irunthalum... i will do my music only..

Guys vevaramaa meesikkalaa pesunga..
personality discussion 'hubbukku' aagaadhu. sollipputtaen.
CD sales paththi naama yeppa kavala patrukkOm?
Leaving that aside - I was listening to 'Naan porandha neramaa" from "KannukkuLLe" - suddenly started humming out
"Satru munbu's charanam" - same feeling - nice pathos...
Apparently, a democracy is a place where numerous elections are held at great cost without issues and with interchangeable candidates.

Guys, futile discussion.
App, If even ARR can't do sakkarakkatti's now I don't think any other MD can. ARR is still the #1 w.r.to sales and there is no point in trying to downplay it here.
Raaja was nowhere in the picture before NEPV. His previous thamizh film, the mp3s were given for free. That NEPV beat VTV audio rights is a great thing for sure. But CD sales, I don't think even 10% of the general public buy CDs these days.
Sales etc., don't matter here. Raaja lost it long back / I am extremely glad that he is back to #1 now, but his next may not even be sold for Rs.5001. But what matters is the quality and NEPV is better than any album released in the 2010s and that's exactly what we need.

I mean compare Sakkarakatti Vs Mayilu Vs Muththirai (Yuvan film) Vs Sathiyam (Harris). There is no comparison. Sakkarakatti sales might be 10x more than the other 3 combined. So let's drop this here.

No, Raja brings out special in him when working with high profile directors as well. His scores for Maniratnam movies have always been outstanding... I'm glad that GVM having a great ear for music has brought out special out of Raaja.
