"say louuu say louuu", the chorus, violins always in a pitch totally at loggerheads with the song, bass etc etc - adapted well nu neenga solreenga, Rahman-like nu Ajay solraaru
"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Bala, the prelude of Aval varuvala song in Nerukku Ner - casette playerla to cd audio player transition appo we used this song to feel the effect..hehe. He packed his songs much better than others of his time. April Madhathil-lam massive youthu hit. We cant blame Deva definitely in the Melody/Tune wise. He has always provided some great tunes - sondhamo/copiyo!
I see Plum's point. I was just against stereotyping Deva into vetti otra aal. He is much more than that. Kaathadikudhu, thirupathi elumala venkatesa, sandhiya sandhiya, anbe nee mayila kuyila all in one movie!

I like Aasai a lot but nowhere near the soundscape of Rahman. In fact, he became worse with time.
As usual, argument ennannu purinju post pandra orE asaami ivaru dhaan!

idhukku mEla solla oNNum illai, If Deva's sound was "Like Rahman" (as opposed to "westernised in a vague way but most certainly not in any way reflective of Rahman's musical style"), then Faramu is the King of England

Somehow I feel it's our memory that's dancing & eluding us, because we, non-musicals (and I say that with all respect, as member of the cult) immediately associate music to images - the director (Vasanth, Sj surya) and the production (Mani Ratnam, KV Anand, Jeeva and so on). Anything western standardized in the score/songs, we tend to treat it slightly (as it should, a peripheral detail).

Agree Fla,
You and I know how I am totally against equal standing of passable opinion with detailed critique. I'm just trying to find out why this happens.
I'm trying to find out the cause.
for instance, there was a time, I would enjoy 'Megam Karukudhu' equally as much as 'Thenmerku paruva katru'. But as you hear more, read more and gain more understanding of the Art, you sort of see how debasing & devaluing this could be.
'Enjoyed more', 'Enjoyed equally'. The word 'enjoyed' used in an empty assertive way should be banned, I suppose.
