I think he knew it, and realised that his films will be nominated only if they want India to win, maybe to explore US jatti market in India, just like the beauty pageant meant for beauty products. Remember in one year where suddenly not only best actor and actress went to African American, but also lifetime achievement award? Anggeyum dakalti, dubakoore-unggo. It is not he who thumped his chest wanting to get Oscar, it's the fans/media who associated that award with him.

dakalti / dubagoor ellaam irukku no doubt abt that - however, while a 'virumandi', 'kurudhipunal', or a 'mahanadhi' is def worth an oscar look (those jail stunt scenes deleted - coz they are a ripoff of a stallone film!) - but sending 'indian' for oscar category nomination is hilarious ! plus Kamal's indulgences in suttufying Hollywood films guarantee that those suttufied plots would not pass muster anywhere outside India!

yes - you got it right - it is Lock up - Oscar committee are quite knowledgeable when it comes to their own films - even if they are not, an entire coterie of film critics such as Roger Ebert, Ty Burr and 100s of others are very very well-versed with american as well as european cinema ! so indha madhiri sagattumenikku hollywood padathhulerundhu suttuttu, adhaiye oscar committee kku anuppuchhaa, moonjila kari thaan minjum!

I don't want to elaborately reply except for one thing. Just get down to TN roads and ask any stranger Public, WHat you like in kamal" get answer as deep/specific as possible. Surely they will be ready to answer in-depth becos it is for Kamal! whatever they list, surely, will be a trait / talent/event/act which he had achieved on his own only, and all these so called inspirations/copy will just remain as a small part of the hube work he had done adn none of them would feature in the like list of general public.
