TRIVA:

The film was a remake of the Kannada film Bombay Dada starring Tiger Prabhakar, Vani Vishwanath, Vajramuni and Lakshmi. Prabhakar, the director and hero of the Kannada film, portrayed the negative role in the Tamil version.
When the project was decided it was Rajini who suggested to remake Bombay Dada, Kannada Movie.
In this movie, Superstar Rajini was called "Mr.Right" and all his t.shirts in this movie had the "tick" symbol. There was a short sensation among Rajini fans during this time as they used to flock to the tailor shops to put a "tick" mark embroidary on their shirts.

Dance Master Lawrence danced with Rajini in Adi Jumpa Song

The film released to largely negative reviews and was a rare box office disaster for a Rajinikanth movie. After giving string of hits, this became one of his rare movies furing his period to fail at the box office.

This was Rajinikanth's last film with SP. Muthuraman.
This is one of the few Rajini films which did not have any tracks sung by S.P. Balasubramaniam.
This is the movie made for the unit of SPM including Editor, Assistant directors, makeup man etc and they are still leading a decent life based on this movie profits
During the making of this movie Kamala( wife of SPM died) Rajini asked to cancel the shoots but AVm Saravanan had a talk with distributors who said they would be at a loss if the movie did not release on Diwali. Saravanan revealed it to SPM who came for shooting the next day.
This movie’s Rajini’s police episodes were shot in Pondicherry. Huge Public crowds were watching the proceedings of shooting which astonished political parties who were watching Rajini’s movements those days with care.
Kushboo was introduced by SPM in Dharmathin Thalaivan. As a mark of respect she refused to negotiate salary hence AVM Saravanan enquired about her salary with various producers and SPM gave her salary that she was receiving those days( Token of gratitude)
Jayasudha made her comeback to Tamil Cinema after a gap of few years
This movie was released in Diwali 1992 along with Devar Magan.
When Rajini was to do a fim with AVm with a director other than SPM, AVm saravanan asked Rajini to first complete SPM movie and then Yejaman was started.
SPm knew only direction marketing was taken care of AVM Saravanan & his son MS Guhan
Vijay’s Pokiri had a similar story line.

PLOT:

Raja( Rajini) and Babu (Prabhu) are two friends and petty criminals. They call themselves as Guru & Sisyan .
They end up in jail and come across an innocent man Manohar ('Mannvaasanai' Paandiyan) who tells them that his sister was raped by Muthuraaj (Radha Ravi) and who had killed a taxi driver (witness) with the help of foolish corrupt police officer Nallasivam (Vinu Chakravarthy) and pinned the murder on Manohar. Manohar is sentenced to death row for the killing by the court. Guru and Babu believe in Manohar's story and decide to find the truth and prove his innocence once they get out of jail. Guru fractures Manohar's hand so that his death sentence would be delayed, until it heals, under law. Guru and Babu get released from prison and set in motion an elaborate plan to find out the real killers.
Rajini hatches a plan along with Prabhu by which prabhu loves Seetha, daughter of Ravichandran ( Ravichandran is brother of Radharavi) . Rajini joins as henchman under Radharavi to find out evidence.
Along the way, Guru, who believed that his parents were murdered, finds out that they are in fact being held captive by Muthuraj's brother Rajamanickam(Ravichandran) who is trying to find the map to a treasure. The location of the map is know only to Guru's father who is suffering from memory loss and is tortured to make him remember it. Babu finds out that his parents were murdered by Rajamanickam (Ravichandran).
Guru and Babu help them find the treasure to free Guru's parents and Guru finds out that Manohar is his own brother. The ensuing fight at the treasure location, ends up with Muthuraj and his brother arrested by the police after Guru and Babu beat them up and the treasure cave collapses after Guru, Babu and Guru's family escape from it. Babu marries Muthuraj's nephew Chitra(Seetha) while Guru marries Nallasivam's daughter Gouthami and they live happily ever after.

TRIVA:

The film was a remake of Hindi film.
Panchu Arunachalam wanted to make a film with Rajini for a long time but could not do so because Rajini was too busy those days.
SPM suggested to do a movie for PA Arts
Rajini agreed to give 18 days call sheet for a guest role
SPm said no to guest role as distributors would bargain if Rajini appears in guest role & asked him for 21 days call sheet
SPM, Panchu, Prabbhu were doing Dharmathin thalaivan also at same time as the shoot was delayed this project started
This is the first movie for Gautami who later on starred in hit movies with Rajini like Panakaran, Dharmadurai, Raja Chinna Roja
Gautami could not match Rajini’s speed in Jingadi Jingadi song. Dance master Puliyur Saroja gave rehearsals for whole day and the song was shot in next day
As Seetha call sheet was available SPM requested Rajini to go to Chennai as his scenes was not canned today but Rajini came to shooting spot and worked with team helped in shooting such was the cooperation of the star.
The movie was complete in 21 days, Rajini’s portion in 18 days & ran for 100 days.
The song Kandupudichen was shot in 3 hours

By the way, need to confirm this. For Guru Sishyan, Vaa Vaa Vanji was also meant for Rajini, but he asked for it to be used for Prabhu. Is it true?

PLOT:

Balu (Rajinikanth), an absent minded lecturer in a college, and Sumathi (Suhasini) love each other and plan to marry soon. Balu lives with his younger brother, Raju (Prabhu), and Raju already calls Sumathi "Anni". Raju is a bad student and somewhat a rowdy, spoiled by Balu and Sumathi's pamperings. Raju keeps getting into fights with a fellow student (Nassar) and as a result keeps getting into trouble. When Balu comes to help Raju during one of those fights he is killed by Nassar. Sumathi goes into a trance, dons the garb of a widow and does not plan to marry again. Both Raju and Sumathi move to Bangalore.

Then one day a look-alike of Balu, named Shankar (Rajinikanth) enters Sumathi and Raju's life. Guilt-ridden Raju thinks that he has gotten his brother back, and tries to make amends .Shankar is a wanted criminal, and is looking for an escape route from the authorities. Shankar on knowing about Their past reforms and they decide to revamp the garage But Sumathi is kidnapped in order to force Shankar to aid a kingpin (Captain Raju) to smuggle diamonds.
With Raju's help, of course, good prevails over evil
In the end, Rajini marries Suhasiini and Prabhu marries Kushboo.

The film was a remake of Hindi film Kamse Vada starring Amitabh Bachan but it is a serious film but here humour is too good
This film was done to bail out Devar films who was in financial crisis
It was Rajini who suggested Prabhu must have a fight sequence and Rajini gave instructions to fight in the scene , a nice fight scene indeed
Then Madurai Vaigai Nadhi - S. P. Balasubramaniam, P. Susheela Was a super hit and palyed on Dec 12 on Rajini Birthday
The other songs was also good
