Aah! I was waiting to see who else can connect this. While humming GG title song on the 1st day (when promos were out), i ended up going into aala asathum song. It is not just the raaga connection but also the phrases similarity.

happened to listen to GRAMATHU MINNAL (jingu chikkan dress wearing Ramarajan's 1987 film) - the song 'vatti eduthha' bears striking resemblance to ARR's 1999 'taal se taal milaa' - felt something sounded similar in the beginning and when IR sings "thottukida onnum illaye" i go "adangoyyalaa - idhu suttadhu !"
did anyone notice that ??

I happened to have gramathu minnal in my collection. I think it is just a coincidence. Rahman is pretty straight with tuness. He is always on the lookout for unique rhythm arrangements though

Illayaraja's next album, Maranthen Mannithen coming out this Friday

After the huge success of Neethaane En Ponvasantham, Maestro Illayaraja's next album will be released this Friday. The film is called Maranthen Mannithen and the event will take place at Sathyam Cinemas at 9:30 A.M. on the 26th of October.
Maranthen Mannithen pairs Lakshmi Manchu and Taapsee Pannu opposite Aadhi and Sandeep Kishan. The film will be a bilingual and will simultaneously release in Telugu as Gundello Godari and Illayaraja's music for the film is one of the highlights. It will be directed by debutant Kumar Nagendra and is produced by Lakshmi Manchu herself. Will the album live up to the heights of Neethaane En Ponvasantham?

Well, the vague similarity can't be termed as copy or even inspiration by ARR. Definitely NOT a 'sutta pazham'

Mayilu movie review:
http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/t...iew/12880.html
"...The life and soul of the movie is Illayaraja's background score. He has ensured that there is life in every frame through his BGM. At places, he has allowed silence take the sequences forward..."
thanks,
Krishnan
