There was a time when Tamil heroes and their dubbed movies had a strong market in Tollywood. The likes of Suriya, Vikram, Karthi and to an extent Ajith have been able to make good revenue here. But one man despite being a superstar in Kollywood has never been able to impress the Telugu audience.
He is none other than Vijay. But despite knowing his track record, one producer went ahead and took a high risk gamble. She is Shoba Rani. According to sources, Shoba has shelled out a whopping Rs 12 crores and bought the dubbed version of the film ‘Thuppakki’. The film had a simultaneous release in Tamil and Telugu.
Though there is Murugadoss brand factor as the director, the film has opened to phenomenal response in Tamil but average response in Telugu. It is heard that Shoba Rani already has one more dubbed film ‘Marina’ lying in her office. So it is not sure what made her invest so much for Vijay’s film and end up in losses.

He conveniently ignored the article from the same site which says the Telugu version has so far collected 2.5C overseas alone.

Yogaraj Bhat directed Drama has taken a grand opening in Karnataka despite mixed reviews in press, but the fate of Edhegaarike is still to be decided in the forthcoming weeks.
Drama is sure to become a hit, but the range of business that the film makes has also become uncertain because of the confused picture emerging from the reviews and audience feed back.
Nagarjuna starrer Damarukam has not been able to attract big crowds.
The English film Life of Pi in 3D is getting very good collections. It is the Tamil film Thupaaki and Shah Rukh Khan`s JTHJ which is still ruling the roost..

Of all the Diwali releases, only Thuppakki appears in the top 5 this week at the Bangalore box office with a Super Hit status. Critics and sadists who want to still spread rumours about Vijay's failure can take a walk
