Time to rejoice and time for Vijay to think about his future. Read an article in JuVI which says that Vijay is in loggerheads with his father for needlessly pulling him into all this mess while his film career was going strong. Hope that is true. Because as an actor, he has a lot to achieve. Politics is not his cup of tea and he has to master many skills before he can think of it. And it is certainly not the time.

And haters have already started their next campaign that Kamal received lot of support(??) from Cine industry while Vijay is not even getting one voice. Except Rajni, I remember no one raising a voice. And Viswaroopam was produced by Kamal himself and hadn't the film released, he would've been the sole sufferer. In this case, Vijay has already got his pay and in all rights, he couldve moved on to Jilla. But he took the pains to get the movie released. Kudos!! Kamal did seem to get more support from all the media (all over India) and from film artists who had come en mass to his home. But its not a fair comparison .. It was a different issue. Kamal is a senior artist with no interest in politics. Here as you mention, the issue is 'ota vaayi' SAC who clearly messed it up. Political maneuvering is complicated .. better to stay away from it all. Despite all the troubles Kamal faced, VR was still a blockbuster. So, if the movie is well received by the TN makkal, there's nothing to stop Thalaiva. Just needs a fair chance ...

Tamil movie Thalaivaa did not release in Tamil Nadu for some reasons. But it hit the screens in other states including Karnataka and other parts of the world without any hurdle. The Kollywood movie has got a wonderful start at the Box Office. More importantly, it rocked at the Bangalore Box Office in spite of facing a tough competition from other releases. As the movie did not release in Tamil Nadu, fans of Vijay were forced to go to other states to watch Thalaivaa. The prime destination for the people from Chennai, Hosur and border regions were Bangalore. Hence, the movie got an earth-shattering response in this part of the world. In the Garden City, the film was released in above 26 screens.

We spoke to a few fans at some theatres and multiplexes. A fan named Aditya said, "We are very disappointed because our star Vijay's Thalaivaa was not released in Tamil Nadu. I always make sure that I watch the Vijay movies on the release day. But this time, I could not see his flick on the first day. Hence, I decided to come down to Bangalore."

A fan named Ramya claims, "When I realised that Thalaivaa was not releasing in Tamil Nadu, instead of wasting time, I came to Bangalore . I had a wonderful time watching the movie here.

Is it possible to view theater occupant count before getting tickets? Or is it u changed the ticket after watching the count. Also is it possible to change, if yes?

@Ragul, it is not possible to change after getting tickets, but there is a possibility that the theatre incharge requesting the one or two members who purchased tickets for that movie to change to another screen citing the low attendance.. It happened to our team once for a telugu film @ Mayajaal ....

Film industry-politics link : After Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam, Vijay starrer-Thalaivaa faces delay

In January, high drama preceded the release of actor Kamal Haasan's magnum opus Vishwaroopam. The movie was initially stalled, following protests by Muslim groups that were concerned about the portrayal of their community. 'Vishwaroopam' did release eventually, but not before a nervy period of protests and a showdown that the actor had with the state government.

Cut to the present, where another high profile actor is going through what Haasan had gone through just seven months ago. The Vijay-starrer Thalaivaa (which means leader), made at a budget of Rs 60 crore, has been stalled. But the comparison ends there.

For, unlike during Vishwaroopam, the state government has said it has got nothing to do with the stalling. Thalaivaa was blocked after a little-known group calling itself Tamil Nadu Oppressed Students Revolutionary Force threatened theatres and multiplexes in the state. "It's a complete mystery," a trade analyst, wishing anonymity, points out. No names of theatres that have received these threatening messages have been disclosed. The police also seem to have washed their hands of this issue. The Thalaivaa team has also been denied permission to protest. So, what's happening? Nobody has a clue. In Tamil Nadu, no one with stakes in this issue wants to throw light on it. There have been no statements from either the directors' union or the producers' council. Those in the movie business don't want to talk on record, as rumours rule the roost. "We cannot speculate anything. There is no transparency," says C Lakshmanan, assistant professor at the Madras Institute of Development Studies....contd

What the issue has managed to highlight once more is the film industry's unhealthy dependence on the government, a fallout of how the world of movies and politics interact seamlessly here. "Tamil Nadu has an established history where film and politics cannot be separated. Either the state should come out clearly or the film producer or actor should explain what the exact problem is," says Lakshmanan. That's why getting the administration to back the movie's release seems to be the only way out for Thalaivaa. But Vijay and producer Chandraprakash Jain, who says he will come to the streets if the film doesn't get released soon, haven't been able to meet chief minister J Jayalalithaa till now.

Vishwaroopam didn't start a trend. Back in 1973, actor-turned-politician MG Ramachandran faced the heat in trying to get his movie Ulagam Suttrum Vaaliban released. Closer to date, the movie Dam 999 was banned by Tamil Nadu, in the backdrop of the Mullaiperiyar dam dispute between the state and Kerala. Kamal Haasan even had to change the title of one of his movies, which later became Virumandi, after protestors of a particular caste alleged that the original title was a derogatory reference. The film industry-politics links are that strong in this part of the world. Five of the state's chief ministers, including Jayalalithaa and arch-rival M Karunanidhi, have emerged from the film industry. Even Opposition leader Vijayakanth is an actor.

The government machinery controls the movies business in different ways. Unlike in any other state, there's a cap of Rs 120 on theatre tickets, with a row of seats to be offered at Rs 10! The rule was brought in by Karunanidhi and hasn't been changed by Jayalalithaa. Tamil Nadu used to give entertainment tax exemption depending on whether a movie has a Tamil title or not. Now, the markers used for tax sop qualifications are a bit fuzzy. Thalaivaa, which got a U certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, didn't pass muster with the review panel of the Commercial Taxes Department.... ... Contd

For the industry, the stakes are so high that they rather not mess up their relationships with the government.The Tamil language film industry, also known as Kollywood, is one of the biggest regional language industries in India. In 2012, it churned out some 150 films. Though small- budget movies have ruled the roost recently, big- budget, mass hero films are still a big draw.Vishwaroopam was one such. So is Thalaivaa.

What makes the issue intriguing is the fact that the movie lead-stars Vijay, a popular actor who is said to have political ambitions. Vijay, who made his debut about two decades ago, was one of the few high-stakes film personalities who took a stand against the earlier DMK-led government. During the elections in 2011, he threw his weight, and that of his numerous fan clubs, behind Jayalalithaa's AIADMK. The name thalaivaa does have a political ring to it but its makers have denied it has a political message. Film historian Theodore Baskaran says, "Such incidents indicate the fact that the film industry is not functioning independently. This is not a healthy sign."

He likens the situation to one that existed during the freedom struggle when the British censored any topic that related to social issues — labour, poverty and freedom struggle. "During that time, producers and director made more movies on mythology. A similar trend will happen in Tamil Nadu cinemas too if this continues. It will curb the growth of cinema as a creative art form." Even if Thalaivaa, which released in markets outside Tamil Nadu, miraculously gets released this second at home, the question will still remain: what happened ?

Watched it again today here in US. To my surprise, there were three Americans also watched it with us. Not sure why they were there. Scenes between Satyaraj and Vijay were awesome. Dance is one of Vijay's greatest strength and the whole first half is based on his dance skills. Never seen before dance moves by Vijay and many moves makes u say WoW. Second half is full of mass scenes. Good thing is action scenes are very natural. Of course lots of twist which will keep you engaged with movie. Sure shot super hit.

If you haven’t seen how a king is brought to town, witness it tomorrow at the Udhayam Theater. At 11 am on the 20th August, the reel box of Thalaivaa will be brought to Udhayam in a massive Chariot. Vijay's fans have planned a huge procession to celebrate the release of their idol’s much awaited movie.

Following a row of controversies, Thalaivaa releases tomorrow in Tamil Nadu. Though not as grand as it was planned to be released on 9th August, the film has been given around 400 screens across the state, as of now. It is expected that more last minute bookings will be made and the final figure will be higher. By the end of the night, the final figure for the total screen count is expected to be known.

The advance booking has been spectacular as usual and a huge opening is expected in the state, despite the delay.

Thalaivaa is releasing tomorrow (20th August 2013) all across Tamil Nadu in more than 400 screens and the opening in Chennai City is bound to be really grand as most of the big screens are showing Thalaivaa.
The biggest screens in the city such as Devi, Sathyam, Abirami 7 Star, Sangam, Kamala Screen 1, Woodlands, Albert, Udhayam and Kasi would be screening Thalaivaa, 4shows a day. The other multiplexes such as Fame (8 shows), Inox (8 shows), AGS (10 shows each in Navalur and Villivakkam), Mayajaal (50 shows inclusive of the Atmos version) will also be giving Thalaivaapride of place in their properties.
The Dolby Atmos version of the movie is being screened in Sathyam'sSerene, Escape's Streak and Mayajaal.
With a wide release such as this, despite the delay, Thalaivaa looks set for a big fat gross at the box-office.

Watched FDFS in Kasi theatre..Theatre atmosphere was teriffic throughout the movie..

Liked the movie..1st half was a mixture of dance, comedy & romance in which thalaivar had excelled in all departments..Little bit diasppointed with the dance steps in Tamil pasanga song,may be i exected more..2nd half was little bit lenghty..but did not feel bored at any point of time..fans went frenzied for Vanganna Vanakanna song..

i enjoyed the movie thoroughly.. first half was neat and breezy.. santhanam was at his best :) lot of rotfl moments..and vijay-amala paul pair really looked good in first half for romantic scenes.. the ecstasy of dance gave me goosebumps :thumbsup: !! interval block was shocking one.. never expected this.. after that vijay transforming to bhai marana mass started.. video tape scene was awesome one ,acha kiddaar :p :p super thalaivaaa semma underplayed by vijay throughout the second half..in second half he gave the real feel of don...and in climax another twist...though Second half was lengthy, it was engaging till the end.. Satyaraj was powerful ,ALV used him so well.. 2nd heroeine was eye candy and beautiful pick..other casts were ok..Nirav shah #respect :notworthy: perfect picturisation..gvp bgm was not bad..among songs,

After crossing roadblocks, Vijay starrer Tamil action drama "Thalaivaa" has finally released in Tamil Nadu and Pudicherry.

At the city's Udhayam theatre, fans brought the film's reel in a chariot, performed pooja and then carried it on their shoulders to the operator's room.


"It's a ritual to carry the reel of Vijay's films on a chariot. So, fans organised a chariot and brought the reel after performing pooja in a temple. They danced all the way from the temple to the theatre. Fans in the theatre poured milk on Vijay's life size cut outs and also put kumkum and garlanded on his posters," a representative of Udhayam theatre told IANS.

In Tamil Nadu, Thalaivaa hit approximately 405 screens.

"Fans were waiting for the theatre gates to open since 6 a.m. in the morning. They wanted to set up everything before the release of the film. Most of Vijay's fans wore t-shirts with his image on it and were dancing to his songs," said the representative.

"Thalaivaa", originally scheduled to come out Aug 9, was stalled after theatre owners received threats from a political outfit.

The film's producer Chandra Prakash Jain and director A.L. Vijay requested Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalitha to intervene.

"Thalaivaa" got a green signal after it the makers agreed to drop the tagline - Time to Lead - from its publicity stills and promotions for reasons unknown.

The film released peacefully across the state Tuesday.

"We didn't have any problem since morning. It has been a very smooth release. In some of the big and old theatres, police were deployed to ensure fans maintain decorum. The response has been phenomenal as thousands turned out to on a weekday to see the film," Sunil Jain, son of producer C.P. Jain, told IANS.

Amala Paul, Ragini Nandwani, Sathyaraj and Abhimanyu Singh also features in the film.
Mayajaal, one of the biggest multiplexes in the city, is running 50 shows of "Thalaivaa".

"We have had about 85-90 percent occupancy since morning. I'm sure it will drastically increase in the next few days and will be packed during the weekend," a representative of Mayajaal told IANS.

According to trade pundits, "Thalaivaa" is expected to have a big opening.

"Going by the response to the film since morning, it is likely to collect between Rs.5 crore and Rs.10 crore. Vijay's recent films have managed to reap gold on the release day in Tamil Nadu, and, 'Thalaivaa' will surely follow suit," said trade analyst Trinath.
