Annamalai was the first film (excluding Chadrabose for AVM & Hamsalekha for Bharathiraja) Deva came in due to the rift between Kavithalaya (KB) & IR (that goes back to Puthu Puthu Arthangal victory celebration I guess).

Rajini actually wanted IR for Batsha (as per an IR interview in AV), which he denied (for no reason other than ego).

Romba azhuthakkaararthaan IR. Again who knows what went on behind the scenes.

There were even news that for the premiere show of Thalapathy, GV didn't treat IR's family well & hence the split with them.

Pithamagan.. Number.. its a different music genre (Raja Genre)

Pl note Thaliavar's popularity raised to different level after every movie. This also added pressure, on everyone involved in making a thalivar movie including mujik director. I think even IR knows that he can provide only 1 or 2 peppy number which could attract younger generation and not the whole album. Thats where ARR, and other new mujik directors are succeding.. this could be the reason why turned down CM, Kuslean. I don't remember he ever composing a Intro number for Thaliavar. just imagine if he composing cinema cinema song (I would have definetely.. vommitted ). Becuase he has different standards we have different set of espectations from him.

Vivs i think the part about IR composing cinema cinema has been misunderstood. I think he meant that for such a genius, IR scoring songs like Cinema Cinema as in that actual tune and orchestration by GVP would have been near embarassing. I dunt think he means IR cannot score better than Cinema Cinema.

Otherwise the part about not scoring intro songs and peppy nos, Dilip i am not sure whether u have heard old songs of IR and Rajini but it is a well known fact that Pothuvaaga En Manasu Thangam is considered one of the best intro songs of Rajini and also several mass songs as well. (Naan Thaan Toppu from Thanikaatu Raaja is one example). Peppy songs were plenty as well (vaa vaa pakkam vaa). This is one area where alot of composers fail where Raja has succeeded. He could experiment like he always do yet give a complete entertaining package to common rajini film watcher or fan. That also shows why Rajini admires him alot.

and dark skinned one like SS, VK, Vijay, Vishal, Murali.. in tamil, out of these 'ONLY' in ss films there has always been complexion related jokes and issues..

here in UK and most of the white population want 2 be brown like indians/ Latino's etc, they would go to any extent to become brown, they think brown ppl are the most beautiful, I agree cos brown skin looks healthy and toned, while white & pale looks really funny

Actor Rajini - The two mega-budget movies that are currently in various of production, Shankar's Rajni-starrer 'Enthiran: The Robot' and Maniratnam's 'Raavan' were expected to wind up their shooting schedules almost simultaneously. As it turns out now, 'Enthiran' appears to have pipped 'Raavan' to the post near the finishing line. Both the films star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as the heroine.

Unit sources say that Aishwarya Rai is primarily responsible for the delay in the shooting of 'Raavan'. May be, Ash devoted more time to Shankar's project and that could have caused the delay, it is said. A grand yagna ('Yaagam') is to be performed at the Kamakshi Amman Temple in Kancheepuram by the superstar on 12th December, his birthday. No this is for not for you. This is only for Rajini fans. I have had very bad experience in this hub. When we said something in light manner against Rajaram post we have been billed as cunning. I have more respect for Kamal's talents than many of the kamal fans' here. Old hubbers such as Roshan know about that. I don't have any intention, going forward to talk about Kamal and Kamal movies. Because it always ends in bitter and ugly fight. When we don't know how to respect each other, why should we get involved in discussion. That is my point. I don't have anything else to say here.

பத்து மாதங்களுக்கு முன்பு ஒரு படத்துவக்க விழா. அழைப்பு வந்திருந்தது. இவர் தலைமை, இவர் முன்னிலை, இவர் தயாரிப்பு, இவர் இயக்கம், இவர் இசை என்றெல்லாம் பத்திரிக்கையில் அச்சிடப்பட்டிருந்தாலும், குத்து விளக்கேற்றி துவக்கி வைத்து வாழ்த்துபவர் ரஜினிகாந்த் என்று பெரியதாய்-நாடு மையமாய்-கண்ணைப் பறிக்கிற விதத்தில் இருந்தது. அடடே, பார்த்து நெடுநாளாயிற்று. பேசி வெகுகாலமாயிற்று. இன்று சற்று நெருங்கி நின்று ‘ஹலோ’ சொல்ல வேண்டும். முடிந்தால் பேச வேண்டும்.

அவர் வண்டியிலிருந்து இறங்கி நிமிர்ந்து மலரச் சிரித்து கைகூப்ப, பெரிய கைதட்டல். இரண்டு வரிசையாய் நின்ற நண்பர்களுக்கு இடையே நடக்க, பூக்கூடையிலிருந்து ரோஜாப்பூ மழையாய் கொட்டப்பட்டது. தூவப்பட்டது. சில கணங்களுக்கு எங்கும் பூ. இருபதடி உயரத்தில் எல்லா நேரமும் அந்தரத்தில் பூக்கள் இருந்தன. தரைபட்டு, துள்ளி வாசம் எழுப்பின. பூக்கள் வீசப்பட்டு தன்மேல் பொழிவது கண்டு சட்டென்று ஒரு தயக்கம் அவருக்கு-என்ன இது என்ற பார்வை. உடனே சிரிப்பு.

இது என் புத்தி, எங்கே முதன்மை எவருக்கு நடந்தாலும் அது நானாய் இருக்க வேண்டும். எனக்கும் நடக்க வேண்டும் என்கிற புத்தி. இதைச் சொல்லிக் கொள்ள எனக்கு வெட்கமில்லை, உற்றுப் பார்த்தால் உங்களில் நிறையப் பேருக்கு புத்தி இப்படித்தான் இருக்கும். உண்மையை மட்டும் சொல்வது என்று ஊரார் தீர்மானித்தால் நூற்றுக்கு தொண்ணூற்றெட்டு பேர் இப்படித்தான் சொல்வார்கள்.

நான் மனசுள் பொங்கும் உணர்வுகளை காமம், காதல், பொறாமை, ஏக்கம், பேராசை இவைகளைத் தடுப்பதில்லை. ச்சீ வெளியே வராதே என்று எண்ணங்கள் வந்தால் அடக்குவதில்லை. மாறாய் அனுமதித்து விடுவேன். அது...அந்த எண்ணம் செலவாகும் போது மனம் கூர்மையாகி ஆராய்ந்து அலசி சுத்தம் செய்துவிட்ட பிறகே அனுமதிப்பதுண்டு. சட்டென்று ரஜினிகாந்த் மீது பொறாமை வந்தது. பொறாமைப்படுகிறோமே என்று வெட்கமும் வந்தது.

டேய் தம்பி, மனசுத் தம்பி தணிந்து போ, கேட்டு நடந்திருக்குமா, திட்டமிட்ட செயலா. அந்த மனிதனை உனக்குத் தெரியும். ‘ஹலோ’ என்று தானாய் நாலடி முன் வந்து கைகுலுக்கும் ஆள். ஒரு போட்டோ எடுத்துக்கணும் என்று யார் கேட்டாலும், எப்போது கேட்டாலும், எத்தனை நேரமானாலும் அலுக்காது சம்மதம் சொல்கிற நடிகர். சிறிது முகவாட்டம் தெரிந்தாலும் உடன் வேலை செய்யும் தோழர்களிடம் என்ன காரணம் என்று உடனே தயங்காது கேட்கும் மனிதன். இங்கு இப்படி மனிதர்கள் அபூர்வம். அதனால்தான் இந்த பூமழை பூப் போன்ற அன்புமழை.

பொறாமை விட்டு உற்றுப்பார். உன்னை, ரஜினியை இடைவிடாது பார். உனக்கு பேச வாய்ப்பு கிடைத்தாலும், உன் அருகே அவர் பிறரோடு பேசுவதைப் பார்க்க கிடைத்தாலும் உற்றுப்பார்.

திரைப்படம், வழக்கமான தியேட்டர்களில் திரையிடப்படும் முன் இங்கே டெக்னீஷியன்களுக்காகவும், நடிக நடிகையருக்காகவும், விநியோகஸ்தர்களுக்காகவும் திரையிட்டுக் காட்டப்படும். அந்தப் ப்ரிவியூ தியேட்டரில் ‘ஜென்டில்மேன்’ திரையிடப்பட்டிருந்தது. உள்ளே ரஜினி படம் பார்க்கிறார் என்பது எனக்குத் தெரியாது. படம் பார்த்துவிட்டு, சக டெக்னீஷியன்கள் படம் எப்படி என்று அபிப்பிராயம் சொல்வார்கள். கேட்போம் என்று போனேன். படம் முடிந்துவிட்டது என்று தெரிந்தது.

அந்தத் தியேட்டரில் நாலு பேர் போகக்கூடிய லிஃப்ட் இருந்தது. ஏறி கதவு சார்த்தி இரண்டாவது மாடி குமிழ் அழுத்த, பெட்டி உயரே நகர்ந்தது, லிஃப்ட் இரண்டாவது மாடி தொட்டது. மாடியில் சிரிப்புச் சத்தம் கேட்டது.

கதவு திறக்க, ரஜினிகாந்த். நான் வெளியே வர முயல, ரஜினி என்னை மறுபடி லிஃப்டுக்குள் தள்ளினார். “பாலகுமார் சார்... க்ளாஸ்... ஏக்ளாஸ் படம், ரொம்ப நல்லா வந்துருக்கு” கைகுலுக்கினார். அவரும் இன்னொரு நண்பரும் உள்ளே வர, லிஃப்ட் கதவு சார்த்தி தரை நோக்கி போகும் குமிழை அந்த நண்பர் அழுத்த, லிஃப்ட் கீழிறங்கத் தொடங்கியது. ஐந்தடிக்கு ஐந்தடிபெட்டியில், அவர் மூச்சு என்மீது படும் அளவு நெருக்கமாய் நின்று படம் பற்றி சில வாக்கியங்கள் சொன்னார். என் காதில் ஏறவில்லை. எல்லாம் பாராட்டுக்கள் என்று தெரிந்தது. ஆனால், மனசுள் வாங்கவில்லை.

மற்ற நண்பர்கள் தியேட்டர் வாசலில் பாராட்டினார்கள். இன்னொரு காட்சி ப்ரிவியூ தியேட்டரில் ஆரம்பமாக, வீடு திரும்பினேன்.

“ரஜினி வீட்டுலேர்ந்து போன் வந்தது... ஜெயராம் கேட்டாரு உங்களை”... வீட்டில் கூறினார்கள்.

“அப்படியா... இப்பதானே பேசிட்டு வரேன்.” நான் எண்களைச் சுழற்றினேன். ரஜினியின் உதவியாளர் ஜெயராம் போனை எடுத்தார். “அண்ணன் பேசணும்னார் சார்” ஒரு நிமிஷம், சில விநாடிகள் நகர்ந்தன. “ஹலோ பாலகுமார் சார்... பிரமாதமா பண்ணிட்டீங்க... அங்க நிறைய பேச முடியவில்லை, வாசல்ல கும்பல் ஜாஸ்தியாயிடுச்சு. அடுத்த ஷோ நம்மால ஜாம் ஆயிடக்கூடாதுன்னு வண்டியேறிட்டேன். படத்துல பல இடங்கள் தனியா தெரிஞ்சுது. ஷங்கர் யாரு... யார்கிட்ட இருந்தாரு”. பத்து நிமிடங்கள் படத்தின் பல சிறப்புகள் பற்றிப் பேசி.. மனதாரப் பாராட்டி.. வாய் விட்டு சிரித்து.. அப்படியானால் வெறுமே எதிர்ப்பட்டதால் வெளிவந்த பாராட்டில்லையா... உண்மையாகவே என் வேலை பிடித்திருக்கிறதா... இது மனசு திறந்த பாராட்டா...சக தொழிலாளியைக் கட்டிப் பிடித்து உற்சாகமூட்டும் செயலா.

சினிமா ஒரு டீம் ஓர்க்...

இதனால் சில சங்கடங்கள் உண்டு. நாவலில் கிடைக்கிற தனித்துவம் சினிமாவில் எவருக்கும் கிடையாது. ஒரு காட்சி அமைப்பு, காமிரா, நடிக நடிகையரின் மேக்கப்; செட் ப்ராப்பர்டி, லொகேஷன் போன்றவையும் காரணமாய் இருக்கலாம். ஒரு நல்ல காட்சி வசன பலமின்மையால், வசன பலமிருந்தாலும் காமிரா கோணம் சரியின்மையால் காமிரா, வசனம் சரியாய் இருப்பினும் நடிகர் உணர்ந்து செயலாற்றாததால்; நடிப்பு, காமிரா, வசனம், சரியாய் இருப்பினும் எடிட்டரின் கவனக்குறைவால் சிதையலாம்.

சினிமா ஒரு நெட்டி வேலை...

ஒரு நெட்டி பொம்மையை, கோவில் கட்டடம் போன்ற நெட்டி பொம்மையை நூறு பேர் சேர்ந்து செய்யும் வேலை. ரஜினி தனித்தனியே எல்லோரையும் என்னிடம் பாராட்டினார். “ எனக்கு டைரக்டர் நம்பர் தெரியாது. அதனால் உங்ககிட்ட என் பாராட்டைச் சொல்றேன். ஷங்கர் கிட்டே என் பாராட்டை சொல்லுங்க”.

நண்பர் ரஜினிகாந்தின் பாராட்டு பற்றி யூனிட்டில் சொல்ல, அங்கே பலபேருடைய முகம் மலர்ந்து.. மகிழ்ந்து மறுபடி என்னைச் சொல்லச்சொல்லி கேட்டு புளகாங்கிதமடைவதை நான் உணர்ந்தேன். ரஜினிகாந்த் இங்குள்ள சினிமா கலைஞர்களுக்கு அவ்வளவு முக்கியம். அவர் பாராட்டு மிகப்பெரிய பெருமை.

சினிமாவில் ஒரு வெற்றிப் படத்தை இப்படி மனம் நிறைய பாராட்டுபவர்கள் மிகக்குறைவு. ப்ரிவியூ தியேட்டரில் நான் பல முகங்களை உற்றுக் கவனித்திருக்கிறேன். “படம் ரொம்ப நல்லா வந்துருக்கு. நிச்சயம் நூறு நாள் கவலையேபடாதீங்க”. டைரக்டரிடம் கைகுலுக்கிவிட்டு, தியேட்டர் தாண்டி தெருவுக்கு வந்ததும், எப்படி படம் என்று எதிர்ப்பட்டவர் கேட்க, “ஊத்திக்கிச்சு. ஊத்திக்கிச்சு” என்று நீட்டி முழக்கி சிரிப்பவர்களை கண்டிருக்கிறேன்.

‘கிட்டதட்ட இதே ஸ்டோரி நான் சொன்னேன். எவனும் கேட்கலை, இப்ப அதே கதையே வச்சு சக்ஸஸ் ஆக்கிட்டாம் பார்...’

“சக்ஸஸுன்றே...”

“அட, நாப்பது நாள் ஓடும்பா...பாட்டு சரியா அமைஞ்சு போச்சு. நடிகர் சரியா அமைஞ்சு போச்சு.. வசனம் கூட சரியா வுழுந்துடுச்சுப்பா”. இந்த வெற்றி, பிறர் திறமை என்பது ஏற்காமல், தெய்வச் செயல், எதேச்சை என்று பாராட்டும் பாதி மனங்களை கண்டிருக்கிறேன்.

ரஜினி முழுமையானவர்...

பிறகு ஒருநாள் அவரிடம், நீங்கள் இத்தனை மனமுவந்து பாராட்டிப் பேசுவீர்கள் என்று நினைக்கவேயில்லை என்று சொல்ல, சிரித்தார் ,நிதானமாய் பேசினார். “சினிமாவில் ஒரு படம்கூட ஃபெயிலியர் ஆகக்கூடாது. சுமாரான படத்தைக் கூட நல்லா பாராட்டணும். நல்ல படத்தை வாய்விட்டு மனசார பலமுறை பாராட்டணும். அந்தப் பாராட்டால இன்னும் நாலு நல்ல படம் சம்பந்தபட்டவங்க தரணும். சினிமா இன்டஸ்ட்ரில ஒரு படம் கூட ஃப்பெயிலியர் ஆகக்கூடாது. அது யார் படமா இருந்தாலும் சரி... என்னவிதமான படமா இருந்தாலும் சரி...”

தனக்கு ஒரு கண் போனாலும்,பிறருக்கு இரண்டு கண்களும் போக வேண்டும் என்று வேண்டும் உலகத்தில் இந்த மனிதர் வித்தியாசமானவர்.

எதனால் இப்படி.. பலபேருக்கு இல்லாத இந்தத் தெளிவு ரஜினி எப்படி வந்தது. “இது மொத்தமும் ட்ராமா, இந்த நடிகன் அந்தஸ்து, பணம், புகழ், கைதட்டல், பூமாலை, பூத்தூவல் எல்லாம் நாடகம். இந்த நாடகத்துக்கு வேற யாரோ ஒருத்தர் தான் டைரக்டர்.

இந்த உலகத்துல உங்களுக்கு ரைட்டர் வேஷம். எனக்கு நடிகன் வேஷம். அவருக்கு மேக்கப் மேன் வேஷம். கொடுத்த வேஷத்தை டைரக்டர் திருப்தி ஆகற மாதிரி செய்யணும். அந்த டைரக்டர் பேரு கடவுள், ஆண்டவர், அல்லா, ராம், சிவா, புத்தன், விஷ்ணு எதாவது வச்சுக்கலாம். எல்லாப்பணமும், புகழும் ட்ராமா, நாடகம், இது நானில்லை.”

ஒரு நாள் ரஜினி பேச, எனக்கு கேள்வி வந்தது,

ரஜினி புரிந்து பேசுகிறாரா.. இல்லை, எவரேனும் பேசியது கேட்டு பேசுகிறாரா.. சந்தேகம் வந்தது.

சந்தேகம் வந்தபோது மனசு சட்டென்று வெகுதூரம் பின்னோக்கிப் போயிற்று.

தர்மயுத்தம் படப்பிடிப்பு நடந்து கொண்டிருந்த போது எனக்கு ரஜினிகாந்த் அவர்களோடு பழக்கம் ஏற்பட்டது. ரஜினிகாந்தின் பரபரப்பான நேரம் அது. வெற்றிகள் அவரை நோக்கி வந்து கொண்டிருந்தன. ஏதோ ஒரு விதத்தில் அவர் எல்லோராலும் கவரப்பட்டார். அவரைப் பற்றிய கிசுகிசுக்கள் உச்சக்கட்டம் அடைந்திருந்த காலம் அது.

சாவி பத்திரிக்கையின் சார்பாய் அவரை பேட்டி காணச் சென்றிருந்தேன். காலை எட்டு மணி இருக்கும்.

“டிபன் சாப்பிட்டீங்களா”. ரஜினி கேட்டார்.
“இல்லை”.

“கார் எங்கே’- தேடினார்.
அவருடைய கார் எங்கேயோ போயிருந்தது.
“எதில் வந்திருக்கிறீர்கள்”.
“ஸ்கூட்டர்”
“வாங்க போவோம்”

நான் வண்டியை ஸ்டார்ட் செய்ய, ரஜினிகாந்த் என்னிடமிருந்து வண்டியை வாங்கிக் கொண்டார். நான் பிலியனில் ஏறிக் கொள்ள, வண்டியை அவர் ஓட்டினார். டிரைவ்-இன் ஓட்டலுக்கு வண்டி போயிற்று,

கூட்டம் அதிகமில்லாத அந்த நேரத்தில் நிறைய மனம் விட்டுப் பேசினார். அவர் பேசிய விஷயங்கள் பலது எனக்கு இன்னும் நினைவில் இருக்கின்றன. என் வாழ்க்கையில் அந்தப் பேச்சுகள் மிகவும் உதவின. அவர் சொன்ன நேரடி வாக்கியங்கள் நினைவில் இல்லை. அதனால் அதன் சாராம்சம் சொல்கிறேன்.


“எவர் உயர்ந்தாலும், உன்னதமான நிலைக்கு வந்தாலும் அவரைத் தூற்ற, அந்த நிலையிலிருந்து அவரைச் சாய்க்க, உலகத்தின் ஒரு பகுதி கடுமையாய் முயலும், அதுவும் மிகச் சாதாரணமாய் இருந்தவர் முன்னேறினால் அவருக்கு எதிரிகள் உடனே உருவாகி விடுவார்கள்.

தனக்கு யோக்கியதை இருந்தும் உயர்வு கிடைக்கவில்லை. யோக்கியதை இல்லாத இவனுக்குக் கிடைத்து விட்டது என்று சிலர் பொறாமைப்படுவார்கள். இவ்வளவு உயரத்துக்கு இவர் வந்துடுவார்னு அன்னிக்கே தெரிஞ்சிருந்தா இன்னும் க்ளோசா ஒட்டிட்டிருந்திருப்பேனே. தெரியாத போயிடுத்து. இப்ப ஓட்ட ட்ரை பண்ணுவோம். ஒட்டவிடலைன்னா தொந்தரவு பண்ணுவோம். எனக்கு தெரியும்டா உன்னைப் பத்தி, என்கிட்ட டீ வாங்கி குடிச்சவந்தான் என்று சொல்லி எரிச்சல் மூட்டுவோம் என்று வேறு சிலர் முயல்வார்கள்.

கண்டக்டரா, கன்னடமா, தமிழ், இங்கிலீஷ், ஃப்ரெஞ்ச் எதுவும் தெரியாதா. டான்ஸ் வராதா...நாவல் படிக்கிற பழக்கம் இல்லையா. ஸ்கேட்டிங், ரைஃபிள் ஷுட்டிங். ஒண்ணும் தெரியாதா. பின்ன எப்படி இவ்வளவு உயரத்துல. ஏதோ குருட்டு அதிர்ஷ்டமா. நமக்குத் தெரிஞ்சதெல்லாம் அவுத்துவிட்டு உனக்கு என்ன தெரியலை பார்னு குழப்பி வுட்டுரலாம். இப்படியும் சிலர் முயல்வார்கள்.

இவர்கள் எல்லோரையும் அமைதியாய் அதிகம் எதிர்ப்பு காட்டாது சமாளித்தாக வேண்டும். அளவுக்கு மீறிய பொறுமை வேண்டும். பொறுமையே சிறிதும் இல்லாத நான் வன்முறையாய், வலுக்கட்டாயமாய் மெளனத்தை-அமைதியை வரவழைத்துக் கொள்கிறேன். சில சமயம் சிதறடித்து விடுகிறேன். நான் பெரிய தத்துவவாதியில்லை, நான் அதிகம் புத்தகம் படித்ததில்லை. ஆனால் இரவில் மனம் நொந்து புரண்டு படுக்கிறபோது எனக்கு நடந்த வேதனைகளின் வேர் எது என்று யோசிக்கிறபோது வாழ்க்கை மொத்தமும் பிடிபட்டுப் போவது போல் இருக்கிறது.

மனிதர்கள் ஆரம்பத்தில் இப்படித் தான் வேதனைப்படுத்துவார்கள். தாங்கிக் கொள் என்று தெளிவாய் தெரிகிறது. எதிர்த்தால் சரிவு நிச்சயம். அதனால் பிறர் ஹிம்சையைத் தாங்கி அமைதியாய் நமது அடுத்த வேலையைச் செய்ய.. இன்னும் உயர்வு வரும். மனிதர்கள் தாக்கவே முடியாத உயர்வுக்குப் போய்விட வேண்டும். அதற்கு வேறு எதிலும் கவனம் சிதறாது உழைக்கவேண்டும்.”


இது ரஜினிக்கு மட்டுமல்ல, பாலகுமாரனுக்கும் பொருந்தும். செய்யும் வேலைக்குக் கேலி வரும். அது மனிதர் குணம். நமக்கு அடுத்த வேலை தான் கவனம். கேலி சாதாரணம்.

வார்த்தைகளாய் அன்று இருந்த ரஜினி, வார்த்தைகளை உள்வாங்கி ஜெயித்திருக்கிறார். உங்களுக்கு இது அது தெரியுமா எனக் கேட்டு, இழிவுபடுத்துவார்கள் என்று நினைத்த ரஜினிகாந்த், இன்று சித்தர்கள் பாடல் பற்றி சொல்லச் சொல்லி கேட்கிறார். ஓஷோ என்கிற பகவான் ரஜனீஷ் தத்துவங்கள் பற்றி படிக்கிறார். ரமணர் வாழ்க்கை பற்றியும், வாக்கு பற்றியும் அதிகம் தெரிந்திருக்கிறார்.

தத்துவங்களைத் தெரிந்து வைத்துக் கொள்வது மட்டும் பெருமையான விஷயம் இல்லை. அவைகளை உள்வாங்கி ஒட்டி வாழ்தல் முக்கியம் என்பது புரிந்து வைத்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார். ரஜினிகாந்த் கோபப்படுவதில்லை. ஆனால் தீர்மனாமாய் இருக்கிறார்.

ரஜினிகாந்த் இனிமையாய் இருக்கிறார். ஆனால், எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் இணக்கமாய் இருந்து விடுவதில்லை. மனசு விட்டு பாராட்டுகிறார்.

‘பாலகுமார் சார், அந்த காலேஜ் அட்மிஷன் பத்தி யுவராணி பேசறாது நல்லாயிருந்தது.’

நான் அன்றைய ஷுட்டிங்கிற்கு எழுதிக் கொடுத்து விட்டு வேறு வேலைக்குப் போய் விட்டேன். ஆனாலும் கூப்பிட்டு பாராட்டி, “ரஜினி சார்.. நான் நேத்து ஷுட்டிங்க்கு வரலைன்றதுக்காக இப்படி கூப்பிட்டு பாராட்டறா மாதிரி..”

“கடவுளே.. மனசாரப் பாராட்டக் கூடாதா. ஏன் சந்தேகமாவே பார்க்கறீங்க. எனக்கு பிடிக்காத விஷயத்தை மூஞ்சிக்கு நேர சொல்லி விடுவேன்”.

“இதுவரைக்கும் சொன்னதில்லை”

“பிடிக்காதது எதுவும் இதுவரை உங்களாண்ட எனக்குத் தெரியலை. சொல்லலை”

ஆனால் சட்டென்று ஒருநாள் மெத்தென்ற குட்டு விழுந்தது.

“இந்த ஸீனை இப்படி ஆரம்பிச்சா என்ன..” அவர் சொல்ல ஆரம்பிக்க, அதனுடைய நூல் புரிந்து கொண்ட நான் அதே விதமாகவே யோசித்து வைத்திருந்த சந்தோஷத்தில் குறுக்கிட்டு, “க்ரெக்ட்.. இது சொன்னதுக்கப்புறம் அந்த டயலாக் தொடர்ச்சிய..”

சட்டென்று உற்றுப் பார்த்தார்.

“பாலகுமார் சார்.. உங்கக்கிட்ட ஒரு தப்பு இருக்கு.. சொல்லட்டா”.
“சொல்லுங்க சார்”.
“ஸ்பீட் ரொம்ப ஜாஸ்தி. இது தேவையில்லை. என்னை முழுக்கப் பேசவிடறதேயில்லை நீங்க. ஒரு இடம் தொட்டவுடனே மடமடன்னு கம்ப்யூட்டர் கணக்கா போயிடறீங்க. போலாம். தப்பில்லை. எதிராளியைப் பேசவிட்டு அப்புறம் உங்க நேரம் வரபோது பேசுங்க”.

“சரி சார். ஸீன் சொல்லுங்க”
சொன்னார். சொன்ன பிறகு கருத்து கேட்டார்.

அந்த ஸீன் ஆரம்பித்த விதம் பிடித்திருந்தது. முடித்த விதம் உறுத்தியது.
சொன்னேன்.

“பார்த்தீங்களா.. கரெக்ட்டுன்னு கத்தினீங்களே.. இப்ப இது திசைமாறி இருக்கறது புரியுதா”

“புரியுது சார்..” நான் ஸீனைத் தொடர்ந்து சிந்திக்க தள்ளிப் போனேன்.

அன்று போகும் முன் என்னைத் தேடி கை குலுக்கிவிட்டு முகத்தை உற்றுப் பார்த்து விட்டுப்போனார். அந்த வினாடி நேரத்தில் எனக்கு அவர் எண்ணம் புரிந்தது.

“புத்தி சொல்வது போல் எங்கோ உங்கள் மனதை மிதித்து விட்டேனா. ஆமெனில் மன்னிக்க,” முகம் பேசியது. மறுநாள் நேரடியாய் வாய் வார்த்தையாகவும் சொல்லப்பட்டது.

“ஆமா.. பாலகுமார் சார். என்னைப் பத்தி என்ன நினைக்கறீங்க. என்கிட்ட ஏதாவது குறை இருக்கா”. ஒருநாள் கேட்டார்.

நான் சொன்னேன்.

We must have heard a lot of stories about the good hearted and down to earth nature of our Superstar. Now another new update about his patience and humble heart...

We all know that Shankar's ‘Endhiran’ shoot was going on in Chennai at many places, once it happened even on the famous Kathipara Bridge. The director wrapped-up the shots that are supposed to be taken with Rajini earlier but requested the actor to stay for some more time to take few close-up shots of his hands.

Sources said that the director finished off other close-up shots of shoulders and hip with dupes. He requested the Superstar to wait until he finishes other shots. Whatta patient and simple man is our Superstar! He has stayed on and completed the shots and gave full cooperation to the team, they say.

Rajini and Kamal to get their awards
December 07, 2009

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan will receive the State award under the best actor category on December 8, 2009. While Rajini will receive the award for his performance in Sivaji, Kamal gets the award for Dasavatharam. The function is to be held at the University of Madras Centenary Auditorium in which the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M Karunanidhi will hand over the awards to the actors, directors and technicians.

For the year 2007, the best film award goes to Sivaji. The second and third awards have been bagged by Mozhi and Pallikoodam. A special prize goes to Periyar.

For the year 2008, Dasavatharam has been selected as the best film. While Abhiyum Naanum has bagged the second prize, Santhosh Subramaniam will be awarded the third prize. Meiporul bagged the special prize.

"அன்று கூடுவாஞ்சேரியில் 'காளி' படப்பிடிப்பிற்குச் செல்லும்-போது யோசித்துக்கொண்டே போனேன். காரணம், அதற்கு முந்-திய நாள் நெருப்பின் நடுவே நான் குதிரைச் சவாரி செய்வது போலப் படம் எடுத்தார்கள். ஓரளவு குதிரை சவாரி செய்யத் தெரிந்த நான், சுற்றி எரியும் நெருப்பாலோ என்னவோ பயந்து, ஒரு கையால் கடிவாளத்தையும் மற்றொரு கையால் நான் அமர்ந்-திருந்த ஸாடிஸயும் (சேணத்தையும்) பிடித்துக்கொண்டேன்.

சே! இவ்வளவு பழக்கம் இருந்தும் இப்படி சேணத்தைப் பிடித்துக் கொண்டோமே என்று வருந்தினேன். போனதும் டைரக்டரிடம் சொல்லி 'ரீடேக்' எடுக்கச் சொல்ல வேண்டும் என்று நினைத்துப் போனேன்.

அங்கு சென்றதும் நான் சிலையா-னேன்!



சில ஸ்டண்ட் நடிகர்களும், சில குதிரைகளும் தீயில் சிக்கிக் கருகிப் போயிருந்தனர். நல்லவேளை, நடிகர்-கள் உயிருக்குச் சேதமில்லை. போன வேகத்தில் அவர்களைத் தூக்கிப் போட்டுக்கொண்டு, விஜயா நர்-ஸிங் ஹோம் வந்தோம்.

எனக்குப் பழக்கமான ஹாஸ்பிடல் - டாக்டர்கள். அவர்களிடம் சொல்லி சிகிச்-சைக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்தோம்.

ஐந்து நிமிடம் கூடுவாஞ்சேரிக்குத் தாமதமாக நான் போனதால், அந்த விபத்திலிருந்து தப்பினேன்.

விபத்தில் சிக்கிக்கொண்ட என் சக (ஸ்டண்ட்) நடிகர்களுக்காக வருந்தினேன். இறைவனைப் பிரார்த்-தித்தேன். ஏதோ என்னால் ஆன பண உதவியும் செய்தேன்.

இருந்தாலும் இதுபோல விபத்துக்-குள்ளாகும் நடிகர்களின் எதிர்காலம் என்ன? அவர்களுக்கு யார் உதவு-வார்கள்? ஐயா! ஒரு ஸ்டண்ட் நடிகருக்கு ஷூட்டிங்கின்போது ஏதோ விபரீதம் ஆகிவிட்டது... டச் உட்! அவர்கள் குடும்பத்தை யார் காப்-பாற்-றுவார்கள்?

இதற்கு ஏதாவது இன்ஷூரன்ஸோ அல்லது அவர்கள் சங்கம் நிதி வசூலித்தோ அல்லது அவர்களைக் கூப்பிடும் தயாரிப்பாளர்கள் ஏதாவது விபத்து இன்ஷூரன்ஸோ செய்ய வேண்டும். யாராவது பொறுப்பேற்று ஒரு வழி வகுக்க வேண்டும்.

Superstar yaar'nu kEtta - the first ever thalaivar song that I listened to, during my Kindergarten. Hmmm. 4 years.

That's exactly when I got to know about 'Superstar' . From then on, I knew him more as 'Superstar' than as 'Rajnikanth' (romba poruthamA thaan lyrics ezhudhi irukkanga :clap: ). Years have gone but the craze remains the same. My thalaivar is the same. Everything is still fresh as it was when i was a 4yr old.

Do you really know who is the highest paid actor in India? Well you may think that it is Amir Khan, Shahrukh Khan or Salmnan Khan. Wrong, dead wrong. The highest paid Indian actor is not even an actor in Bollywood. He is in South India. His name is Rajnikanth and he is like a demi God to his fans. In earning money, he is perhaps just next to Jackie Chan in Asia.


Rajnikanth is one of the best actors ever seen in the history of Indian film. This veteran figure of theater is best known for his Tamil and Telegu films. His talent and charismatic appearance on the screen made him very popular in Tamil Nadu state of India. Rajni is also best known for some of his styles and dialogues in different movies. Rajnikanth, being at his 59, is still acting as the central character of movies which is a rare case in any film industry of any country. Later, this year (2006), he got the RS 16 core for his recent movie named Sivaji The Boss which gives him the prestige of being the highest paid Indian actor among any other film industry in India. Not even in bollywood, an artist gets such a big amount. The highest paid bollywood star Amir Khan gets around RS 7 crores. The most important, he also bagged the second position in terms of the highest paid actors in Asia after Jackie Chan.


Rajnikanth, the unofficial king of southern film, was born to Ramabai and Ramoji Rao Gaekwad as their fourth child in Karnataka, India on 12 December, 1949. His real name is Sivaji Rao Gaekwad which was changed by the director K. Balachander, the director of Rajni’s first movie, Apoorva Raagangal (1975). The financial position of his family was not very good. He lost his mother when he was 5. His father was a police constable. Before entering in the film career he experienced the harsh reality of life as he had to do some odd jobs including as a bus conductor. His first school was Acharya Patasala in Bangalore and then he also got admitted at the Vivekananda Balak Sangh, an institution under the control of Ramakrishna Mission. It is a bit interesting that though Marathi is his native language, he has not starred in any Marathi movie in his entire film career.


Rajni got admitted in Madras Film Institute taking help from one of his friends and in 1974 he could complete a basic acting course when he was 25. With the experience of this course he set out for a big journey towards the film industry. With his acting power and uniqueness, he could make a distinct position in the southern films.


His debutant film was ‘Apoorva Raaganga’ in Tamil language directed by K. Balachander. Earlier in his career he was used to play in the supporting role and villainous roles. After four years of entering the film career, in 1979, he first got chance to act in a positive role in ‘Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri’. In Kannada language his first movie was ‘Katha Sangram’ which was his second movie in his career. In the ninety’s his Mutu, Basha was very successful and in those movies some of his legendary punch dialogues are still seen to be uttered among the fans. In the film ‘Mutu’ his dialogue “When I will come, or how I will come, nobody will know, but I will come when I ought to come” and in the ‘Basha’, "If i say it once, I've said it a hundred times” are still remembered.

Besides these southern movies he also acted in some films of Hindi and Bengali languages. For his only English movie named ‘Bloodstone’, he got Best Achiever Award in Cinema Express Tamil Nadu.


His last movie ‘Chandramukhi’ earned RS 50 crore at the box office which is highest in Tamil Nadu. In this movie Rajni got RS 10 crore. Before ‘Chandramukhi’, his movie ‘Baba’ could earn 20 crore at the box office which was not successful considering Rajni’s standard.


Rajni was not an actor for a particular segment of fans. In his glorious career he acted in different kind of movies in different roles. For instance, in his 100th movie named ‘Sri Raghavendra’ he played the role of a Hindu saint. His comedy movie ‘Thillu Mullu’ was very successful. He also extended his feat in some of the action based family movies such as Velaikkaran and Manidhan etc. It might be his best quality that he can manage to cope up with any character given to him and his specialty as an actor lies in the point that he started his career through playing in villainous roles and later on he became successful in playing in central character or hero like roles. It is very hard for an actor to become successful in central character who started his career playing in villainous roles. This proves his quality and skill he has in acting.


Another thing that I think most important to measure his greatness is that he came into light through Tamil, Telegu and kannada movies which are belongs to Tamil Nadu states and due to the language problem it is not possible to make a Tamil movie universal in all over the India. It is true that movies can be translated in other languages but initially the target spectators and fans of these films are not beyond the Tamil Nadu. So, one does not need to be Einstein to understand that the market and investments of Tamil movies are less than that of Bollywood. However, Rajni and producers of his movies do not go for that calculation and both producers and Rajni are happy to make a deal of such a high amount which is still a dream-like amount in Bollywood. It is Rajni who himself can be a great advertisement of any southern movies where people do not bother about the director or actress; it is all about Rajni. Rajni is the best example of measuring how influential an actor can be for a film industry.


In his personal life, he married Latha in 1981. This couple has two daughters- Aishwarya and Soundarya. Rajni was also involved in politics on the urge of fans but could not be successful as he is in film industry.



This legendary actor was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2000. He was also named as one of the influential persons in South Asia by Asiaweek. He got Filmfare Best Actor Award, South twice.

The matinee idol of Indian film industry, Rajinikanth, turned 60 yesterday. There were celebrations by his fans, fan clubs, welfare associations run in his name and his friends. Media, especially TV channels and FMs, dished out a lot of programmes on the superstar.
Generally, film stars worry about their image, and coming to revealing of their age, they would keep a lid on it. Here’s one who cares a little on that and just comes out even without make up, his semi bald-head and grey hair showing. He wants to be realistic.

He is simple, spiritual and stylish combined in one. And a down-to-earth film star. It is perhaps his rags-to-riches story makes the superstar a favourite of the masses. Such a colossus of a personality, he has a huge fan-following, post MGR- Sivaji era. He is best known for his mass popularity and appeal, largely drawn from his mannerisms and stylized delivery of dialogue in films.

Rajini does not want mislead his fans, take advantage of them or exploit them. He downplays even his birthdays. Usually, on his birthdays Rajinikanth would escape from the fanfare and hysteria whipped up by his fans in Chennai, to unknown Himalayan destinations for solitude and introspection, but this year he is very much at home.

His completing sixty is a land mark, still Rajini has not given call for a big celebration and all. Instead he sent out message, don’t rush to Chennai to greet him. That is his greatness. Last year, it is to be noted that the actor beseeched his fans to stay away from any celebrations considering the sufferings of Tamils in neighboring Sri Lanka. And he left for Hyderabad to take part in the shooting of his animation movie directed by his daughter Soundarya.

This year too, office bearers of the Superstar's fans club have asked fans not to come to Chennai to greet Rajini, as he will be out of town.

Film sources said a grand homam was performed by family members of Rajinikanth in which the top actor's wife Latha, daughters Aishwarya and Soundarya, son-in-law Dhanush and grandson Yathra took part. Vedic scholars performed poojas by chanting hymns as part of the 'Mruthyunjay Homam', they added.

His family and close friends have organized a Shashitabadapoorthi puja (60th birthday celebrations) at the famous Tirukkadiyur temple near Tiruchi.

Individual fans and artist who are close to him like Lawrence and director SP Muthuraman conducted their own “feeding the poor” programmes at Choolaimedu.

Nothing stopping Rajini’s fans from celebrating. His birthday this year is double joy for them, as the superstar is stepping into his 60th year. And they also plan to celebrate 'Rajini-60' in a grand way.

Fans of the star in Sholinghur, a temple town in Vellore district, have come out with a book full of colourful paintings that depict Rajini as a revolutionary who would bring social equality for all.The book, ‘Rajini 60’, compiled by the fan club, captures different moods of the actor.

Besides, Rajini Fans Club has also decided to help fans belonging to poor families by taking life insurance policies for a sum of Rs 1.50 lakh in their names. The fans club would pay the premium amount for the beneficiaries of the scheme.

Not just in Sholinghur, but fans all over the country and abroad are planning big to celebrate their big day. "There will be various welfare activists and health camps. Special poojas were be performed in temples," say a fan club office-bearer.

Rajini fans chose to celebrate the day in a big manner in Karnataka, Kerala, few parts of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, according to newspaper reports. Reports say that in UK, USA, Canada, Japan, China and Australia too, Rajini fans greeted each other.

Fans of Rajinikanth celebrated his birthday by performing milk abhishekams to his banners and distributing sweets.

Not just fans, it is also the media in this part of the world going the whole hog to celebrate the birthday of Superstar Rajinikanth. Right from this morning, television channels and FM Radios have been airing special programmes to mark the day.

There are chat shows on FMs where fans express their views on the top actor while interacting with RJs. Music channels are full of songs featuring the Superstar, besides cashing in on by displaying SMSes from fans greeting Rajini.

There are also Rajinikanth starrer blockbusters on many television channels today to amuse fans on their Thalaivar’s birthday. Coming to the print media, most of the newspapers and magazines published special stories on the matinee idol. And what more? Web portals, the inevitable part of the new media, are carrying features and articles on Rajini (like this one you are reading now).

Fans call to Rajini to enter politics

Voices asking Superstar Rajinikanth to enter politics are high on air once again. Posters and banners requesting the matinee idol to test political waters are seen all over Tamil Nadu, on the occasion of his 60th birthday.

A mega size poster in many parts of Chennai had graphical work featuring Rajini sitting in the State Assembly, while the Governor is reading out a message.

'Thalaiva Va', 'Naalaiya Thamizhagam', '2010-il Arasiyal, 2011-il Aatchi' were some of the slogans that were present on banners and posters in many parts of the State.

A special annadhanam and laddu distribution took place on Saturday morning at the TTD Centre in T Nagar. Besides fans of Rajini in Thiruvallur district, donoted blood, organs and eyes, 60 persons each tdo mark Rajini’s 6oth year.

Welfare activities including note book distribution to students were carried out by Rajini fans associations at various places including ECR and OMR Roads, besides several suburban areas like Pallavaram, Thambaram, Ambattur and Avadi.

Celebrations at the districts of Tamil Nadu surpassed that of Chennai. Avid fans gathered at various district headquarters to put up huge hoardings wishing the Superstar besides bursting crackers and distributing sweets. Vociferous celebrations were reported from Trichy, Madurai, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli and other places.

His touch and go in politics

In 1995 Rajinikanth announced that he is willing to support the Congress party after meeting Narasimha Rao, the then Prime Minister. Opinion polls then predicted that Congress with Rajinikanth support may win up to 130 seats in Tamil Nadu Assembly.

In 1996, when the Congress Party decided to align with AIADMK, Rajinikanth supported DMK-TMC alliance. The TMC used a bicycle as their election symbol and used an image of Rajinikanth riding a bicycle from the film “Annamalai” in their posters.

Rajinikanth’s saying "Even God cannot save Tamil Nadu if AIADMK returns to power," was a catch word for elections then. Rajinikanth wholeheartedly supported the DMK and TMC alliance and asked the people of Tamil Nadu and his fans to vote for that alliance. This alliance had a complete victory in 1996. He supported the DMK-TMC alliance in parliamentary elections the same year.

In 2008 when a few of his enthusiastic fans in Coimbatore started their own political party in the name of Rajinikanth and introduced their own flags and symbols for the party, the actor wrote an open letter to the press and declared that he had no connection with these events and has strictly warned fans not to indulge in such activities, and failing to adhere would cause him to take up legal action against them.

He also mentioned that he was not interested in politics. He also added that nobody can force him to enter politics, as clear as the fact that none can stop him from entering it at the right time too.

In 2002 Rajinikanth undertook a day-long fast to protest Karnataka's decision to not to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. and announced that he would contribute Rs.10 million towards interlinking of Indian rivers scheme. He met Prime Minister Vajpayee and many experts to canvass support for interlinking Indian rivers scheme.

His dialogue lines stay on with youth

Rajni who followed the Sivaji style of acting developed his own style of acting in no time. In “16 Vayathinile”, his frequently used the dialogue “Idhu Eppadi Irrukku’ which means “How is it?’ became a style with the youngsters.

Similarly all his punch dialogue became the favorite catch phrase of teenagers of those days. His “Seeviduvein Seevi’ in “Murattu Kalai”, “I’ll do what I say and say what I’ll do” in “Manithan” and “If I say once, it is like 100 times” and "Andavan Solraan. Arunachalam Mudikiraan." (God proposes. Arunachalam disposes). boosted the energy of his fans. `Arul' too has a similar line: "Aniyayam Panna Andavanukku Porukaathu, Asingamapesina Arulukku Pudikaathu." (God can't tolerate injustice. Arul can't tolerate bad language). All these words were on the lips of his fans.

Rajini made a long way up Introduced by Director K. Balachander, Rajinikanth, captivated the audience with his individualistic style and dialogues that were delivered with a twist, in the film “Apoorva Raagangal’.

Minutes after the young man named Shivaji Rao Gaekwad walked out of his office, legendary director K Balachander reportedly told an associate, “There is fire in this young man’s eyes. One day, he will take Tamil cinema by storm.”

The filmmaker’s words were bang on target. Today, more than three decades later, Rajinikanth is truly a phenomenon.

Rajinikanth debuted as an actor in 1975 in supporting roles. He was later favoured in portraying antagonistic characters and gradually rose to acting in lead roles. After the release of his role in film”Bhairavi” in 1978, he became known as the “Super Star” of Tamil cinema, which was the title given to him by film producer S. Thanu and till this date used by many people to refer to him.

He also appeared in the cinemas of other nations, including American cinema. He was paid Rs. 26 crores (approximately USD 6 million) for “Sivaji, the Boss”, making him the highest paid actor in Asia after Jackie Chan.

Rajinikanth was born as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad into a Marathi family in Bangalore in Karnataka. He was the fourth child of his parents, Jijabai and Ramojirao Gaekwad, a police constable. He lost his mother at the age of five. He attended elementary school at the Acharya Paathshala in Basavanagudi in Bangalore and then at the Vivekananda Balaka Sangha. Rajinikanth struggled a lot during his early age because of his family's low income. Although Marathi is his mother-tongue he has not yet acted in any Marathi films.

He worked with various jobs in Bangalore and also attended a theatre for stage plays. Before starting his career in the film industry, he used to practice stunts at the Rama Hanuman Temple at a hill near his house. He then primarily worked as a bus conductor in Bangalore. His charisma and style were noted by the passengers who travelled with him and gave him suggestions in becoming an actor. It was during this time that he nurtured his acting interests by performing in various stage plays.

Rajinikanth joined the South Indian Film Chamber’s Film Institute in 1974. he has acted in nearly 200 films, which includes Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, English and Bengali language films. Rajinikanth made his debut in Bollywood with “Andha Kanoon” but the film went on to become a poor grosser. His other Hindi films are “Chaalbaaz,” “Uttar Dakshin,” “ Giraftaar,” “ “Hum.”

He starred in the American film” Bloodstone” in 1988, which released with much fanfare in India, however, unsuccessful in the United States. He also made brief stints in the Japanese and German languge films. His 1995 film “ Muthu” was dubbed into Japanese while his 2005 film “Chandramukhi” was dubbed in German and released in all German-speaking nations.

Rajinikanth's first film in Tamil was “Apoorva Rahangal” where he was initially casted in supporting rolein 1975. The film was directed by K. Balachander, whom he is constantly referring as his own "guru" or mentor.]The following year, Rajinikanth acted in his first Kannada film “Katha Sangama”directed by Puttanna Kanagal. It was director SP Muthuraman who actually revamped Rajinikanth’s image entirely. Muthuraman first experimented with him in a positive role in “Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri” in 1977, as a villain in the first half of the film and a protagonist in the second. Around this time “Mullum Malarum” (1978), directed by J Mahendran, established Rajinikanth in the Tamil film arena as a film hero.

The success of Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri prompted Muthuraman to make a mushy melodrama with Rajinikanth as a hero sacrificing everything for his siblings in “Aarilirunthu Arupathu Varai (1979). These films were the turning points in Rajinikanth’s career; he changed from an actor who merely enthralled the audiences to one who could also evoke emotions. The acceptance of Rajinikanth sans his stylized mannerisms proved he had at last become a "star" from a "common actor." His film roles were mainly as a villain during the period 1975 to 1977, co-starring frequently with Kamal Hasan as the protagonist, in movies like “16 Vayathinele”, “ Mppndru Mudichu” and “Avargal”.

Rajinikanth abruptly chose to quit acting, after 1978. But he was coaxed back. He took up the blockbuster Tamil film ”Billa”, which was a remake of the Hindi movie “Don”. With its phenomenal success he was accepted as a full-fledged hero. This was followed by a row of hits, namely ‘Murattu Kalai,’ ‘ Pokkiri Raja’, ‘Thanikattu Raja’, ‘ Naan Mahan Alla’, ‘Pudikavithai’, and ‘Moondru Mogam’

K. Balachander’s first home production, “Netrikann” proved to be yet another milestone in Rajni’s career. He acted in his first cameo in the movie” anbculla Rajinikanth” (1984). More box-office hits dominated the 80's with’ Padikathavan’, ‘Thee’, ‘Velaikaran’, ‘Dharemathin TDhalaivan’ ‘Mrs.Bharath’ and ‘Maaveeran’. In his 100th movie, “Sri Ragdavendra”, he played the Hindu saint Ragavendra Swami..

The movies released during 1989 included ”Thalapathy’, ‘Mannan’, ‘Annamalai’ ‘Uzhaipali’, ‘Veera’, ‘Baasha’ (1995), ‘Muthu’, ‘arunachalam’ and ‘Padayappa’.

Rajinikanth wrote his first screenplay and acted as a special appearance in the film”Valli” (1993).. His film ”Muthu” was the first Tamil film to be dubbed into Japanese as “Muthu: The Dancing Maharajah” and became very popular in Japan.

His “Chandramukhi” film released in April 2005, created a new box office records such as being the longest running Tamil film, as of 2007. The he acted in AVM Productions’ “Sivaji: The Boss” which went on to become ranked among other major Bollywood and Hollywood releases of the year. The film charted as one of the top-ten best films of United Kingdom and South Africa box-offices upon release.

When his starrer “Kuselan”, a remake of the Malayalam film “Katha Parayambol”, in which Rajinikanth played a cameo role as himself, a star in the Indian film industry, and as a best friend to the main character, incurred major losses Rajinikanth voluntarily settled the distributors from his budget..

Awards and honours

He received India's third highest honour, the Padma Bhushan in 2000 from Government of India for his contribution to Indian cinema. Last week he received the Best Actor award for the year 2007 from the Tamil Nadu State Films award from the hands of Chief Minister Karunanidhi. Rajinikanth was named as one of the influential persons in South Asia by Asiaweek. He won Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1984 for “ Nallavanukku Nallavan” and for “Muthu” in 1994.

He has also received other honours such as the Raj Kapoor Award in 2007 from the Government of Maharashtra. In September 2005, Rajinikanth won the Tamilnadu state best actor Award for his role in “Chandramukhi”. In 2008 he was selected as the Indian Entertainer of the Year for 2007 by NDTV, competing against the likes of Shahrukh Khan.

Between 1977 and 2005, Rajinikanth received several awards from Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and Filmfare awards. Cinema Express and Film fans Association for his on-screen performances and off-screen contributions in writing and producing. He has received awards in the Best Actor category for his performance in the films.

He married Latha Rangachari, on 26 February 1981, at the age of 31 and they have two daughters named Aiswarya and Soundarya. Latha Rajinikanth, his wife, currently runs a school named The Ashram. His elder daughter Aishwarya is married actor Dhanush on 18 November 2004 and they have one son named Yathra. His second daughter, Soundarya works in the film industry as director, producer and graphic designer.

He is shooting for ‘Robot’ with Aishwarya in and around Lonavala and dropped in for a chat. He still remains that most unassuming down to earth basic human, that I had the great pleasure of meeting at the AVM Studios in Chennai many many years ago. It has been a long association of friendship and professional camaraderie. Many films have we worked together in and been rewarded with success and many an evening has been spent together, talking about our craft and about life !

Today was no different. He had seen ‘Paa’. I had organized it for him to see it at a private theatre in Chennai and he was meeting me for the first time after that. He had wanted to speak immediately after the film got over, but somehow we were missing each other. His charming wife Lathaji had called and had profusely spoken about the film and how amazing the experience had been. Rajni was exuberant this morning. And we spoke for more than an hour on ‘Paa’. He said we are all upset after seeing the film, not so much because of the content and its emotional quotient, but because now that ‘you have done this, what are we going to do’.

It is such a joy to spend time with a member of your own fraternity and speak of nothing else but creative inputs, life and the world around us. And this morning was no different.

What an incredible life Rajni has had. From a struggling bus conductor checking tickets on public transports to this God-Like figure of immense fan following and mass strength. Absolutely amazing !! :clap:

..His simplicity is as profound as his on screen presence which literally sends his die hard fans into a state of frenzy. I recall watching the first day first show of his block buster Sivaji in Melbourne’s Palais theatre at St Kilda a couple of years back and this experience still remains with me. A kilometer stretch leading to the theatre was swarming with his fans waiting to get tickets for the show. Never before had I witnessed the southern diaspora on the roads unitedly in this fashion in the laid back city. Most of the tamil movies get released in Australia given the large number of tamils from India and Sri Lanka who have made Australia their home. Coming back to the movie, when Rajnikanth first appeared on screen there were coins and streamers whizzing past

my head and there were groups performing “aarthie” with their lighters. I have only read about these happenings in the past but to witness this phenomenon first hand was an experience. My thoughts at that time was, if one man could produce this passion in a land so far away, what would it be like in the heart of tamil nadu?...[/tscii:23c76acb49]

படம் நல்லா இல்லேன்னா யார் சொன்னாலும் ரசிகர்கள் பார்க்க மாட்டார்கள், தூக்கிப் போட்டு விடுவார்கள் என்றார் ரஜினிகாந்த்.

சரத்குமார்-ஸ்ரேயா நடிப்பில், ராதிகா தயாரித்த ஜக்குபாய் படம் வெளியாவதற்கு முன்பே இன்டர்நெட்டில் லீக்காகிவிட்டது.

இதனால் அதனுடைய டிவிடியும் மக்களுக்கு சர்வசாதாரணமாக கிடைக்க ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டது.

உடனே சரத்குமாரும் அவர் மனைவி ராதிகாவும் முதல்வரிடம் முறையிட்டனர். அவரது உத்தரவின்பேரில், ஒரு இணையதள உரிமையாளர் கோவையில் கைது செய்யப்பட்டார். டிவிடி விற்றவர்கள் கைது செய்யப்பட்டனர். டிவிடி விற்றவர்களில் ஒருவர் போலீஸ் மிரட்டலுக்கு பயந்து தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டார். நேற்று மாலை இன்னும் ஒருவரையும் கைது செய்தது போலீஸ்.

இந் நிலையில் திருட்டு விசிடி ஒழிப்பு குறித்த ஆலோசனைக் கூட்டம் மற்றும் பத்திரிகையாளர் சந்திப்பு இன்று காலை, சென்னை போர்பிரேம்ஸ் பிரிவியூ அரங்கில் நடந்தது.

இந்தக் கூட்டத்தில் திடீர் சர்ப்ரைஸாக ரஜினி மற்றும் கமல் பங்கேற்றனர்.

பத்திரிகையாளர் சந்திப்பில் பேசிய கமல், இந்த திருட்டு விசிடி விற்பதால் கிடைக்கும் பணம் தீவிரவாதச் செயல்களுக்குத்தான் துணை போகிறது. எனவே மக்கள் இதனைப் புறக்கணிக்க வேண்டும் என்றார்.

சேரன் நேற்று பேசியதன் தொடர்ச்சியாக இன்றும் ரசிகர்களை விட்டு விசிடி விற்பவர்களை வெட்டணும், ஒழிக்கணும் என்றார்.

திரையுலகினர் எதற்கெடுத்தாலும் உணர்ச்சிவசப்பட்டு பத்திரிகையாளர் கூட்டம் போட்டுக் கொண்டிருக்காமல், ஆரோக்கியமாக ஏதாவது செய்துவிட்டு அதைச் சொல்வது சரியாக இருக்கும் என்பதை வெளிப்படையாகவே கூறினார்.

விழாவில் முதலில் பேசிய ராதிகாவும், சரத்குமாரும் எங்க நிலைமையைப் பார்த்தீர்களா என்று கண்ணீர் வடித்தனர். ஆனால் ரஜினி பேசியதில் இருவருமே ஆடிப் போனார்கள். சிறிது நேரம் கழித்து கண்ணீர் மூடிலிருந்து கலகல மூடுக்கு தங்களை மாற்றிக் கொண்டனர்.

ரஜினி பேசும்வரை குதித்துக் கொண்டிருந்த சேரன், ரசிகர்களை தவறாக பயன்படுத்தக்கூடாது என அவர் சொன்னதைக் கேட்டதும், சத்தமில்லாமல் வெளியேறினார்.

பேசி முடித்த பிறகு திரையுலகினரைப் பார்த்து, Am I right? என்று ரஜினி கேட்க, அவர்கள் சூப்பர் தலைவா என்றதும் சிரித்தபடி வெளியேறினார் ரஜினி!.
