Thank my dear friens for all the nice posts and compliments.
Suvai, Dev, Selviem, Lakme, Aarthii, Gulabjamun and Rose 75.
On the whole all are looking for oats recipes to ice vaikiraan the mamiyaar.:rotfl::rotfl:
o.k o.k the recipes are coming soon. I had few recipes, all are missing.
Eppadiyoh Sumi has managed to capture all your hearts.
Gulabjamun, I know the type of sambar that you want.
We have " friends" there to get us the recipes.
I have been doing this sambar when ever I have guests.
I did not think of posting. It is good to have hubbers like you to request.
A silent reader has pmed me giving me a recipe that she had in her friend's house. She has asked me to rewrite the recipe properly.
I do not mind doing, but why be silent reader, it will not take a minute to post a line. We too will feel very happy.
Thanks friends, take care, if not for all of you all, I will be a loner.

The oats dosai tastes nice with any chutney. I had it with tomato thokku.
A easy recipe, to help out when we have unexpected visitors. Kugan98
OATS DOSAI
Ingredients:
1 cup rava
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup oats
1 medium onion chopped fine
1 green chillie chopped fine
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 tbs coriander leaves chopped fine
Salt to taste
Enough water
Method:
Dry roast the oats and grind to coarse powder.
In a bowl, add in the rava, all purpose flour, ground oats.
Salt, green chillies, cumin seeds, and salt.
Mix every well, add in enough water to make a batter of dosai consistency.
Add in the chopped onions and the coriander leaves. Mix well.
Heat a dosai kal, pour a laddle full of the batter.
Spread into thin dosai, pour little oil around the dosai.
Flip it over when one side is cooked. Cook the other side also.
Remove and serve with any chutney.
NOTE: Do not keep the batter long after mixing, make the dosai
Instantly, other wise the oats will become little thick. (kola-kola)
Healthy buffs can use whole wheat flour instead of all purpose flour.

I tried your method of doing aapam without the urad dal. Oh! my goodness, it turned out so perfect and as how we eat out in the shops. Thanks Kugan.
Kugan, by any chance do you know how to make moor rasam? I love this rasam, this is a village type of food. Thanks Kugan.

Any way I tried both the kurma and channa dal.

My dear friends, I think you all remember, me telling about a silent reader who sent me a recipe, and asked me to rewrite it for her.
Well it is a unique dish with vegetables and minced mutton.
I used minced soya mate to replace the minced mutton.:yessir:
Here is the recipe. Enjoy SILENT READER. Kugan98
MIXED MASALA VEGETABLES
Ingredients:
250 grms, minced soya meal maker
50 grms potatoes cubed
50 grms brinjals cubed
50 grms valakkai cubed
¼ tsp tumeric powder
1 tsp chillie powder
Little salt
2 tbs oil
2 two inch cinnamon sticks
2 big onions sliced
1 tbs ginger garlic paste
1 red tomato chopped
½ tsp garam masala powder
1 tsp chillie powder
¼ cup thick coconut milk
2 tsp lime juice
Little coriander leaves chopped
Salt to taste.
Method:
Boil the soya mate, with smashed garlic, little ginger and salt.
Boil for about 10 minutes, squeeze and wash well.
Mince the soya mate and keep aside.
Apply the tumeric, chillie and salt to the cubed vegetables.
Keep the vegetables separetly and marinate for 1 hour.
Now fry the marinated vegetables separetly and keep aside.
Add oil to a wok, add in the cinnamon sticks, add in the onions.
Saute well, add in the ginger, garlic paste, fry well.
Add in the chopped tomatoes, garam masala and chillie powder.
Stir fry well, add in the minced soya meal maker. Mix well.
Add in the ¼ cup of thick milk, salt mix well again.
Now first add in potato, stir fry well, add in the valakkai,
Stir fry again, lastly add in the fried brinjal cubes.
Mix every thing well together gently.
Sprinkle little water if too dry. Off the stove.
Add in the lime juice to taste, garnish with coriander leaves.
Remove and serve with any simple pulao or steaming rice.

All the oil is "soaked" into the Tofu, making it an Excellent Agent to Promote "cholesterol" . :lol2:I don't know about the tofu there, but here it's quite hard and taste bland, only the sauces enhance it. Or in this case, the masala. She recommended shallow fry, so cholesterol is not much of an issue.

Yet again! :sigh2:
You get cholesterol from animal fat, not vegetable fat.
Animal fat: Ghee, Milk, Cheese, Panneer, Lard, etc
And you are right Rakesh, tofu cannot absorb anything - not oil, not taste...

I normally eat in Chinese/Thai for lunch break. I often eat mix vegetables with Tofu as my main dish. It has deep fried tofu with noodles and Mix veg, and if you squeeze the tofu you get an Oily / Watery liquid comes out! Perhaps it is water, but it tastes like oil

RAVA PUTTU
Ingredients:
2 cups rava
1 cup coconut
cup sugar
1 tsp salt
Method:
Roast the rava dry in a pan. Add salt and let it cool.
Mix the coconut scrapings with the sugar.
When the rava is cool, take some water and sprinkle
Over rava occationally and rub so that it becomes
Like crumbs. Every time you sprinkle about 1 tbs of water
Otherwise it would have big lumps.
When it looks like breadcrumbs, stop the process.
Now take the puttu mould and add a little coconut mixture.
Then the rava which looks like breadcrumbs. Top it again
With coconut mixture. You can make two layers.
Close the lid of the puttu jar. Cook for about 5 minutes
After you see the steam from the upper lid holes.
Remove from stove. Unmould the puttu.
Enjoy with sweet bananas.
Note: You can even mix some coconut scrapings to the
Rava which look like breadcrumbs.

Thanks Suvai for your hilarious post.
You are right good cooks will always make some noise.:-D
I will post the pancake recipes. Maple syrup is cheap in U.S
Take care Suvai, Kugan98
Selviem, I will post the basic pancake recipe.
also a pancake using butter milk.
Maple syrup is derived from a tree.
Maple syrup is a syrup usually made from the xylem sap of sugar maple, red maple or black maple trees, although syrup can also be made from other maple species such as the Bigleaf Maple. In cold climate areas, these trees store starch in their stems and roots before the winter; the starch is then converted to sugar and rises in the sap in the spring. Maple trees can be tapped and the exuded sap collected and concentrated by heating to evaporate the water. Quebec, Canada, produces most of the world's supply of maple syrup.
Maple syrup was first collected and used by First Nations and Native Americans, and was later adopted by European settlers. It is most often eaten with waffles, pancakes, oatmeal (porridge), crumpets, and French toast. It is also used as an ingredient in baking, or as a sweetener and flavoring agent. Sucrose is the most prevalent sugar in maple syrup.
Maple syrup is graded according to the Canada, US or Vermont scales based on its density and translucency. Syrups must be at least 66 percent sugar to qualify as "maple syrup" in Canada; in the US, any syrup not made almost entirely from maple sap cannot be labeled as "maple". Maple syrup and the sugar maple tree are symbols of Canada and several US states, particularly Vermont.

EGGLESS PANCAKE
Ingredients:
1 cup all purpose flour
2 tsp baking powder
A pinch of cinnamon or cardamom powder
1 tsp sugar
1 cup full cream milk
1 tbs corn oil
1 tbs water
1 tsp vanilla essence
2 tbs butter
Method:
Combine all the dry ingredients and mix nicely.
Add in the milk, oil, water and the vanilla.
Whisk together until just combine. Do not over mix.
Set aside for about 10 minutes.
Heat a pan, when it is hot, add in the butter.
Let the butter melt, pour the melted butter into the batter.
Stir the butter into the batter.
Heat the pan again, pour ¼ cup of batter into the pan.
Let the batter spread itself. Cook until bubbles form on the surface.
Flip the pancake with a spatula and cook until golden brown.
Remove and serve with maple serve.
NOTE: Selviem, you can use whole wheat flour if you like.
You can add chopped fruits, chocolate chips, nuts and things
Into the batter to make nice pancakes for your children.
You can add 1 egg if you like.
Normally in a recipe that has 1 egg, can be replaced with
1 tbs of flaxseed powder with 3 tbs of water.

Here in Malaysia, we make coconut candy with evaporated milk, colour, rose essence.
In India it is slightly dufferent, white in colour and fresh milk, Try it friends.
COCONUT BURFI INDIA STYLE
Ingredients:
1 cup grated coconut, only white.
1 cup sugar
½ cup fresh milk
1 tbs ghee
1 tbs cashew nuts broken
¼ tsp cardamom powder
Method:
Add little ghee and fry the cashew nuts, remove.
Apply little ghee to a plate and keep aside.
Pour the sugar in a heavy bottomed pan.
Add in the fresh milk. Slowly boil the milk and the sugar.
The sugar will disslove in the milk, and will bubble up boiling.
Add in the cardamom powder, mix well.
Add in the grated coconut, and keep on stirring on medium heat.
Add in the cashew nuts and keep on stirring, till the mixture leaves the sides.
Pour the mixture on the tray and level it.
Cut into slices when cooled a bit.
You will get white coconut slices.
( I over cooked a bit) shy.

Ladies, any advice on what vege a pregnant woman should take. Appreciate it.
I know you didnt ask me, but let me share with you my experiences.
while she still can, get her to eat a lot of vege and fruits. green leafy vege is good....
chicken soup is good, to build up strength. just fry karuvappettai, kraambu and loungam in a little oil. once black, add ginger slices and chicken carcass. fill with water, bring to boil. after than set at lowest heat and let it simmer for as long as you want.
food to avoid: pineapple, soya based products, coconut water
once she is in her third month, she may find it difficult to keep anything down - dont worry so much, just feed her whatever she yearns for - maanga, asam, etc.
7th month onwards, ask her to walk as much as possible, without straining herself.
when seating down, raise feet above ground (footstool) this to avoid the feet from swelling.
after birth, her mother would know what to do

they are whole chicken stripped off all flesh.
pls dont use "chicken parts you didn't use".
and one most important thing - you should only serve her the soup, not the bones. the bones you can feed your cat.

Pls ask her to be active throughout pregnancy unless the doc advises otherwise...if she is used to walking/swimming or any other light exercise ask her to continue with it after consulting her gyne...it definitely helps reduce most physical discomforts that ppl experience during pregnancy...also, whenever possible ask her to sit on the floor with her legs folded(the traditional Indian style)... ask her to talk a lot to the kid(not loud though ;) )... and if the mother is less stressed and has a peaceful state of mind, they say the kid will be more calm after birth...listening music helps... there are songs/music especially to be heard during preg...you'll be surprised to c the kid respond to the music ur wife was listening to thru her preg...:)

A simple recipe: Natural rose milk
This is a recipe I madeup - my kid loves rose milk and I don't like giving her stuffs with artificial flavor and color. So I used rose gulkand and beetroot to make this rose milk.
Rose Gulkand is nothing but rose petals preserved in sugar...These are available easily even in small dept stores... Rose Gulkand is said to have a cooling effect on the body, reduces pittha and also has many medicinal properties... You can have the gulkand as such( 1 or 2 tsp a day)...very tasty...Don't eat too much as it is a mild laxative too... rose gulkand is commonly used in beedas...
I personally HATE rose milk and so I din't taste it... but the lil one loved it...So I guess it tastes good...;) all I can say is the flavour was superb and the color too...
 Natural rose milk
To 3/4 cup of milk add1 thin medium slice of beetroot chopped roughly and bring it to a boil. Once the desired colour is reached( baby pink is what we are looking for here), switch off flame and let it cool down.
In a mixie grind together 1 tsp(or more) sugar, 1/4 cup water and 1 heaped tsp of rose gulkand. You can add more or less depending on how flavorful the gulkand is.
Add this mixture to completely cooled milk. Mix well and then strain.
Serve chilled or at room temperature.

I'm not sure what cochineal color is... but I know we even get rose milk pwd which we just need to mix with water... all these have artifial flavour n color... as I mentioned in the recipe, I try to avoid artifial flavour n food color , esp in kids food... this recipe is for those few who might be interested in taking the natural route...
I hope u have read abt the negatives of using food color... if not, chk on naturalnews.com or do a google search... artificial food colors have been associated with vatious kinds of tumour, cancer, hyperactivity in kids etc etc...

ok, while waiting for Kugan to be back, here is a nice delicacy my sister used to make... bread bonda :slurp:
For the filling, use canned processed peas.
http://presto.my/images/detailed/5/9556041603416.jpg
simply thaalichufy peas with sliced onion and red chilly. set aside
for the outer shell, dip bread slices in cold water and squeeze out water immediately. use a grinder and grind the bread to resemble a dough. do not add water.
assembling the bread bonda is just like how you would do a mOdhakam. take a ball of the dough and make a hole carefully not stretching it to cause tears. put a spoonful of peas mixture and close to make a ball.
Deep fry, and that's it. Delicious :slurp:

Warning..!!!!
WARNING FROM POLICE
THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN
AND MEN BEWARE OF PAPER ON
THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR
VEHICLE-- NEW WAY TO DO
CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE)'
Heads up everyone! Please, keep this
circulating.. You walk across the car
park, unlock your car and get inside.
You start the engine put it into Reverse.
When you look into the rear view
mirror to back out of your space, you
notice a piece of paper stuck to the
middle of the rear window. So, you stop
and jump out of your car to remove that
paper (or whatever it is) that is
obstructing your view. When you reach
the back of your car, that is when the
carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump
into your car and take off. They
practically run you over as they speed
off in your car. And guess what,
ladies? I bet your purse is still in the
car. So now the carjacker has your car,
your home address, your money, and
your keys. Your home and your whole
identity are now compromised!
BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME
THAT IS NOW BEING USED. If you
see a piece of paper stuck to your back
window, lock your doors and just drive
away. Remove the paper later.
