The general feeling from this particular thread is that people still yearn for that 70’s,80’s and early 90’s songs of Raja despite talking great and people getting goose bumps for all his recent compositions. This thread is a true testimony to that.
It’s just that we all go gaga over any of his recent compositions,trying hard to decipher the intricacies of his composition, irrespective of the situation, no matter whether it’s a partial or a completely synth dominated composition.
The hard fact is that, what remained etched in our heart are the ones he composed earlier, and that just comes out naturally in this thread, straight from our heart, like a free flowing river
This is just a feeling after observing this particular thread for the past many months! Excuse me if I am wrong.

While saying this, I was just listening to one of his 80’s gems. This song is a beauty from the movie “Rajakumar” sung by SPB and PS.

Spoken wisely.. True - we are so nostalgic when it comes to Raaja and he has the most difficult job of having to pander to us and the current generation music listeners and balance the needs of both. Having said that , I like the synth work he has put in for ASK. It is trendy and in line with what yuvan or GVP might have done (little edges remain). However the soul of the song remains in the tune and that still is the same ol 70s- 80s raja that we remain rooted to in our nostalgia. With PS - the album requirements speak of grandeur - (however no money for Budapest here) - so he goes for the mix which is good too. The fact remains that the "idea" in the interludes are mindblowing - the counterpoints, the bass lines, the multi layered rhythms, the beat structure and tune that races to a climax in the end of malar villile are all awesome stuff which Raja has given us in bountiful quantities in the 80s and 90s. Glad to know that "ayya voodu" is still wide open..

Jaiganes, I completely agree that raja has to cater to the current generation music listeners.Infact when it comes to Synth I personally feel that some of his best works were in Malayalam! Starting from "Manasinakkare" to "Kadha Thudarunnu",raja has a series of hits and i feel that he had reserved some of his best songs for the folks there..His strike rate is still very high in Malayalam compared to any other languages .Not sure how many would agree with this? Is it probably because of people like Sathyan who can extract the best out of him or for some other reason??

By no means,I was trying to undervalue his recent works,as I have never spoken against ASK or PS in this forum.I was only observing a trend of hubbers highlighting more of his 80's composition in this particular thread.Now what does that indicate? :)

:lol: good one App. I can only tell for me, It is not that recent ones (or after early 90's) does not deserve attention, but my intention is to bring out the songs which are rarely heard and that happened to be mostly only during the period RM mentioned. Nowadays we have all sorts of information everywhere, no big deal in finding the recent songs. So that was not intentional for me. :escape::yessir:

In that case Is it not apt to change the title of this thread as "Rare songs of raja" than the current one as it has given rise to all this confusion :)

Parts of what Raj_musing and V_S have said is true for me too, for the most part so many of these songs are new to me and so it's really exciting to discover and to relive the more popular gems, when scratching the surface of yesteryear treasures you kind of take it for granted about the newly minted ones...after all they'll be easier to find...right?

Again, as you observed as a general trend, but I just expressed my intention. So just because of me, I don't think you would want to change the title. May be I need to post these songs in another thread (Rare Gems thread, which is already there I think or we should recover).
