Nice to see you back here Joe
Dear Joe,
We are delighted on seeing your post. So 2011 has commenced to us with a bang.
Thank you, keep going (on posting, not from forum).
Dear Murali Sir,
In whichever shop I enquire, I get the reply sold out, for these films. As you said, ராஜான்னா ராஜாதான்.

Plum,
While it may take some more time for Barrister and his foster son to visit Shanthi, there is a tentative plan by some Naayanmars to visit Shanthi on or around Sivarathiri time. In case you wish to watch in big screen the majestic strides of மன்னவன், you can make it.

A warm welcome to you joe sir.

Thanks for the link, Joe. That inspired me to do an addendum to my earlier Sivaji & The Sadist article. The first para here, the rest you can also click my signature:
There something about Avanthan Manithan, as an entity, that clearly hates Sivaji’s character, Ravikumar. It starts showing a very human Ravikumar, having fun, romance, singing duet and all the stuff a regular lead character in a Tamizh film would do, and it goes ahead to promptly kill his love interest. The joys in the film dies with her, and the zombie-like Sivaji goes on ravaging his own life...(more here)

Hi,
I am R. Parthasarathy, a proud fan of NT right from my school days. In fact, my Mother often says that I became NT's fan right from Saraswathi Sabatham, at which time I was hardly 4 years old.Almost all my family members, except of course, my Father (an MGR fan), all of us are proud fans of the one and only NT. I have been going through this hub for more than one year and continuously trying to join the hub, which I could do only now. In fact yesterday only I was watching the one and only Deiva Magan, especially that rollicking character Vijay. I will be proud to send my postings too in future to this forum.
Regards,
Partha
Welcome Parthasarathy! Great to know you and still great to read that all your family members are fans of NT. Post your thoughts, share your experience of watching NT films and enjoy your stay here.

Dear Mr. Murali,
Thanks very much for your immediate response. My job knew no bounds when I received a response, especially from an ardent fan like you and it matches with the joy of watching NT performs.
For the past - almost 30 years, no single day has passed without recalling/discussing/referring about NT in some forum/discussions. Such is the impact this artiste has created in me.
I wish to recall one incident. 15 years ago, some guests came to our residence to meet my father and at that time me and my mother were watching "Gnana Oli", which was being telecast in Sun TV. It was a scene where the Father (played beautifully by Mr. Gokulnath) wanted to meet Murattuppayal (our beloved NT) and NT would come to the Father's residence along with Major. After getting permission from Major (of course with a warning gesture that his pistol would take care if NT mischiefs!), NT goes to meet the ageing Father. The way he goes and sits on the floor keeping his face on the lap of the Father and weeps - silently) - I started weeping unconsciously, unaware of the guests who were at our residence. For any NT fan, I am sure, when he grows up, his preference for NT's films and scenes also keep changing - the way NT changes his expressions. When I was yound, I used to enjoy the second half of Gnana Oli and after seeing it on the above day and from then on, I have been enjoying the first half. Because, NT (also) played to his fans in the second half whereas in the first half, he purely treads the story.
He is the only Actor on earth, who always played for his fans, which gave him joy which in turn also brought to his innumerable fans. Long ago, I read a Question/Ans. session in Bhommai where he answered to a question on what is that he thinks is the ultimate achievement for which, he humbly replied by saying that he was to yet to achieve any big think but; said further that "once a person becomes my fan, then, he/she will not switch over to any other artiste."
Ulagam ullalavum endha nadiganaalum indha saadhanayai muriyadikka mudiyaadhu.

Partha
During early 80s, me and my close friend (his native was Vellore and was living with his sister by working in Chennai) used to go to lot of NT movies. (I covered 90% of his films during the period 1977 to 1985).
As most of the NT fans would agree, there are different types of NT fans belonging to various generations and my friend was a typical NT fan who watched films from 1967 (Thangai of course - as Mr. Murali Sir rightly indicated many a time, that it was late K. Balajee, who actually was responsible for taking NT to all types of audience.).
One day we went to Muralikrishna Theatre in Aminjikarai to watch Navarathri. After becoming an Adult, for the first time both of us were watching Navarathri (In fact we were saying to each other "Sivaji fan-nu sollikkiradhu avamaanam if we have not watched Navarathri as yet). We were getting restless initially as for more than 10 minutes, NT was not appearing on the screen. However, theatre was quiet calm, which was evident from the fact that most of the audience were watching atleast for the second time and knew when NT would appear! On the scene where a old well was shown, theatre went into raptures and we immediately knew that NT is going to appear. Wow! what a style man. Style-kkum ilakkanam ezhudhiya Nadigan.
During the second characterization, immediately upon NT falling at the feet of Savithri after the song, my friend abruptly started going out of theatre, saying, "Ganesan Savithri kaalila vizhardha paakkarthukkudhaan enna koottittu vandhiyaa?". While I belong to a category where I enjoy NT acting in any type of movie - from Parasakthi (benchmark performance right from the first movie, which I watched for over 10 times between 1977 and 1983 - see how many screening in Chennai alone in various theatres) to Padayappa, my friend is used to watch movies where Style / Majestic looks are predominant.
In fact, he also wanted to walk out when seeing NT in a wheel chair in Aalayamani. Only later, he started enjoying all types of NT movies.
Shall share some more thought about NT's acting from my view soon.
Regards,
Partha
Dear Sri Parthasarathy,

Thanks Parthasarathy for the share!

Mr.Joe,
Belated Happy birthday wishes.
Dear Friends,
Thank you very much for your warm welcome. I would like to send my postings in Tamil. Can you please help me.
Few thoughts about NT:-
I was doing a thesis on NT during my college days (1981 to be precise) and the topic was "Sivajiyum and avarin pala Avadharangalum". I was just detailing the various changes he made his acting style according to the periods/changes, the movie making was undergoing at various points of time. Somehow, the whole document got destroyed due to a small fire. It didn't materialise after that at all.
These days - or may be forever, Creators always talk about changing taste of people and whenever, their films bungle, they blame it on the taste of people. But, here is a Man, who always tried to create taste among people. Even though, he adapted to the changing demands, he only, was an Artiste, who tried to create a taste among audience - that people should appreciate different styles of performances of an artiste.
I was going through the first series of this thread recently and in one of the posts, Murali Sir listed out the no. of films NT acted in 1969 - it's 9! What is even intesting is the no. of Directors of the movies -almost 6 out of 9 and some of them were new to NT's camp. This is the greatness and unique feature of NT - adatability to work with any one.
What is even fascinating is the way he was getting new fans with every new film even after 16 years of his career. Every one of us know very well that his fan base grow multifold from 1967, when NT started doing different roles of different genres. Even after his death, his fan base is growing is the testimony to his talent.
Two quick mind blowing performances (others will follow):-
Kavarimaan:- All of us remember one scene - when NT sees his own wife with another. The moment he sees, the way he reacts - various emotions - shock, surprise, shame and finalling uncontrollable anger - all these feelings conveyed through his face in quick succession effortlessly but very effectively. All our friends numbering 10 - all NT Fans were seeing the film on the first day evening show at Liberty. Those days, Liberty lost its sheen and was almost screening movies after it's initial run in main theatres. Those days, main theatres will be big theatres in the centre of the city like Shanti, Crown & Bhuvaneswari. Udayam, AVM Rajeswari came only later (AVM Rajeswari in 1980 and Udayam complex in 1982). However, Liberty was jam packed. Originally, most of us were expecting Kavarimaan as NT's 200th Film - again, the Director was new doing films for younger generation - Rajini & Kamal.
As soon as this particular scene started and on the reaction of NT, the crowd went into raptures - entire crowd. Such is the spontaneity of NT's performance. No actor on earth, has or will be able to derive instant recognition for his performance, the way, NT used to derive from the crowd. Whistling, dancing and all is not spontaneous - it's created out of love and madness. But, applause - yes applause is spontaneus and it comes from various sections of an audience - fans, general public and even ladies regardles of status - rich or poor. For all other Actors (with due regards to every one, of course), it requires good screeplay, storyline, songs, photography, direction, technical effects and so on to get a very good response to make a good product. But, for NT, he can single handedly take even a non-film, to run for effectively.
Vanangamudi:- When Nambiar slaps K.A. Thangavelu that he only was the poet/singer when instantaneously NT reacts by showing his anger, shock, shame quickly by simultaneously starting the alapana and then settles for the song "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..... Paattum bharadhamum panbulla naadagamum naattukku nalla palan tharumaaaaaaaaaa......". All of us would have seen this moment. But, still, see it again and enjoy.
More to follow.......
Anbudan,
Partha
DEAR JOE SIR,
BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY WISHES TO YOU.
DEAR PARTHI SIR,

DEAR CHANDRASHEKAR SIR,
THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION.Is there any specific reason for conducting the meeting in thiruvarur?
DEAR PAMMAL SIR,
Eagerly waiting for "MADURAI RAJA" photos
Dear Friends,
When I said in the my previous posting that I was attempting on a thesis doesn't mean that I know more things on NT. It just struck me at that time because I was also a Literature student slowly, getting exposed to various kinds of Literature. I was only trying to give some thoughts on NT from what I've seen.
I sincerely feel that I am no way comparable to the various stalwarts here. Still, I want to get into the forum to share my views on NT and NT alone.
In fact, it's really amazing to know that almost all the Fans, who joined this Forum in 2005 continue to do their postings. What a fan following!
Let me also join this great Forum.
Regards,
Partha
