app is right. Mengattu Pottal is the name of a place in the heart of Madurai city adjacent to where we lived for years together. It stretches into the most expensive street of Madurai in the sense most of the Jewelery shops are situated there known as South Avani Moola Street and public meetings used to be held on Sundays. There is a park near it called Jhansi Rani Park opposite to which YMCA is housed.
For film fanatics like us in general and NT fans in particular, near to Mengattu Pottal is where we have New Cinema where Kattabomman roared, Deivamagan Kannan swore and Vijay Anand of Vasantha Maaligai romanced.

Sangili Murugan had produced many movies including Oru Kai Osai, Pandi Nattu Thangam, Enga Ooru Kaavalkaran and there was one more Karthik movie Nadodi Pattukaaran, then Kumbakarai Thangaiah and Kaadhaluku Mariyaadhai. There was also one Vijaykanth movie, the name of which I am not getting it now.

Exactly A_S. It was a 1994 Deepavali release along with Nammavar. There is a story behind it. During Thevar Magan, Kamal made use of Sangili Murugan [who happens to be a Thevar] and as everybody knew he also played the role of Kanakku Pillai. Sangili Murugan using the proximity wanted to produce a movie with Kamal in the lead and Kamal agreed it seems. He had said that once Mahanadhi finishes, he will do this. But Kamal thought of a weird combination. He wanted Balu Mahendra to direct the movie and asked SM to meet BM. Murugan is an out and out commercial producer and BM belonged to the opposite genre. After a few rounds of discussion Murugan and BM both understood that this will not work. Murugan went to Kamal and asked him whether he is willing to go for a commercial director. But Kamal by this time cited the reason that since he had already committed to doing Vijaya Vahini movie, he will not be in a position to do the film and there ended their short lived honeymoon. Sangili Murugan immediately went to Vijaykanth and got his callsheet, produced Periya Maruthu and released it along with Nammavar. After the release, he gave out an ad for his movie which proclaimed that his movie has won the Deepavali race. After this episode, it was said that since Kamal had committed a movie for BM, he initiated the production of Sathi Leelavathi under his own banner, where he played a more than a guest role and the movie came right after Nammavar and was released for 1995 Pongal [along with Batcha].

I knew KM was produced by him but wasn't sure whether he had done some prior to PNT...it's interesting to see that OKO was by him :-)
