Kalathur Kannamma was the winner of the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil – Certificate of Merit for the Third Best Feature Film in 1961, as well as the Certificate of Merit by the Government of India. Kamal Haasan's performance earned him the President's Gold Medal in 1961.
