MaappiLLaikku maaman manasu - Brilliant brilliant song but thats for the Raaja forum. But superb to watch on screen too. Particularly like the son. Dad does his bit imitating nadigar thilagam but its the son who steals the show. See the video to believe. They don't make scenes / songs like this anymore. How unimaginative our commercial cinema has become :-(

KN was picturised in a beautiful location and the whole movie was pleasing to the eyes.
I could not remember any other comedy movie picturised so nicely.
Proof for this movie being benchmark in many aspects:
- in KSY the song " hello viswanathan " was literally copied including the choreography.
- in Chandramukhi a similar scene, like the story narration between nagesh and balaiah, was tried by rajni and vadivelu.
An equal comedy movie of the same generation could be Bama Vijayam but lags behind in technical aspects like picturisation when compared to KN.

+1 on Golmaal vs Thillumullu. I think it was equa who observed this sometime - thillumullu as chennai sabha ding troupe naadaga effect. Golmaal is far more natural, and somehoe they made it believable that we were not watching a ding sabha drama. Tamil remake pArthappO dhAn idhu adippadaila oru ding sabha dramanu purinjudhu. indhila adhu theriyAdha padikku eduthirukkAnga...
Oh yes ofcourse. indha mAdhiri padangaLLa son character dummyA pOyidum but kudos to Rajini for shining in both roles. One funny moment - i have said this before - but worth recalling for new audience is
Son: unga mugathiraya kizhikkAtti, nAn ungaLukku poRakkalai
Chakravarthy: dei, un thittathai muRiyadikKAtti, nee enakku poRakkalai
Deleted shot:
Lakshmi: mothathula appanum piLlaiyum en character-ai asinga padutharadhunnu mudivu paNNittInga.
as u mentioned u did not hav a good impression on ur first watch of TM which u watched after watching gomaal... i was wonderin how matured u were in those years... adhaan andha reaction poten...
now it appears that u were not impressed with TM for many other factors when u watched it around 95s and only recently a rewatch made u realize that there is not subtlety which was present in golmaal...
enakkellaam subtlety'na ennanu innum avlovaa pureela... adhaan...
git - :).
I agree and at the same time I realized for Rajini things got worse only after Baasha. Before that it was okay I thought even when he was superstar. For example I watched thambikku endha ooru, recently. Rajini really acted well in that movie and that point in time he had taken commercial route with not much importance given to substance. Even with that restriction Rajini was still able to emote well within the commercial frame.
the thread started as thillu mullu but immediately became TM VS KN and now it has become TM vs GM. We never discuss things in isolation I think.
honestly, i had no impression or opinion during first time watch in 80s, 90s for most movies including TM and golmaal.......only director i could recognise was Maniratnam since his films looked relevant to me and visual texture was glaringly futuristic from others......when u revisit or recap those movies and fit them into opinion, value system framework that you have acquired then u get the reason for like/dislike of a movie....
Okay, I asked because seriously I can't think of any other scenes...maybe some Muthuraman in old get-up scenes, but mostly it makes you smile than laugh. I need to revisit this one. Nah...I will revisit Bale Pandiya...
tried searching for KN in youtube... varrathu ellaam serial thaan :banghead:
there is one scene involving nagesh & sachu where sachu will try to contain her laughter while she is acting out the scene...
the only one in recent times I can recall is danush trying to hide his laughter in uthama puthiran, in a scene with vivek :rotfl:
Oru search-laye kidaikkuthe ..but part part-a ..

i was searching for particular scenes joe annaa... I hate watching movies on computers... tv la paaththaalE thoongiduvEn... :rotfl2:
I actually like the scene where Nagesh teaches Sachu acting, even more than the narration scene.
The complete disconnect between him and Sachu is funny and the way he explains the love scene (appadiyE sokkiraNum avan). Then he is frustrated (thalai ezuththu), furious (aththaan :rotfl:) and goes for her throat and Sachu even laughs in the scene- and then is all sweet and coaxes her (bayandhuttiyA ). The sudden change in tone and demeanour is hilarious.
sachu's father's dialogue - oru photo-vavadhu eduthiya-ya en ponna?
during ravichandran porattam scene
Nirmala to Baliah: neenga poreengala illa naa kaekkatta avana?
Baliah to nirmala: vendaam vendaam, porattam vera vidhama poidum
KN easily thumps Bale pandiya in terms of comedy........suicidal sivaji was unfunny except for the jadhi song with MR.Radha.......Bale pandiya is greater in terms of screenplay, the permutations/combinations that 4*sivaji and 2*MR.Radha's present.......
/slight dig/
NOV, can you name the movie of below scenes
Nagesh is very forgetful person and lic agent. He meet manorama and love each other. Manorama bring Nagesh to doctor for his forgetfulness. But Manorama become wrongly patient by nagesh and doctor starts treament to Manaroma :rotfl:
BTW I have never seen such a brilliant comedy and Nagesh is incomparable may he can be compared with Gounds + Vadivalu
Agreed! KN does not make you ROTFL like TM , but it still a good movie.
KN released in 67, while TM released in 81, different periods.
Though I like Dr S.Govinderajan a lot, his Cinema songs always sounded like Bhakthi songs , for eg "Kadhalika nEramillai Kdahlipaar yaarum illai" for Muthuraman in KN
