CHENNAI: Veteran actress and classical dancer Rajasulochana, who starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam movies in the 50s and 60s, passed away in Chennai on Tuesday morning. She was 78 and had renal problems.
"Rajasulochana was known for her dancing. Every film of her had a song and dance number by her," said Randor Guy, film historian. The actor, who was from Vijayawada, debuted in Kannada film 'Gunasagari' in 1953. She went on to act in more than 250 films in all south Indian languages and shared screen space with stars like MG Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, NT Rama Rao, Nageswara Rao and Rajkumar.
"She grew up in Triplicane after her father got transferred here. She learnt Bharatanatyam from Lalithamma and K N Dhandayuthapani Pillai and Kuchipudi from Vempati Chinna Satyam. Her dancing skills led her to movies," said Guy.
One of the first movies that got her noticed in the Tamil industry was 'Pennarasi'. "This had several song and dance sequences that were shot in Coimbatore. She became very popular," said Guy. But what gave her stardom was her role in 'Thai Pirandhal Vazhi Pirakkum' (1958), directed by AK Velan. The songs became instant hits and Rajasulochana went on to act in more movies.
"She ruled the roost for a while along with fellow actor Devika. She was known for her portrayal of sophisticated, well-bred women," said actor and historian Mohan Raman. At a recent interaction at a film club, the veteran said her primary interest remained dance, said Raman.
Rajasulochana set up a dance school, which is sustained by her disciples. "She was more of a teacher there. Also, she didn't act after retiring from the movie industry more than 20 years ago. She was more into social work these days," said Krishna, her son-in-law. Friends like Randor Guy said that she remained her warm, cheerful self despite health problems.
Rajasulochana is survived by her son Shyam Sundar and daughters Sree and Devi. The cremation will be held at the Besant Nagar crematorium at 1.30pm on March 6.
It's really shocking. Though she is aged she was very energetic when attended our NTFANS prog in July 2012.
May her soul rest in peace.
நமது திரைப்படத் திறனைய்வு அமைப்பின் சார்பில் கடந்த ஜூலை 2012ல் படித்தால் மட்டும் போதுமா திரைப்படம் திரையிடப் பட்டபோது அவர்கள் கலந்து கொண்டு நடிகர் திலகத்துடனான கால கட்டத்தில் தங்கள் தொழிலில் அவர் எவ்வளவு சொல்லிக் கொடுத்தார் என்பதை மிகவும் சிலாகித்துக் கூறியது இன்னும் பசுமையாக நினைவில் உள்ளது.
அவருடைய குடும்பத்தாருக்கு நம்முடைய இரங்கலைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்வதோடு இந்த இழப்பைத் தாங்கும் வலியமையை இறைவன் தரவேண்டும், அவரது ஆன்மா சாந்தியடைய வேண்டும் எனவும் வேண்டுகிறோம்.

படத்தின் உயிர்நாடிகள் நடிகர் திலகம், வாணிஸ்ரீ(என்ன ஒரு இணைவு,இயைவு, ரசாயனம்),கண்ணதாசன்,மாமா மகாதேவன், பாலமுருகன்,வின்சென்ட், பிரகாஷ்ராவ், எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் மையமான அரேகபூடி கௌசல்யா தேவியின் கதை.
ஒரு இளைய நண்பர்கள் குழுமத்துடன், 2000 இல் ,இந்த படம் பார்த்து கொண்டிருந்தேன் இந்தோனேசியாவில். அப்போது, ஒரு நண்பர் ,சிவாஜி 25 வயதில் படு அழகாய் இருந்திருக்கிறார் என்றார்.நான் சொன்னேன் இந்த படம் வரும் போது அவரின் வயது 44 என்று.நாற்காலியில் இருந்து விழும் அளவு அதிர்ந்த அவரின் மோவாய் தரையை தொட்டது. வாணி ஸ்ரீ பற்றி ஒரு நண்பர் அடித்த comment .சிம்ரன் எல்லாம் இவளிடம் பிச்சை வாங்கவும் தகுதியில்லை.படம் முழுவதும் நிரவியுள்ள உயிர் துடிப்பான காட்சிகள்.வசனங்கள்,பாடல்கள் எதை சொல்ல எதை விட.??!!

There is an article in recent issue of Kumudam about Mr Cho has
mentioned about his entry to fllmworld and how our NT had helped
him. If someone have the facility it can be uploaded here for the benefit

we cant praise Balamurugan with full heart, because the same BM wrote the '........' dialogues for Nagesh, VKR, Ramaprabha portion.
He slipped down from his dignity in comedy portion.
When Digitalizing and converting to Cinemescope, if the movie is a color + biramaandam.... it will be good.
In this regard Karnan and Vasandha Maaligai are ok.
But Pasamalar..?. it is just a family story with emotional sentiments and also a black & white. Howfar it will get matirialized is a question.
Why not they try Veerapandiya Kattabomman for digitalization and release it after six months, that means after VM get a good success....?.
dear adiram sir, whenever we think of NT the popping up film in our mind and heart will be Pasamalar though it is a black and white celluloid classic. It cannot be underrated for a rerelease in an improvised format though not color addition.films like Pasamalar, Pavamannippu, Paagappirivinai, Paalum Pazhamum, Parasakthi, Paarthaal Pasi
theerum, vietnaam veedu Pattikkada Pattanama, Motor Sundaram Pillai, Thookuthooki, deiva Magan.... all deserve rereleases in their original format as they stand immortal monuments our acting God NT. though not colored they are also equally enjoyable in a rerelease. VM is drastically different from Karnanin content and acting.Sameway Pudhiya Paravai and VPKB.Only anguish is our NT films should not be competitors wit each other!

I too accept your point. Whenever we think about NT films, Pasamalar will come in first five places.
But what I am telling is, for re-releasing of Pasamalar, verygood brand new prints are enough, and no need digitalization and cinemascope.
I whole heatedly accpet your view that, NT movies should not clash each other even in re-release.
We have enough sad experiences in the past.
Now, Vasandha Maaligai being re-released throghout Tamilnadu, they should not think about re-release of any other NT movies for next six moths.

dear ragulram sir. Sure thillana and uththamaputhiran too I missed to quote. Thillana Mohanambal is a jewel on our NT's crown and Uththamaputhiran remains the diamond in the jewel. But what happened to thiruvilayadal, another milestone of our acting God, may also happen to thillana or navarathiri or saraswathi sabatham as it is owned by the same producer. Uththamapuththiran deserves a color transformation and proper digitization since it its a life-time pleasure to enjoy our NT in his inimitable dual role. However, we only can give some selfish suggestions to enjoy our NTs acting dimensions, but the pains will be taken by the producers only to spend and recover the cost!
Uthama Puthiran - can be converted in to colour to see the style of Vikraman.
Who will take the initiative is the million dollor question.
