With SHANGAR Factor
A number of questions have been asked about the Box Office Collection of Nanban - whether Nanban has beaten Enthiran? We looked at multiplex collections for 3 major territories which had a number of surprising observations. Nanban is far behind in terms of beating Enthiran even in A centers. But, it is performing in par with Mankatha and 7aum Arivu in Tamil Nadu.
Note: As we go through ignore the first partial week collections due to varying number of shows for each of the movies. Week 2 has the full week collection with almost exact number of shows for all the movies which makes the comparison fair and square.
A. Coimbatore
________________________________________
Nanban did marginally better than 7aum Arivu and Mankatha. Probably because of music release and a number of local starcast including Sathyan and Sathyaraj hailing from Coimbatore.
B. Chennai
________________________________________
Mankatha had collected 2 Lakhs more than Nanban in the multiplex center for almost exact number of shows. The trend is consistent across PVR and other A centers as well. Nanban performed in comparative terms as Mankatha and 7aum Arivu.
C. Bangalore
________________________________________
Nanban fared below average in Bangalore (slightly better than Velayudham). Multiplex managers attributed to two reasons -- 1. people who had watched 3 Idiots did not want to watch Nanban 2. Another big release Businessman attracted a lot of metro audience away from Nanban.
Conclusion
________________________________________
Overall, Nanban is making good collections in par with Mankatha and 7aum Arivu. There are no signs anywhere to show that the collections have touched Enthiran as claimed by people associated with the movie. All the recent movies took a huge nose-dive during the 3rd weekend. It will be interesting to see whether Nanban can sustain the collections as the family audience pour in.
