Thanks Vinod for all the details. Looks like a big and dedicated effort from you. Thanks for the original sample, will listen in the evening. Keep it going!
 Well said! I can imagine that.

SKV... I will do my best to list them..As far as the upsampling goes, you are correct that the CD format is 16/44.1. By upsampling it to 24/88 khz( its double the sampling rate), it is not going to extract anything new. What you hear is what you get. The big difference is that the DSP in some of the DAC's do perform better at higher sample rates. As a result, the song will be transparent (I guess separation of instruments...?) in some DAC's. Again, it depends on the DAC. If the signal source is not a good one, then the output will be terrible (all the abnormal sounds can be heard obviously). Since I play them though a Software Player, this Player has the ability to play the song in INTEGER/DIRECT mode. This is nothing but when the CPU does the calculation it will perform the calculation in INTEGER mode instead of FLOAT mode (again I do not have much knowledge in this area). As a result, less CPU resources are used which results in the sound quality being DAY (song played in ITEGER mode) and NIGHT (original CD version) difference. Again not all DAC's are INTEGER/DIRECT mode capable. You need a player which supports INTEGER/DIRECT mode and you need a DAC which can handle INTEGER mode. The quality of such songs are way better than the original ACD. I hope I'm not confusing people here... The sample from Selvi was recorded with that mode enabled. Since 44.1 * 2 = 88.2 (its multiples of 2) and so, the CPU takes the 44.1 upsamples tto 24/88.2 and feeds the DAC (since its upsample of 2, there is less CPU processing and so the sound quality is exceptional). The DAC sets its sample rate to match the sample rate sent by the MAC which then perform its Digital-to-Analog-Conversion and feeds the PREAMP and then to AMP and the SPEAKER's. *Now, this is for the CD... just think about the Vinyl... Since it has the spectrum range beyond the CD, people tend to record them in DSD/DXD mode (that is 64 times the 44.1khz). This way, you preserve the entire spectrum of Vinyl as is. Several Record Labels do preserve them in this format which can then be down samples to what ever format you need. If you compare the SELVI sample of both MP3 and the AIFF format, it will be difficult to figure out the difference with a normal computer headphones. You would need a good quality one to figure out the difference. *I hope I have not bored people on this topic...*
Vinod
Vinodkumar, :notworthy: Superb, man! Onnum theriyaathunnu sollittE ivLO solreengaLe  I understand it as "If the source taken, ACD, is of higher quality, then even if the DSP/DAC 'expands' the sound, it only leads in much superios qualit becos there is good separation of instruments, almost all sounds are slightly doubled in time slice, so that you hear superior quality. Since the system is doubling the existing source, if you pass a low quality audio, this process will make the resulting sound, much worser"
Thanks! Let us discuss this later once more, about the software and H/W you are using! :)
Hi SKV.. My apologies for the delay..lt been a very busy weekend for me. :) Yes... you are correct with respect to quality. The DAC is the hardware part and the DSP is a plugin which is the software part which uses the DAC to process signal. I use MAC for audio and the hardware that I use is Metric Halo LIO DAC (which runs on MAC) and PureMusic player. I'm in the process of getting a DAC which can record in DSD/DXD. This also requires a software which can handle DSD/DXD. I will upload some songs which has good recording in the coming days..

happened to hear kuyilukkoru niram irukku song from Solla thudikkuthu manasu on some random channel...... it was a lovely song and infact all the songs from this movie were so awesome, solla thudikkuthu manasu, thenmozhi (a very underrated song i think, neverthless a sweet song), this song and the evergreen melody poove sempoove........ pity that this film is a utter waste of a movie....... one another movie which doesnt deserve a bit of the sweet songs that has been composed. AFAIK in TFM, IR has the longest list of such type of albums in his repertoire (awesome songs for gruesome movies)
Thanks subras for highlighting kuyilukkoru niram irukku. As K_G always tells, too much dependency on his music killed the creativity of many directors. They had an easy route to success without even putting their talent in front. We had a huge benefit atleast in terms of music, otherwise we would not be talking about 80s/90s anymore.
I have uploaded more SRR bgm at soundcoud... Some of them, you might be hearing it for the first time. I hope you all enjoy... http://soundcloud.com/raja4ever/tracks

The original NEPV song from NN is so great that even a low-res video like this (not the Karthik-Jiji one but a combination of many others - Jiva / Surya / Vijay) can get 100K hits just like that:
(Ofcourse, I can't help restate this fact : THE SECOND INTERLUDE IS ONE OF THE BEST I'VE EVER HEARD AS MUSIC, NOT JUST IFM):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25kOe...feature=fvwrel
OK, this is from the original "ninaivellAm nithyA" (the song is not NEPV but "thOLin mElE" - the IR-Afro special with SPB!)
I know baroque (Vinatha thangai) is a big fan of Karthik, so this for you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NMt3Vo0pvQ
Actually, even part 2 of NN is not boring, Sridhar has done good so far....(and check out the fantastic IR BGM for the Karthik-Gemini puththiri scenes):

:-D yeah... bgm is beautiful even in the first clip before the song!
Actor Karthik & Late actor Sanjeev Kumar, both are immensely likeable!
endearing & luminous are their presence ! :swinghead:
One is boyish & cute, Other is dashing & refined!
they both give INTIMATE FEELING, I am fond of them! :)

Here are some of the CD versions (UdhayaGeetham, Geethanjali and JappanilKalyanaRaman)... Except for the UdhayaGeetham, the rest of them sounds very digital to me. Still, its listenable...the benefit of buying original ACD. http://soundcloud.com/raja4ever/udha...aenethenpaandi
Was playing the sure shot 'put the baby to sleep' song 'ThuLLith thirindhadhoru kaalam' from endrum anbudan.
This is the song we have heard zillion times and seen every corner of it - or thats how I had assumed.
While slipping into a trance in the second interlude and coming out of it when SPB started 'thuLLum alai ena' - I sat up
whoa - never heard this before.. in the sense that instead of a bass guitar playing out in the background slowly chumming
a sub sonic melody - here there was an entire string section(cellos? violins?) playing so mildly along with SPB as he sang the entire song a parallel melody. I thought I must be hallucinating and played it one more time and this time unmistakably so - I can catch the violins playing ever so softly along with SPB's haunting vocals creating a soothing effect... What all goes on to make a song 'Raaja song' - one can only
wonder and wonder...

Watched NN today (thanks to a youtube link tamilarasan posted in the TF section)...
While I skipped vachukkavA, unnaiththAnE & muththAdudhE (sittukku sellachchittukku difficult to skip), for some reason I continued watching the "most-skip-worthy" song of the movie, 'namma modhalALi nalla modhalALi'...
It could be because of the impressive scene prior (of breaking the factory strike with an innovative idea) that I got carried away immersed in thoughts and forgot to do the "skip" for this song.
Interestingly, now I've revisited the song on youtube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FnqBLQ8NaY
Though neither the song nor the picturization is anything unique (rAsA has done tons of such in his career), I can't help but admire the ENERGY LEVELS of the female dancers
enna oru enthu & dedication to their profession!
I've said this here before - this song is extremely catchy! When I watched this movie as a kid (when I was too young to understand/appreciate music/Raaja), this was the song that caught my attention! And it has aged decently well I must say. Great energy levels this one's got.
Well...Well.. Well.. I have recently acquired a very rare "Meenakshi Sthothram" album of Raaja.. I was on the hunt for close to 10 years and only now I was lucky to acquire it. I remember talking to Agilan a while ago where in he mentioned that he doesn't have the original Master tape of this album. Not sure if he was able to find the master tape... I'm eagerly waiting for its arrival. Long time ago, I used to call Oriental Records frequently to release this album... :)
the one you are getting is vinyl, ok!
He is asking about the original source!
If they don't have master tape(vinyl etc...) source, how can they release?
so, if they don't have original ilayaraja albums, AGI takes exiting available mp3s & remaster them, release them, is it?
Because ilayaraja gave rights to agi, all agi has to do is shop at the streets of purasawakkam,t.nagar, get ilayaraja mp3s , remaster sell in their website because there are no original source available!
Agi can illegally buy ilayaraja mp3s for their business according to ilayaraja!:-D seri....

Well.. My conversation with him was long time ago. I suppose you could shoot an email to Mr. Agilan and ask him the same? I do not think nor did I suggest that the samples are from MP3. I will take that as a funny comment.
mmm...
I see Landmark carries the album you are mentioning!

First time listen and SPB 'S SHOW ALL THE WAY.
Raja's audacity to go for a very carnatic PanthuvarALi/Purvikalyani for such a fun riot is something he holds a patent ..
Listen to the "pattu pudavai" bit , but why so less a bit for a beauty of this kind yaa?
http://www.thiraipaadal.com/tpplayer...0'&lang=en
from "En purushan thaan enakku mattum thaan"
I think manadhil...susheela's solo & an erotic ilayaraja composition was heard those days.
Raja has adhered to RAGHUVARA NANNU.... Thyagaraja's melodic improvisations unleashed Bala's playful, teasing vocal & lyrics reflects the theme!
For your weekend listening... I have loaded some more samples from Guru (Malayalam), Ejjamaan & IdhuNammaBhoomi. I hope you like it...
