Fans burst crackers and do ‘milk abishekam’

Decades have passed by but the indelible memories of the character describing the details of an alcoholic, the script story, and above all the popular numbers especially Yarukkaga ? have yet been gripping the hearts and souls of millions of fans of thespian Sivaji Ganesan.
The film Vasantha Maligai, released decades ago, was one of the biggest blockbusters of late Sivaji Ganesan and had been a revolution in the history of Tamil cinema, marking a turning point in the love-story based scripts and reflecting the pulse of the youth of those years. The fact that the film was a time-tested entertainment was evident from the fanfare with which the fans celebrated the release of Vasantha Maligai in the city on Friday. They expressed their jubilation in different forms — by bursting crackers, installing giant size cutouts, and banners and offering “milk abhishekam” to the same, presenting “aarathi” by lighting camphor, distributing sweets, butter milk to the viewers, and so on. This is yet another success in the release of the thespian’s films,
Earlier, it was Karnan and a similar effort went down with Sivaji fans.
The re-release of Sivaji Ganesan’s Karnan brought much delight to not only the die hard fans of the thespian. Karnan proved to the Tamil film industry that Sivaji films can pull in the crowds just like the old times. Following its success, Vasantha Maligai , starring Vanisri, Nagesh, K. Balaji, Sukumari, apart from “Nadigar Thilakam”, has been digitally restored in cinemascope.
M. Srinivasan, secretary of the Tiruchi Mavatta Sivaji Manram, said that this film showcased the late actor’s ebullience to the present generation.
N. Shanmugam, president of the Manram; T. Srinivasan, vice-president of the All India Sivaji Manram; S. Annadurai, district president of the Tiruchi District Sivaji Makkal Nala Iyakkam; R.C. Raja of the Tiruchi district Prabhu and Vikram Prabhu Fans Association, and Mukunthan of Tiruchi District Samooga Nala Peravai, participated in the celebrations.
