I think most of us (Vijay fans) have accepted that reviews and WOM for other movie were better. However; despite getting average reviews, Jilla is sustaining..thanks only to Vijay's star power. We all know how tough it is to survive the first weekend if the movie doesn't get good reviews and on top has to compete with another movie which has better reviews.
Do you know the update on salem and madurai screen update?
This is precisely the point. Content wise and critical reception wise Jilla might have just lagged behind it's competitor. Content is the winner any day. But Vijay fans should only be happy here for Jilla scoring a commercial hit despite this. The more someone ridicules the film the more they are giving patronage to Vijay's star power. A movie falls into white (success) and black (failure) categories mostly through content. But it is the star power which pushes movies from the black zone to the grey area (average/above average). And I believe Jilla has successfully proved it.
