Dear Mr. Raghavendiran,
It's from "Naan Petra Selvam". There will be a drama in the film where the confrontation between Lord Siva and Poet and Nakkirar will take place and both the roles were enacted by NT. The movie was written by APN and also co-produced by him. Later, he fine tuned it and re-shot again in "Thiruvilaiyaadal". You and most of the Fans will be aware. For new generation, this will be a news.

I bought Gurudatchanai in Moser Bear 3 in 1 last year but watched only Dr. Siva and Irumalargal . But inspired by other veterans like Ragavenderan, Vasudevan , Pammalar and others, I intended to watch lesser known movies of NT
Gurudatchanai is not exactly well-known among NT’s films. This, despite It releasing just after Thillana Mohanambal with same tteam like AP Nagarajan as director, Padmini , , Balaiyah, Sarangabani (the old actor, TR Ramachandran, Manorama, Balaji, Thangavelu ,Senthamarai, Major Sudararajan, Ramaprabha, MN Nambiyar etc.
KV Mahadevan as composer and co-stars like Jayalalitha, (Padmini and JJ in one film), and character actors like
In my opinion, this is a very beautiful film. NT plays a Muradan illiterate, whose attributes are recognised and appreciated by very few. His rough approach is frown upon by what is made up of mostly ungrateful villagers.Manorama, Thangavelu, Sarangabani are NT friends from different religion living in harmony- Unity in Diversity, friends of NT
NT saves JJ in a fight and as usual JJ starts loving NT which irks many especially Ramaprabha, TR Ramachandran who are NT relatives & detractors. JJ is chased out by her dad. Senthamarai. NT finds her in his own house one day, and is not able to send her off. Though under his roof, he behaves like a gentleman.
Then, one day, a teacher comes to the village ( Padmini), along with her father (Major). NT helps them and falls in the good books of Major & Padmini.
Ramaprabha is also a school teacher, though teacher by profession both Padmini & Ramaprabha are contrasting personalities
NT later sees the value of education and after a series of incident manages to convince Padmini to teach him to read and write. Of course, the villagers helmed by Ramaprabha, TR Ramachandran, MN Nambiyar cooks stories about NT & Padmini having a affair whereas it is only a Student teacher relationship.
Balaji is the fiancée for Padmini, Sahasranamam is education officer who is also a future father in law for Padmini.
What next must be watched in silver screen
NT's performance is flawless. His yearning for education looks and feels real.He dons only single costume of a baniyan , Veshti and a belt . He resembles a typical villager. The scenes where he helps Padmini are so real. He even falls at her feet when she offers to teach him ( No other hero would do it). Character , Devotion to work in a single word is the answer. Padmini is beautiful and perfect as a virtuous teacher. Jayalalitha is cute and unlike what you expect, plays rather and understanding lover, though her role is extended appearance. The rest of the cast including Thangavelu as Bai showing bioscope is my favorite .
It was nice of AP Nagarajan to make a deviation from his usual Mythological film
Don’t know the reason of this great movie not getting required success

Dear Mr. Ragulram,
Nice posting about "Gurudhatshanai". Though almost entire Team of Thillana Moganambal is repeated here, the music is not by KVM but; by Pugazhenthi, who was long time Associate of KVM. This goes to show how NT gave opportunities to aspiring Artistes.
In my opinion, the main reasons for the debacle of this movie is screenplay and too many movies in one year. In fact six of NT Movies were released in 1969 in the first 8 months, competing with one another.

Dear Mr. Murali,
Thanks for your appreciation. I wrote the analysis of "Engae Nimmadhi" before I saw yours in "Padalgal Palavidham" - written almost 7 years back. The flow and the passion with which you wrote the article is remarkable. The various events leading to this song were written with lot of statistics in your characteristic touches and way of writing.
Even though I cannot match you in terms of flow and statistics, I attempted and is trying to attempt this series differently, from my angle. I concentrate only on NT's acting and touches/nuances.
Your write-up on "Thyagam release events" as usual, had its passion of "Murali" stamped! Great. It's not only about the passion but also the enthusiasm and ownership when it comes to sharing of NT and his films that makes it more interesting.
Thanks once again.

R. Parthasarathy
