- Plot : 3 bachelors stay together. One boy comes there as a servant. Actually it is a girl. One of them realizes it and also falls in love.
More than the plot the screenplay/execution is the highlight.
- Remake of Malayalam super hit "Ammayane Satyam" (translation - tai mel aanai)
- Director Balachandra Menon
- Heroine oriented subject
- Initially Kamal asked Menon to keep the same screen play
- Nadigar Tilakam was supposed to do a main role (in Malayalm done by the director himself)
- Immediately after it got shelved, Kamal started Avvai Shanmukhi
- Irony is that in 'Kanden Seetaye" heroine is disguised as a man/boy whereas in AS it is the hero !!
The above are facts

Now the rumors : (according to Malayalam industry version)
- After sometime Kamal wanted change in script and more screentime for him
- Menon did not agree and it got shelved
(similar rumors for Guna, Anpe Sivam where the first choices were Malayalam directors)

I felt the same.. Though I had seen some stills in Malayalam movie magazines, I do not remember this one...
I heard only 10-15 days of shoots were over. (For Menon's speed that should have covered 50%)

Kamal started shooting for Ammayane Sathyam when rumours about Kamal - Shankar rift came and Arjun was to take up lead role in Indian. So, i started hating this Balachandra Menon guy just for that.

Shooting resumed immediately after completion of Indian shooting and when it was shelved, Avvai Shanmukhi was announced and started off in rapid pace.

One can notice that Nagesh, who played main villian, SPB who played the police inspector instead of Sivaji, Ramesh Aravind and Nasser, the 2 friends ......... all have found some role or or the other in Avvai Shanmukhi ...... especially ramesh aravind and SPB were intentional insertions.

soon after singaravelan, gangai amaran was supposed to direct a movie with kamal. was that athiveera pandian ?

Yes! His jodi was fixed as Aiswarya Lakshmi. Good that AVPandian stopped! That is also one of the reason why GA got far away with kamal. He even later once said that kamal stole his story and took Devar Magan!
