Kamal is old school.
In the Jaya tv Kamalahasyam program he even said atrociously conservative things like puN-paduththAdha comedy, non-vulgar comedy etc. I don't think he regards Gounder as much.

Yes! And its not that he hates gounder, vadivel type comedies. He keeps them below Nagesh thats all. Gounder current la irunthappo sila samayam paaraatti solli irukkaar. Same applies to vadivel too.

And it seems he has same regard(similar to vadivs/gounds) on vivek too. That was evident in his recent Thanthi TV interview

நகைச்சுவை செய்யும் போது மற்றவர்களை புண் படுத்தாமல் செய்தால் தான் அது நகைச்சுவை என்றும், காமெடி-யில் காம நெடி இருக்கக்கூடாது என்றும் அந்த நிகழ்ச்சியில் சொன்னதாக ஞாபகம்... இது கவுண்டருக்கு பொருந்தாது... அதனால் தான் கமல் தனது படங்களில் நகைச்சுவைப் பகுதியையும் தானே செய்ய வேண்டி இருக்கிறது.. இந்தியன் படத்தில் கவுண்டருடன் நடித்தது ஷங்கருக்காக ஒத்துக்கொண்டது போலத்தான் தோன்றுகிறது...

Whether Kamal has high regards for Gounder and Vivek or not, it is not going to change people's opinion about their liking to these artist. It just underlines Kamal's preference and nothing else. BTW first time I am hearing from Kamal about his high regards to Guru Dutt. Guru Dutt is a tremendous talent which was never utilized completely and in that regard Kamal is lucky because he has had a long stay in Cinema. I hope he utilizes his talent and goes back to his full caliber.
