Review of Andaman Kaithi from The New York Times
Review Summary
Tamil director V. Krishnan spins this melodrama about Indian independence and Partition based on an acclaimed pay by K. S. Krishnamurthy. The film opens with former labor organizer Nataraj (M. G. Ramachandran) telling his fellow cellmates how his family suffered at the hands his dark-hearted uncle Ponnambalam (K. Sarangapani), who sold out his country to help the British. This villain bilked his mother of her savings, killed his father, and forced her sister Leela (P. K. Sarawathi) into marriage. Following Partition, in which the harried family was forced to flee from Karachi to Madras, Nataraj hunts down and kills his uncle, landing him in jail. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi
